T-Mobile is now offering unlimited voice for little enough cash through its
Even More promo these days that it's officially bidding
myFaves adieu, spelling out the final chapter of one of the better-known plan packages in the US wireless biz. It won't go away completely -- the myFaves app will apparently continue to be offered as a convenient, cutesy way to access five frequent contacts and existing subscribers won't be kicked off their plans -- but for new subscribers, Even More is being billed as the spiritual successor. For the record, unlimited voice through Even More Plus starts at $49.99, so the price is definitely right -- but more importantly will this end up meaning that we lose the beloved silkscreened myFaves logo on the back of virtually every T-Mobile handset sold today?
is that quote from Fez or does it have an earlier origin?

End of an era for sure.
As for T-Mobile in general, they'd better hope these new rate plans work. Verizon has really backed them into a corner with the Droid. They no longer dominate the up and coming Android world. 3rd quarter was so weak too. Without the handsets to match, these plans will pull them under.
I don't understand th new plans. Could someone explain it to me? What's the cheapest plan with unlimited data and the least amount of minutes.
@Icello: $59.99 for 500 minutes, unlimited text + data.
Hey, the Motorola Click in no Droid, but its a cool lil phone. I also have it on very good auth that T-mo IS getting the N900 before Christmas! Believe it.
Well, yes, as a T-Mobile user under contract if I had to get a new phone today it'd definately be a Cliq. Doesn't change the fact that Q3 was so bad for T-Mobile that they might not be around this time next year. The only change between now and then has been the new rate plans.
Your droid is only good for a couple of weeks. Once SE X10, and other Android 2.0 phones come out for GSM/HSDPA that is used around the world instead of stupid CDMA, the droid is nothing special anymore.
Q3 so bad? T-mobile has a net gain of subscribers for the year, and they most definitely will be around next year. Their customers aren't fleeing in droves like Sprint.
@Mr. Fry
They lost a total of 77,000 in the quarter. This was after the big boys back home in Europe told them they needed to turn it around by next summer. The impressive gains they had last year after the G1 debuted will vanish as those enthusiasts go to better hardware on other carriers.
I want T-Mo to stick around, I've been with them since they were Voicestream. Hell, my SIM card is still the old Voicestream one. They've always been great to me and my family, but the future is a little bleak right now.
@Karl, Icello:
Actually, Karl posted the price for the contract-free, "Even More Plus" plans. With the "Even More" plans (which requires a 2 year contract) is actually $79.99 for 500 minutes and unlimited text+data. All these plans come with free nights, weekends and tmob-tmob. The contract plan is more expensive presumably to cover the cost of the discount they give you on your phone. In the long run, you're better off paying full price for your phone and going with the no-contract plans.
The reason T-mobile still has a chance is that Verizon's plans for DROID with unlimited text+data start at $99.99, and cap off at $149.99 for unlimited everything. Yes, the DROID plans seem to be higher than the plans Verizon offers on normal phones. For reference, T-mobile's plans start at $79.99 and cap off at $99.99 with a 2 year contract, or start at $59.99 and cap off at $79.99 with no contract (that's a full $70/month LESS than Verizon!). That's gonna make a huge difference to people who use a lot of minutes. T-mobile wasn't kidding around when they said that their new plans are half the price of Verizon.
I have myfaves on my G1, and I love it. I barely ever use any mins.
Not anymore you don't! >:D
"existing subscribers won't be kicked off their plans"
RTFA
My myfaves icon disappeared right after I switch to loyalty minutes plan... I guess they knew I don't need to have 5 unlimited numbers when everything is unlimited (well not internationally of course.)
Btw engadget, please use this image for every T-Mobile article, it really makes me happy!
They have used it for all the tmobile ads, at least the ones that aren't based on one of their phones.

Well, that's good in a way. I'm not a big fan of the "here's x contacts that you can place nicely with but we'll screw you over if you go outside of these x contacts."
I'm not a big fan of T-Mobile though. Their recent issues have made me weary of them.
like other carriers havent had problems? it was one short outage that didnt affect everybody. The most recent outrage I can remember on another carrier was Verizon's feature phone data outage. Anyways t-mobile has the best customer service ever! They replaced my sidekick 3 times in a row for a stupid problem then gave me a different phone! dont hate on carriers(except att)
I don't hate them, but I'm weary of them. Their outage was on a national scale and erasing all of the Sidekick's information? That would be enough to scare me away. I like T-Mobile and I've heard good things from them, but they're lagging behind (3G & 4G). The other two issues just make me want to steer clear of it for a while.
the sidekick data problem was hitachi/danger/microsoft and ya the 3g/4g lagging behind is a legit reason to ditch.
Maybe they'll catch up quickly, eh?
