Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I finally got a new laptop with a lone USB 3.0 port. I'm now looking at getting a USB 3.0 hub with a power adapter so I can use both of my USB 3.0 hard drives at faster speeds. I've read lots of horror stories where some hubs either don't come with power adapters -- and as a consequence the portable drives don't work with them properly -- or they are designed poorly which results in USB 2.0 speeds. Or, the hard drives keep getting disconnected. Do your readers have any suggestions or experience using USB 3.0 hubs? Thanks!"
This would work for my mother, _if_ she can get AT&T reception and the monthly cost is not too high.
We got my in-laws a frame we can email to, that hooks into their wireless network. Works great for them, and there is no monthly charge.
The kids and grandkids all over the country can email them photos.
We held off buying a frame for them until we found one with no monthly fees. I know companies like them, but we are getting killed with monthly fees. $10 or $15 may not seem like much, but stick a score of them in addition to cable, phone, internet, (and thing we need like water) and it really adds up.
My Mom has no wi-fi, so this frame could work. Again only if if it is not going to be hundreds of dollars more every few years.
@rsnyder6 What photo frame did you settle on? We have been looking for one that we can give my inlaws. I have given up trying to get them to download pictures and update the USB stick I gave them for the photo frame we bought them. Something that can update via Wifi would make things easier.
@miketuck
I got them a SmartParts ( smartpartsproducts.com ) frame. The photos display nice enough (seem equal to our Kodak), and it was pretty easy to set up.
I think the only thing is they have to look for new photos now and then. I don't believe there is a notification mechanism. Other than that, there is not much to do.
