Matrox pushes eight displays with a single-slot PCIe x16 GPU
Matrox has been distancing itself from the consumer market for awhile now, but even we couldn't resist this one. Hailed as the planet's first single-slot octal graphics card, the M9188 supports up to eight DisplayPort or single-link DVI outputs, and if you're up for getting really crazy, you can hook up a pair to drive 16 displays from a single workstation. The card itself packs 2GB of memory and supports resolutions as high as 2,560 x 1,600 (per output), which should be just enough to create the Google Earth visualization system you've always dreamed of. In related news, the outfit also introduced the far weaker 1GB M9128, which can drive a grand total of two displays for $259. Oh, and as for pricing on the octal guy? Try $1,995 when it ships later this quarter.

Du scheitere.
No...... Neins!
Ihr könnts alle nicht.
omg... yes! i don't need a freaking projector, I've got Crossfire and 16 monitors. Take that for resolution!
yes! now i can finally set up my own personal Air Traffic Control center like i always wanted! :D
Do you have a game that offers up 20k horizontal resolution and 3k vertical? What's the aspect ratio on that, like 6:1, not good for movies.
Or were u going to buy a projector with same.
I dunno, cause if you were ready and $ able to buy a 20k x 3k projector I'd stay the course. Who makes it btw?
Its like Matrox gave the customers the birdie....
"Multitouch? Multitouch?!! MULTITOUCH THIS, SON!!!
Nice.
SIXTEEN MONITOR CRYSISOMG?
No. It won't.
If you try, I'll just camp behind one of the bezels.
It'll run it.. 2-3fps counts.
your lucky that i can run solitaire. 10 years ago, matrox had a name for itself.
If only the lower end guy could do 4 monitors. I'd be all over that with love. ATI's got the ticket now anyway for consumer grade multi-mon so I won't be loosing much sleep.
I don't understand your post. Graphics cards of today let you drive two monitors. Just adding a second card will let you drive 4 displays. The catch is you can't run it in the SLI or Cross Fire mode.
I think he's referring to the new ATI Eyefinity tech coming out that I think pushes 6 monitors from 1 card.

Yep, and I never try to max out my GPU for heat and power consumption concerns so 4 on that (or 3 much more likely) would be perfect for me in a nice single card solution:)
You know how badass Google Earth would look with that?
Dirty Harry meets John McClane level of badassetry.
But you know that everyone who buys one of these is doing so that they can have 16 separate HD porn movies running simultaneously.
Why can't you buy bezel-less monitors easily :(
@ Josh,
Because people are complaining how the projectors are not as expensive as these monitors. More $$$ must mean better, ya?
But can it play... *GUNSHOT*
I'd like to see the print screen on that thing...
haha good point
So what's the deal with Display Port? I was looking at new monitors a few weeks ago and cannot seem to find any monitors that offer DisplayPort as an input. The FEW I found were significantly higher priced, almost two fold with no other advantages other than DP.
Anyone have any insight?
Displayport is only really ideal for 30 inch monitors. Lower end monitors don't use Displayport because typically HDMI, DVI, or VGA will do just fine.
Dell u2410, second poster clueless.
Widescreen Porn
A different porno flick for each screen. PROGRESS!
A few years ago they busted a drug dealer in Atlanta. Inside his mansion the cops found a flat panel setup like that, but IIRC, it had even more screens. The guy was a total techo dweeb, but in other ways not so smart. When they knocked down his front door, he ran up to a bedroom and threw a safe with two kilos of coke out the window and into some bushes. As if.
When he gets out of prison, the new, much lower cost for the multi-monitor setup should bring a smile to his face.
cool story bro
"This man, was ME!"
Wow, I didn't even know Matrox was still in business.
AHAHAH
I know , thses guys are serving bread and water in the calfeteria to keep costs down.
Time to die Matrox.
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrox is. You have to see it for yourself.
id buy that bitch
Or.. you know... you could just buy a ATI Radeon HD 5870 for $399 with support for 6 monitors at 2560x1600 each. Add a second card, and you got 12 monitors for $789
Oh, did I mention you can play games?
$798, but very good point indeed. These new ATI cards can satisfy just about whatever you need.
that's just for the card though.. then you gotta buy 12 monitors and some type of rig to hold all those displays.
That's about 10 monitors more than I will ever use at once :(
And you get no business support from AMD, use a lot of power and put out a lot of heat.
Now all we need to do is see how much ATI's Eyefinity line costs.
$259 for dual monitors? :| What a rip. Got dual monitors at work and at home for the price of a $12.00 cable, no special card needed.
I think it's safe to say that with 16monitors all at 2560x1600, that it would run crysis at negative ф۞╫φ and ⅓ FPS .
I know they're for different markets, but the upcoming 5870 Eyefinity Edition will push 6, put two in Crossfire and push 12 at half the cost (as a guess) :)
Except Eyefinity is currently not supported under Crossfire.
Awesome. If I could only afford more than one monitor, I would definitely buy this.
Can you imagine playing Q-Bert on this byotch? WHAT A HO!