I'm sticking with my myfaves plan. $40 a month, and because I only call a few people often I usually only use 10-10 of my anytime minutes. Recent problems have me considering moving to Verizon though. Maybe when my contract expires.
Exactly. 300 mins at 39.99. Since I am not on a contract, they will not sign me up for my employee discount. Even with an unlimited plan at 10 bucks more, I'd be better off signing a contract for the Droid and getting my employer's discount with Verizon. With Google Voice, the amount of minutes is moot as long as I get a favs list.
39.99 and one of MyFaves is my GV number. I give up caller ID on the GV line for for unlimited minutes and transcribed voicmail. I also pay $24.99 for Data + 400 texts, my total montly bill with taxes and fees comes to $78.xx.
As I understood it the last time I looked this was still the best deal going. Maybe I need to doublecheck that.
@Chase:
Check out the Smartphone plans on Verizon before you switch, you have to get at least 900 minutes to get a calling circle with VZ, and on a DROID with unlimited text+data that's gonna cost you $119.99/month ;). If you drop unlimited texts, that will save you $20. You must be getting some damn good employer discount for that to be worth it.
I'm hoping someone can help me out with this.
I have a MyTouch on Tmobile, and I am paying $100 a month for service. Does this sound right?
I feel like it should be much cheaper...especially after reading in a thread on another site that there was a couple who had 2 phones and were paying $90/month for the two.
It is a prepaid plan (I believe it's called flexpay), and I've got the unlimited text/data package and 600 minutes...I had 400, but the 400 minute rate plan doesn't include free nights.
I have their 300 mins 5favs plan. unlimited nights and weekends for 39.99, and i think unlimited text is 35.00, so maybe about 82 or so after FCC and 911 junk.
There's no reason to be paying more than $79.99 for a single line. It all comes down to how many minutes you want.
500: $59.99
1000: $69.99
Unlimited: $79.99
Those all include text and data.
I believe there is a $35 charge for current customers to move to Even More plans, but that would pay for itself in two months.
Well, as one commenter said before, there's a 500 minute plan with unlimited data/text for $59.99 a month. I don't know if that includes free nights, but its cheaper.
Just to add some information, Those "Even More Plus" plans all include free nights, weekends and tmobile-tmobile.
I'm on T-Mo flexpay, have the G1, pay $39.99 for 300 minutes, unlimited night and weekends, and unlimited to fave 5, pay $30 for unlimited data/text for Android (which includes visual voicemail and is the data plan required for Android handsets), pay $5 for the mandatory handset insurance, which comes to around $75, but after tax and all their fees I pay $96.xx.
So it's not unusual for your bill to be $100 after all their fees and bs. Are you counting tax and fees? Or just the package total?
Thank you google voice why did people write guides on how to get unlimited free calling with my faves Tmobile would have figured it out eventually but i mean come on
Yeah... that is a BIG plus for myfaves.
Still you can use a skype or gizmo line into your home and double it up with google voice. Gives you a landline and you use it instead of your cell.
I have my favs and an iPhone - $40 1500 mins $5.99 data
Every time I see that picture, lol.
Did Engadget really just make a Hannah Montana reference...
Did you just recognize a Hannah Montana reference?
I must not watch enough Hannah Montana, cause I still can't find it.
Pic = win
I know everyone loves the picture, but it really annoys me that the laser beams are diverging. If they were actually coming from her eyes they wouldn't diverge instead they should intersect on her point of focus.
So you're saying she can't focus on two things at once?
lazy eye
DON'T CROSS THE BEAMS!!
It's 'shopped, I can tell by the pixels!
And since she's looking at the camera her focal point is... YOU!
So wait.... I have MyFaves. And they AREN'T going to offer me a better deal/kick me off this plan?
I think they assume you'll move over one day. You're locked in with that plan, they'll inevitably offer something sweet, an incompatible add on or what-not, that will get you over on to one of their new plans.
Meh, you'll probably get mailers every so often saying "Hey, we killed this plan, move to this one." (basically), but I don't think they'll kick you off...
I pay 59.99 for two myfave lines, 1000 minutes, no nights or weekends or mobile. We use about 700-900 anytime minutes, and about 3000 myfave minutes. Still haven't found a better plan for us.
her eyes say YES! but the beams say NO :(
say what
Tmobile has become worthless to me.. Neither of my 2 phones ( iphone and g1 ) were subsidized in price by them, i'm stuck in a contract, and they now offer significantly lower rates for non contract holders. I have the 1800 minute family plan with unlimited text and data on both lines and it costs around $180 a month.. if i was not on contract, i would be paying around $50 less per month, and have unlimited minutes, in order to match what I pay now i would have to back down to the new 1500 minute plan.. anything else is more than I am currently paying. I am taking my business elsewhere.
