New iMac and MacBook touchscreens debut, thanks to Troll Touch

Troll Touch -- the fun little company with the unfortunate name -- have announced more of their award-winning analog resistive touch kits for 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs as well as unibody MacBooks. Prices for the iMac kits themselves start at $1099, or you can order new machines with the kits pre-installed starting at $2299. For laptop owners, your touchscreen kits start at $699. Not cheap at all, but you know what the song says: You've got to pay the troll's toll. Delivery slated to begin before December 1, 2009. If you've never seen a video of someone using a touchscreen, you're in for a treat -- we included one after the break. You're welcome.

Some of you guys really just don't get that this has nothing to do with Apple, do you?
Oh, whoops! They're totally PCs that those are made for! Not iMacs, or MacBooks like the headline says....
@Jack
I faill to see how you can say this has nothing to do with Apple when the company specializes in making touch screens for Apple iMacs, MacBooks, and Mac monitors. Nothing about Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, or PCs in general, its nothing but Apple machines.
Did you even look at the website?
"Troll Touch Touchscreens
Touch Enabling the Apple Macintosh Since 1987"
it doesn't look like "standard" resistive tech... you know the 3 or 5 wire, two ITO layer sheets separated by an air gap - wouldn't work through that lovely glossy sheet of glass...
anyway, good luck with the fingerprints! ;-)
Thank you Engadget... (sic)
maybe lame of me to say, but I really HATE to see fingers on my computer screen.
I already need have to wipe my screeen like once in 3 days....can u imagine how often i will be doing it with it?
Wow! How much porn are YOU watching?
I really can't make myself want a desktop touchscreen... like... ever. If I really want zombie arms I'll just go get bitten by the undead, thank you very much.
....Brainsss....
What is it with the desire to touch screen? Are scratches and finger grease really worth the tactile pleasure?
Hands OFF my display screen.
Mac users are Rich(or sons of Rich) and i think they will not pay to much attention to prices
PROTIP: hackintosh it.
Ahmed - Just like how Windows users are all common denominator, Microsoft-worshipping toadies with an IQ of 70 or so.
You're right, generalizing IS fun!
I want that multitouch keyboard thing, already!
No thanks... I'd much rather wait for multitouch...
Isn't "Troll Touch" an indictable offense?
You could do some good with Albratron's 42" optical screen, and then hook it up to a Mac Mini. You won't have i5/7, but you'll have a pretty neat Mac rig.
What do they do with the stock screen? That's the best part of the new iMac.
I appreciate the hell out of that Always Sunny reference. Thanks engadget
You don't have to pay the toll, just throw a red herring at him.
$1099!!! TOUCH THIS!!!
This just hammered me! $1099 – You can’t touch this.
NOBODY wants to touch their screen.
typical apple sub-standard hardware for typical stratospheric apple overpricing.
No thanks. I can build a Win 7 gaming pc thats more powerful and stable for half that price.
of the touch screen
not to mention, this this doesn't even have wheels. I mean, I can buy a real bicycle for a fraction of the cost and it probably wont break if i try to sit on it. typical of apple to release an overpriced computer that doesn't even make coffee, wake up fanbois, you can get a coffee maker for $15 at wal-mart. some people are so stupid that i can't even comprehend them.
Nineball, how does this product have anything to do with Apple at all? Are you confused or something?
i use this or something similar a the state fair in the car show. good for a kiosk i guess.
wobble wobble.
There's going to be this amazing revelation that you can achieve so much of what you can do with a touch screen by using a small remote extension (possibly wired, possibly bluetooth maybe a few buttons or many), on the flat surface that your arms are resting upon, without all of that annoying exertion of lifting your arms up to hit "send" every time you write an e-mail or play Bejewelled.
this video even shows the pinnacle of mac gaming!
before you use touchscreens for desktops , make sure to make an arrangement with your spine and your arms.
I don't understand the hype about touchscreens for desktops; firstly they are unhealthy for the locomotor system and secondly unergonomical for "hours" of play and unproductive for "hours" of work.
for quick presentation purposes, okay! but appart from that simply just a gimmick imo.
I will never buy from Troll Touch again. I've got one of these and needed to reinstall the OS. They require me to ship it back to them and pay $250+s/h to 'upgrade' it to a newer controller in order to send me drivers that will work with it. It's now basically useless without spending another $250 as they won't give end users the software to install on it. If you get this expecting to use this through an OS upgrade or drive failure, think again. If you did get this, at least make a backup of your drive so you don't have to give them more money to keep using it. Never have I seen a company try to do anything like this. Amazing.
