why would you want to wait on a microsoft OS for your phone with the HD2? It may look nicer on the outside but sans keyboard and sans ANDROID ill take the DROID any day. ANDROID is the future #2 behind Apple and MOTOROLA is the company who is bring it to us the most, best, and with the fastest specs! Screw Microsoft OS or blackberry or PALM! They will all go the way of the commodore 64 and other original PCs until Microsoft and APple dominated the PC market but in the case of phone OS it will end up being GOOGLE and APPLE with MICROSOFT a distant 3rd for old timers.
Why would you wish those OS makers go under? Its one thing to hate them, but its a good thing that they are around since they increase the level of competition. Imagine how bad it would be if Apple was the only mobile OS manufacturer around. I mean Apple already sits on their laurels enough as it is.
Corporate discount does not work yet :(
Ohhhh, I need to wait until DROID doesn't gets listed in normal phone.
BTW, 1 year contract (vs 2 year) adds $70 to the price of DROID. Worth considering, if you were turned off by $350 ETF.
Also, I talked to CSR for awhile about their Annual Upgrade promotion.
If you get any plan that's $49.99 or higher and register to myVerizon (or something), and get 2 year contract, you'll be eligible for a new phone every year! You don't have to wait until your 2 year contract to expire to get a new phone. Getting it after 1 year will reset NE2 date, but who care! You get a new phone for cheap. Just sell the old one and you'll get more than $50 that NE2 will give you. Keep in mind that, if you get a voice plan that's $39.99 and ADD $30 data plan, that doesn't count as $49.99 or higher plan. You need to get a $79.99 (or less if you have a corporate discount) plan that includes both voice and data. It seemed weird but CSR told me that that's how the Annual Upgrade works. Get Voice+Data plan, DON'T GET voice plan and add data.
What's the price for family plans then to get the 1-yr price?
FYI this is exactly like Sprint's Premier status.
just ordered online with my corporate discount. 1 year price was $229.99! so you only pay $30 more for the 1 year contract vs. the 2 year contract! did have to pay $52 in sales tax however (they charged tax off the full unlocked price), which kinda sucks.
How did you make corporate discount work?
For me, DROID has special webpage that doesn't show my company name and it doesn't give me 20% off...
all i did was go through the link that verizon sends to your corporate email address to send you to the page with the discount. you can have them send you the link by going through http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/employee/emaildomainauthentication.jsp. mine showed my company's name at the top and i was able to get the 22% off.
@Brandon
My corp discount page shows the Droid for the $199 price after instant rebate and it's available with the discounted calling plans. Your company might just have a different arrangement? I dunno.
Ordered mine up for $99 w/ new contract and $100 NE2 discount.
...now I just have to wait for it to show up!
I couldn't believe it when I saw that... I also just ordered my Droid (NOT Eris) for NINETY-NINE BUCKS through Verizon online with a New Every 2 discount added, no mail-in rebate to hassle with, and free overnight shipping on my order. And yes, if you get one now the Early Termination Fee described in the fine print is still $179.
I had gone to Best Buy and preordered a Droid there (by buying a $50 gift card), but the phone would have been $199 for me there. Verizon online cut the price of the phone in half for me! Verizon online didn't appear to have the media dock in stock though (they did have the car dock). Looks like I'll be spending that Best Buy gift card on docks and other accessories whenever BB gets them in stock... ;)
Does anyone know how much Eris is if you are already on contract with Verizon?
Depends on how much of a contract you have left. Depending on your contract type, if you are at least 1 year into the contract you are eligible for an annual upgrade. The annual upgrade allows you to pay the 2 year contract price, but you have to extend your contract for an extra two years. Of course you can always buy the phone outright for $560 and not have to extend your contract.
I'm eligible for the annual upgrade in January, but I'm seriously considering just buying the phone outright to avoid tacking on another 2 years to my contract.
