Stealth's rugged LPC-395F Mini PC: it's like a caged monster, but weak
Stealth Computer has been kicking, shoving and blasting ruggedized PCs out of its labs for years on end, and the latest mini PC is amongst the smallest we've seen to still sport such a hardcore shell. The LPC-395F is a fanless rig with integrated removable storage, featuring front-loading removable media slots (for HDDs and flash media), a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, a metal chassis and an overall size of just 6.54- x 6.18- x 1.89-inches. As for ports, you'll find twin gigabit Ethernet sockets, four USB 2.0 connectors, DVI and RS-232; there's also an inbuilt WiFi module and room for 2GB of RAM, while the OS that arrives is totally your call. The base configuration checks in at $795, but you'll probably end up paying well north of a grand when everything's said and done.

Underpowered and overpriced piece of shit.
Agreed. Just looks like a case from Mini-box.com and the Intel Atom 330 board. Total came to under $300 for me after 2GB of RAM and a 320GB Seagate G-force sensor 2.5" drive.
BOOOOOOOO THIS COMPANY
That is a lot of money for not a lot of machine.
I dont understand that point in this... when would you need a rugged non-portable PC? I understand a rugged Laptop but this...
Stealth PC ha... If all it takes these days to call a PC your own is a badge on it then FUCK ME I am a going to become a PC manufacturer. This is nothing a purpose built computer from AOpen specifically designed for the Digital Signage industry. Apparently its also a Steal LPC-395F. What a joke !!! ZERO Engineering on Stealth part, except for some artwork for a badge. Good work !!!
what exactly is the advantage of getting this over a nettop?
For some reason this makes me think of the old IBM days where computers were just made of stock parts and this kind of contraption would be considered mainstream... What am I talking about I wasn't alive at the time...
I was thinking that this would be great for a CarPC... but then I saw the price. No thanks. I'd rather buy a nettop (or even a netbook with an external power switch) and throw an SSD in it.
I'm thinking of doing a CarPC myself, check out the fit-PC2 (http://fit-pc2.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page). Not as good but way cheaper.
plan of action!
1. Buy Ion based net top.
2. Buy chicken wire.
3. Surround net top in chicken wire.
4. Bolt chicken top to something.
5. ????
6. Profit
Upmodded funny because I imagined chickens being bolted on top of the computer before I figured out what you meant.
wow, I liked the idea of a low powered firewall setup powered by Atom platform, until I see the PRICE.... wow, I will just burn a few more tons of coal with ULV core 2 duo, I think that is more economical. and, probably cheaper.....
This is really built for military applications and could be very useful depending on how well it handles out in the sand and the heat. Having component based pc's with easily removable bays could make a nice mid size deployment container.
Dude the case is full of giant holes. How long do you expect it's going to last in a frickin sandstorm!?
The 2.5" Bay hotswapping is a nice idea but it doesnt save it.
Why would anyone want a rugged under power desktop pc, with no or little water-proofing.
These are for people to put in our cars. but at this price, i will buy the poineer unit ;-) People here have the right idea, i would rather cram a EEEtop in my dash, than pay 800 for this.
Isn't this the AOpen Digital Engine DE2700 that can be had for $270 (currently) at logicsupply and other fine retailers?
