Looks like Windows 7 is off to a much stronger start than Windows Vista, with the NPD Group claiming the first few days of sales saw a 234% increase over Vista's start. Part of that can be attributed to special deals and
low-cost pre-sales -- total revenue was only 82% higher -- but it's hard to deny people are stoked for Windows 7. Interestingly, the PC hardware growth was actually stronger for Vista than 7 (48% year over year compared to 68% year over year), but there are enough variables at play there to make sure Microsoft won't lose sleep over it. In fact, 7's biggest threat seems to be Microsoft's other products, since Windows 7 PC sales were up against 20% of PC sales being comprised of Vista and XP computers, compared to the 6% of non-Vista PCs sold during that launch.
I own 3 vista os laptops between 1-2 years old. I'm not spending a dime on this Not worth a dime. Am I alone here??
hahhaha, you are alone. Even the mac fanbois think its a good OS.
p.s. would you pay $50 if you could speed up your computer 20%?
Joseph:
Um, he is a mac fanboy.
Or rather, a mac fanboy strawman.
Who manufctures better computers apple or Microsoft. ?exactly.
Until the day ms decides to manufacture a computer , there is no comparison. Apple is on a whole new level. Agree??
MS makes Xbox 360. Until the day Apple decides to make a gaming console, there is no comparison. MS is on a whole new level. Agree? Shithead
@nyukeit
Apples hardware runs OS X, Xbox 360 runs windows 7. wait, it doesn't? Nice try. How can you compare and entire hardware spread with a gaming system? Laptops in 3 flavors, desktops in 3 flavors, Set top streaming devices, routers, etc... They even invented the apple store and now even microsoft has apple stores.
oh yeah and 50% fail rate on 360 hardware.
@Joseph
My point was that you cannot compare the two companies. One is a software maker and the other is an electronics company. My reply was sarcastic. You cannot say apple is better because it makes hardware. That makes no sense. And MS does not have apple stores, it has microsoft stores. Sure apple has all that you mentioned, its a bigger company in its own forte, MS is a bigger company in its own.
I am not any fanboy of either MS or Apple, but absurd comments influenced by fanboism are no brainers!
@ word
no, why would microsoft need to manufacture any of their computers, they're already making millions on deals with manufacturers now, plus it gives you a much much larger variety. if you dont like Acer, you can go buy a HP, if you dont like HP you can buy a Dell. if you dont like Mac, you have no other options. Plus with windows being on different branded computers, there is competition between them, wich means consumers will come across some great deals, unlike macs witch are never a good deal.
so no, i don't agree.
If you dont like mac, buy a psystar. AMIRIGHT???!?!!
You offer preorders at 1/3 the price and get big sales at the beginning but not as much profit. Shocking.
Thats how Microsoft holds and maintains is dominant market share.Give the initial copies away at a low price so it becomes it becomes universally adopted and rely on volume to generate profits.Both the consumers and the company win this way.
This is unlike the fruit company which sells relatively a very small amount of products at exorbitant prices to make huge profits and yet their fanbois feel proud about it without realizing that they are ones being fleeced for the fruit company's gains.
i bought win7 for my vmware fusion 3 on my macbook pro. I never bought vista, although i beta tested it and was not happy. I ran XP.
IMO this is well justified and is not about the marketing blitz they have been doing, although it will be attributed to their marketing. As an IT guy I have recommended, purchased and installed Windows 7, this is the polar opposite of my experience with vista. I think hardware recs alone were it's demise. Win 7 is "snappy" and intuitive. I love it.
--apple fanboi, IT guy and Designer.
Its amazing how hard mac fans try to defend their purchase when in fact the hate the day they switched from Windows to OSX. No more fiddling around with new components, no more downloading millions of free apps, no more trying to fix that quirky driver. They lost what they used to love, real interaction with the PC. Instead they are now using an expensive bland silver or white box that might work well but is missing personality.
Windows 7 is in fact better than Vista. But the fact is that it was hard to make a worse OS than Vista. And i got Vista unwillingly cause MS force manufacturers to install Vista, so if want an OS that actually works, i have to pay again...
Don't get me wrong... If you have XP you should go for W7. But if you have Vista, W7 should be free!!!
I didn't want Vista, but i'm stuck with it, how is that good?
I'm confused. I seem to remember mac ads saying that people were switching to macs instead of upgrading to 7. This makes no sense. I can't believe they'd just lie about something like that. Wait, does this mean that owning a specific brand of computer doesn't make me cool? Does this mean I have to think for myself?
That's funny :)
Remember the same comparison between Vista/XP? Vista sales for the 1st week were 59% lower than XP sales for the 1st week.
Now some magic.... ummm.... mathematics :)
Vista = XP - 59% = XP * 0.41
W7 = Vista + 234% = Vista * 3.34
That means W7 = (XP * 0.41) * 3.34 = XP * 1.37 = XP + 37%
Cool, eh? Only 37% over XP sales 8 years ago for the same period of time. Now imagine the growth of computerized audience all over the world and answer the question "what is this 37% increase: success or not really?" :)