Whoops, missed the Eris part--I think 470
$350 ETF android does.
iPhone doesn't.
That 350 ETF is the reason I'm willing to go buy a Mytouch 3g or an iPhone come January when my contract is up.
It's disgusting that cell phone contracts are more one sided and evil than probably all Hollywood contracts.
this doesnt apply if you buy it before the 15th right?
also my corporate discount page is not showing the droid yet :/
@Christopher: So let me get this straight... you're waiting out the last couple of months of your current contract (which saves you what, twenty or thirty bucks?) but you care how much the ETF is for your next phone? I agree that the ETF is steep, but who cares if you plan to honor the contract you made with the phone company anyway? ETF's are just for people that want to break their word.
If you're considering breaking your word on a contract, why not cancel your CURRENT contract a couple of months early, pay the little ETF fee remaining, and get the Droid now while the new ETF is only $179?
iPhone doesn't...YET. Verizon is just creating a new standard. If all the carriers start charging $350 ETF, I'll just buy my phones outright and go month to month. Screw them.
so its showing as 199 online is this instant discount then?
I'm waiting for an HTC R2D2.
WTF its $100 for 450 minutes and unlimited data and text???
T-Mobile is $60!!
I know right, 45 dollars for unlimited data is ridiculously overpriced. Minutes aren't too horrible, but messaging and data usage wise, verizon has SHITTY prices.
Not to defend the outrageous prices, but the $45 data plan is for tethering. Its only $30 (still too much IMO tho) for unlimited 'web and email'
to sam
it doesnt cover tethering verizon wants you to pay another $30 for tethering. i was going to get a droid but i cant afford 100 a month on something that i pay $60 for with tmobile *sigh* my day is ruined.
So wait... If I'm currently in the middle of a Verizon contract, and I want to get a Droid, I either have to wait a full year to get one or pay $560? There's no adding on time to the existing contract?
If you're past 1 year, you can do an annual upgrade, which will renew your contract and you'll pay a slightly higher price. You could add a line, buy the phone, and ETF your current line. You'll lose your phone number tho, but it wont cost as much as $560. OR you can email CS (dont call, email works much better) and ask for them to move your NE2 date up to tomorrow. A number of people have gotten that to work
Alright all ten of you out there excited about this, your day has come, now go buy your phone.
seriously? The first phone on Verizon that they 100% have to keep their hands off, and you're seriously acting this way??
10? Don't you think you are exaggerating a little there ;)
Over a hundred lined up at midnight in Manhattan to buy. Check out CNET. Looks like it's going to be a big, big hit.
got mine from wirefly.com for 149.00
After verizon commitment price just doubled I will not buy the droid. I almost wanted to.
The worst part about all of this? Since they're shipping on Friday, none of us will get them until Monday. Yesss.
just got mine from a Verizon store here in CT. $230 on my corporate account! Loving it.
I went to BB last night and looked at both, ended up putting an Eris on hold. But after I left, they called an told me that Verizon told them the Eris would be for sell until Tuesday, so they will hold it until then. Anyone else hear anything like that? I know they have a whole cabinet full of them on hand. :P
I'm going to call this morning and see if I can talk to someone else--still hoping to upgrade today.
Does anyone know if the "New Every Two" discount is good in store? My upgrade on the website is giving me $100 off for that and $100 off for online price for a total of $99.
If I can't at least get $100 in store screw it I'll wait a week so I only have to drop $100 for it.
did anybody else notice that the dimensions they have on vzw.com are wrong? they have the depth and width dimensions swapped lol
Got my Droid this a.m. I have been playing with it for few hours and all I can say is WOW!!!! This is an amazing phone. My previous phone was the Storm, which I thought was a solid phone on 5.0. The Droid blows it away. AMAZING!!!
I have a question. Did verizon cripple the bluetooth on both phones?
The data plans are still way too expensive for me. I will wait for them to get down to $70. I really want a Droid too =(
Android OS thats right!!!
