We just received a set of screengrabs from an anonymous source giving us a glimpse at what appears to be Google's (and thus, the world's) future interface to its web applications, Gmail in particular. While we were originally tempted to ignore them, communications with the tipster would indicate genuine insider knowledge. Regardless, we can not independently confirm the authenticity of these images. Having said that, the pics demonstrate a more unified apps interface based on
Google's Wave and accessible from any browser (as they are now). Specifically, we're told that "the goal is to provide a consistent experience throughout all Google Apps and blur the line between the browser and the website (e.g. drag and drop, right-click, etc.)." Something that certainly makes sense to us based on what we know about Google's tender approach to its
Chrome browser and its future "lightweight"
Chrome OS. If true then this "work in progress" also hints at the importance of Wave to the future of Google. Then again, it could be just one of many possible interface concepts from Google's burgeoning developer's sandbox.
Better title would be "Google Waves spread through Google Apps"
Google also recently updated their Orkut design on the lines of wave design...however the new Orkut design is invitation only for now.... also heard, Orkut has been completely rewritten from the scratch using Google web toolkit.
seems like Google is trying to integrate all their services on the web to play nicely with each other.... like preparing for something BIG...
Chrome OS anyone?
Or better yet, Google Waves make a splash in Google Apps
"Google Wave overturns small fishing vessel in South China sea" ... ?
I like it much more.
"Google waves splash across google apps"
The UI looks distorted and I can't see the damn thing. What's so great about Wave?
Another hype? :)
Are you on drugs?
How did you know! BTW, doesn't everyone just use the stylish add-on and customize their UI anyways. I made my gmail (and all google pages) black cuz it looks way cooler.
Let's hope they introduce the option for a non-threaded email layout.
That would be a great feature i hate them being threaded
No, you fυcking aѕѕholes. Let's see them make access to the Spam folder through pop3 so me and my Thunderbird can ignore their crappy web interface altogether.
@BeGone: Try IMAP or MAPI, POP3 is crap!
Why is this lowranked? I don't particularly like threaded messages either... He's just stating an opinion, it's not like he's trolling.
"Why is this lowranked?"
Because people are idiots.
If they like threaded, everyone must like threaded! No options for you!
That's one of the problems with society. The whole "there can be only one" attitude.
It's low-ranked because threaded conversation view is what makes Gmail Gmail and they are clearly never going to get rid of it (in fact, you can say with Wave that they're taking the idea a step further). If you don't like threaded conversations, Yahoo and Hotmail are there as good-enough alternatives for you to enjoy instead of QQ'ing about it in the Engadget comments..
I mean seriously!
"Uh-oh, an opinion! Break out the lowrank pistols!"
PEW PEW
not lowranked yet?
DOUBLE TAP!
This makes total sense... the next step is combining wave itself directly with gmail ;)
Down the road all the communication products will be through the same access point.
This is the date when I go looking for a new webmail. Gmail is the only Google Service I currently use, only for it's simplicity, clean layout & Labels. As soon as they put wave useless complexity I will switcht gmail for yahoo as junk mail account.
I mean change google for microsoft over this product then you can really see the crap it is. Microsoft Wave is like the new BOB this time by google.
@Carlos I think it's just a new look, not Wave inside all google apps, put a picture of regular gmail next to these ones and you'll see how much simple and clean these ones are.
Interestingly, the screen is traditional 4:3 TV shaped, NOT widescreen. If you try the layout in widescreen, you lose a lot of screen to the GMail or other Google logo. The developers really must consider the usability on the sadly now ubiquitous widescreen format.
That might require moving the mail list box slightly upwards.
Can Google engineers accomplish such a feat?
Is the world ready for such a drastic change?
Will it cause a black hole to open up and destroy the solar system?
The Large Google Collider.
So are they doing everything in java/GWT now?
Makes sense with the new google dashboard service.
One thing to consider: the supposed URL for all of these sites is simply http://www.google.com/
Seems a bit strange, no?
I picked that up as well - to me, that indicates that this is mockups at best instead of an actual implementation.
I noticed the URL as well and I'm guessing the same thing. But, it also could be the person doing the screen shots wanted to block the URL as it could have been internal and did not want to give that out (then again, why not just blur it like the rest of the content!).
with the http:// being a lot lighter than the www.google.com, it does look like the address was altered for security (and keeping the author of the supposed tip off the radar) purposes...and makes perfect sense.
i really like the look, very smooth and clean...and if this is indeed accurate then i welcome the seamless application design
@doug
he's viewing the page in chrome, that's the way it displays a URL...the http:// is lightened and the actual domain you're visiting is bolded
I was going to mention this too. Even if everything was accessed through Google.com like that, there would still be a location hash for each action you're completing for browser history/direct linking purposes (such as #inbox on the current gmail).
Clearly someone pulling everyone's legs.
This is clearly someone pulling your leg! Slow news day.
here comes the end of the world.
"accessible from any browser" as in "still ignoring Opera"??
F* opera.
From the screenshot, it looks like the interface won't use the terrible scrolling system that Wave currently uses for the inbox section. yay.
But man, that wave interface needs a lot more work before I'd make it my gmail default.
Still as ugly as ever. Why can't Google hire some good designers?
Plus the wastefulness of taking a whole line of space so that a logo can be fitted to the top of the page. Chrome introduced its vertical space-saving design, yet Google's apps continue to waste it.
Space to the Google's logo right is used as a taskbar with minimized windows (such as an inbox window on one of the screenshots). I can imagine that in daily use of, say, gmail and wave you'll wish there was even more space for that!
Now, ChromeOS sure needs taskbar, doesn't it?
One of the best things about Wave is the design.
I am shitting myself in anticipation for this.
dont like it.
Here is how blogger willl look soon!
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/7545/preview6g.jpg
shopped, time, pixels, etc
I reckon this will be exactly what the OS will look like, the Title bars, buttons and scroll bars will be exactly that.
hope they make waves with their crappy contacts manager considering how it's now tied to my phone.
May i kindly request a google wave invite?
No. Even I can't get a damn invite.
I have thirty invites to spare-- respond with emails and I will further the idea of an engadget wave.

@Ladyguenwywar: Could you kindly invite me as well? Much obliged.
