Sparkz projector / dock for iPhone displays your videos, empties your wallet (video)
If you're in the market for an Apple handheld-friendly pico projector, you're in luck. Sparkz is a bulbous white dock that will play nice with your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPod video, as well as your favorite A/V and VGA sources. Featuring 640 x 480 resolution, a 60-inch viewing area, and stereo speakers, it can be yours for the low, low price of -- $495? Well, it will charge your iPhone. And it does come with a tripod. And, to be honest, a 60-inch viewing area is none too shabby. If you think it's worth it, by all means hit that read link and snatch one up. In the meantime, we'll content ourselves with watching the video of the thing in action. It's after the break, and it's free.

Tripod? Really?
We'll build our own tripods. Ours will have four legs. >:U
Spaghet!
No, you see- Steven likes to start with the movie poster and works his way back...
I really enjoy that people keep using Spagett in new product announcements. It's awesome.
SPAGETT! hahaha you're on camera. You just got so spooked.
I'm Spaghett. I do parties.
they spooked me so good on this one!!
I got spooked too.
man Phil Collins has gone downhill
Spooked ya!
Great Job!

Maybe they should have sold a Sparkz to fund a real review. This guy is a horrible evangelist.
The iPod Touch comes with an oleophobic multitouch backlit display, a full operating system, wifi, bluetooth, and an array of other features, wrapped in a much sturdier case.
This thing costs more than double the cost of an iPod Touch, and has stubby little 6-inch legs on the tripod. Use that $500 to pick up an HD projector. They're not so heavy that I ever wished someone would just solve the problem of making them smaller.
It's smaller, but large enough that you'd still need an extra bag to carry it.
Sorry you guys wasted your time creating this thing that might sell at one-third its current price point, but I really feel sorry for the VC that funded this.
These small ones do carry more easy, and they are less noisy from fans for the heat, and there isn't a $250 lightbulb in it that needs replacing after a while.
Rather expensive, but looks cool.
To engadget: You don't pay $495 fools, you get it from santa for free because you were good and didn't make anti-intel cartoons or something.
Is it just me, or does this guy have a serious case of heavy breathing? It sounded like he was winded just talking about the product.
Yeah probably a heart condition.
Gooooooood newwwwws! Cigarette Juice!
On a show with a lot of gross stuff, that was easily the grossest that season.
This where personal computer is heading. Dock your device, project a pretty nice picture on the wall and use a wireless keyboard/mouse. Then your actual computer is with you all the time. Imagine as the technology gets cooler... HD pico projectors that will fit in the phone... touchscreen keyboards/trackpads that sit on or recessed in your desktop... Fun stuff!
I so want this functionality, but did anyone else notice the washed out contrast and the motion artifacts? Can't tell if it was a recording artifact (DVD rip or taping issue). I'd expect a pretty decent 480P image for the price. Maybe it's not great on action content.
Glad I sold my Iphone. Now someone else can buy all the expensive and shitty accessories that goes along will that brick.
And then your phone rings in the middle of your slide show presentation to your boss and coworkers and everyone can see on big screen that "pussy lips" is calling you so you ignore the call but then the text message comes through "so want to fcuk your brains out tonight!!" on big screen and you fumble to press the sleep button and end up just smashing the damn thing
Too bad it can't display the movies horizontally. That would make too much sense. Just another boring gadget.
New from Cinco vision.
640x480... What is this 1995?
No it's an iphone, with a 480-by-320-pixel resolution and no HD out I'm told.
So projecting 480x320 on 640x480 is already overkill.
Although the iPhone's screen resolution is 320 x 480 I believe it records video at 640 x 480. It is also capable of playing back 1080p video files. The question is whether it sends an image greater than its native screen size via the dock connector?
expandble up to six inches?
Mine too :)
Spagett! Engadget's sense of humor seems infinite at times.
This looks like a pretty cool SPAGETT!!!!
Great Job!
!
Engadget has been spooked, by SPAGETT
One of the rare devices that actuallys uses a DisplayPort.
Now you need to go to RadioShack when you want to hook something ELSE to it.
