Xbox 360 802.11n adapter rebirths on Costco site, ships November 10th for $88
You can't keep a phoenix down and this Xbox 360 wireless n adapter seems to be a bird of similar feather. After discretely showing up on US retail sites and subsequently managing to drop off into internet obscurity, the 802.11n-compliant peripheral has returned to the scene via Costco's site, this time with a November 10th shipping date and a more attractive than before $88 price tag. With only five days until the 10th, will this finally be the price and date that stick? Who knows -- but at least this time we won't have to wait long to find out.

Let me introduce you to "Low Ranked"
neat
So how exactly do you plan on using that with your 360?
Awersome!!!
Please tell me you console kiddies don't game over wireless. :)
What would you use it for? Do you do large file transfers to or from your console?
@xcrunk CRAM IT IN THE CD DRIVE. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK, USE YOUR DRIMMEL TO GET IT IN THE USB SLOT!
@chispito you use it so you can have your router run in 'n' and your network doesn't have to be slow as molasses to be x360 compatible.
But at this price there are probably better ways.
How are people saying this is exp? What are you all poor? It's sub $100 get over it the older was more exp. So they've fully upgraded the device made it better and released it cheaper and people still whine. Don't want don't buy it, buy the older "G" one or a 3rd party dodgy version with no support and no 100% compatibility whenever a firmware update may come. Good luck with that.
@onelove,
even the ones using ethernet use wireless controllers, obviously REAL GAMERS use wired mice,
@ethos
You can buy a 'n' router for half that, that's why I call it expensive.
It's not about having the money, it's about being taken for a ride and not liking it.
HOLY CRAP! Microsoft isn't gouging us as horrible on this one as they did on the Wireless-G adapter? I am shocked. That G adapter was $100+, I was expecting this to come out at $120 at least.
Isn't gouging? Are you sure about that?
Newegg had a PCMCIA D-LINK N Wireless Adapter for sale the other day, it was $12.99 shipped.
Why the hell is this so damn expensive? I hope a third party comes and undercuts this price.
@xcrunk
Many adapters don't work with the 360. You'll need a gaming adapter, which, yes, will not cost as much as the proprietary solution, but will definitely cost more than that PCMIA card.
Yes, but does your cheapie adaptor also double as a USB powered, dual nipple vibrator and dual beer can opener? Didn't think so. Microsoft is way ahead of you.
Why would you show a laptop card when talking about the 360?
I reported over a month ago the adapter was going to be priced at $99.99 retail and the current adapter would drop in price. But people just laughed and pelted me with dirt clods, but I guess I was right so all of you who doubted me, you can get on your knees and suck my Wireless-P.
Why on earth is this so damn expensive. It's almost 1/2 the cost of the arcade...
LMFAO RIP OFF
I bought the original, open box, for just $89
NOW I REALLY FEEL RIPPED OFF.
If this is going to be $88.00, then how much will the older, slower one be(read, I want that one, but don't want to pay anywhere near the current MSRP).
In europe: the same price as before or more, in the US: cheaper than before.
Just in time for COD (6) MW2. what are the odds?
Well, at least they knocked a few bucks off but srsly, am I they only one who prefers ethernet to wifi on consoles?
Yeah no kidding, latency over wifi can be pretty bad, it's not really appropiate for gaming.
Buy a better router then simple. I dont get lag when im on my PS3 + iPhone while my brother is on his laptop and 360. All wireless.
@Sam
Look there is no router that can perform wireless as good as wired.
PS3 has wifi g = 54Mbps
Ps3 Ethernet NIC - 1000Mbps or 1 Gigabit
Not to mention the increased Latency (ping time) caused by wireless.
I have a Linksys WRT320 and have tried both wirelessly/wired and wired is without a doubt a much more stable connection. If you don't believe me try to stream a HD movie from your pc to your ps3 and see if it doesn't freeze and have to buffer. Then try it on a wired connection.
Uh... when I'm home on break all I can use is wireless. The routers two floors away but I get no noticeable lag.
Same here, my ps3 is on a different floor and I don't see any noticeable lag either. I think it's just 360 Fan-boys upset they have to pay extra money for that lol
Gaming on wifi (on a pc anyway) is fine if you can find an adapter with a good chipset. I was having frequent lag spikes with a netgear wireless G stick a while ago, but once I switched to a Rosewill (newegg) wireless N adapter, gaming been as smooth as with ethernet.
Wireless performance depends on about a billion factors in the environment many of which are totally outside your control. If you get good wireless performance, good for you, you're lucky. But the point is, you're not going to be guaranteed anything like with ethernet.
I bet we still get ripped off here in the UK. I may see if I can find a cheaper American one on eBay.
Asda already got them in, £49.99 ~$82
Thanks for the heads up!! Maybe you should let Engadget know about this.
It's more worth the money if your router can do 5ghz, otherwise it would be nicer if they had a cheaper one with just 2.4 ghz band.
Wireless adapter? LoL. I'm just fine with my $10 , 100 foot long ethernet cable.
You must not be married.
That's funny, I just pre-ordered from Amazon today because I happened to check and it was there with the same Nov 10th ship date. Buy.com also has this listed. I might cancel my order and go through Costco now though since it is cheaper...
This is why add-ons are sometimes better. My friends WiFi chip burnt out in his PS3. It just happened on Monday. Does anyone know if a USB wireless adapter will work on the PS3?
If not, I can make him a 30 ft ethernet patch cord.
I think he could get a wireless bridge, or do like some 360 owners do and get a router that can support DD-WRT to turn it into a bridge. Obviously it won't be as nice looking as the adapter, but it'll get the job done.
Then again, you may be better off just making the 30 ft ethernet patch cord if it's easier for you/him that way.
these don't come built-in yet? wow talk about being out of date.
Back when the Xbox came out microsoft said that they wouldn't add wifi because there was already a faster wifi on the works. There was no bluray because HD DVD was still breathing (which in my opinion it was years ahead of bluray if it wasn't for Sony that paid all them millions of $$$ to the studios)....and microsoft was betting on Over the Air Movies.
So 3 years after and we see microsofts smart decisions paying off.
id rather get the trendnet gaming adapter, half the price for the same thing
$88? Wow. That is completely ridiculous. Just get some power over ethernet for $100. It's more reliable, easier to set up and you don't need an N router.
what the hell does PoE have to do with this? Do you even know what PoE is?
It's one for the buzzword freaks to bounce around like they know something ;)
I think its called ethernet over power such as the homeplug range, but yeah that or a wireless ethernet bridge is cheaper.
Matt must mean ethernet over powerline. Not PoE
Just buy a basic router for half the cost, then use it as a wireless ethernet bridge. Not only that, but you can use it for 3 other non-specific appliances, and if you ever need a router, you already have one. And better signal quality, also.
