Bang & Olufsen's BeoVision 7 LCD grows to 55-inches, makes room for Blu-ray not frugality
Willing to pay anything for your home entertainment system so long as it's Danish? There's a good chance that Bang & Olufsen's BeoVision 10 40-incher just wasn't enough for you. If you're dropping the kind of dough that thing costs ($8,700) you want something impressive, right? Enter the BeoVision 7, shipping in a few weeks. Despite having a lower model number it receives a 15-inch boost, up to 55-inches total, but drops the refresh rate to 120Hz from the 10's 240Hz. It's LED-backlit with local dimming to boost contrast, has not one but two different motorized stand options, and manages to make room inside for a Blu-ray player. The cost? $18,700 with (non-motorized) stand and the custom-tailored center channel speaker you see above -- roughly twice the BeoVision 10 and a good bit more than this was originally supposed to launch for. Consider this the recession-buster cousin of the $93,050 BeoVision 4.

Wow, these are going to be FLYING off the shelves.
Yeah, but the one with wings and an engine costs 6,000$ extra... :(
Bang & Olufsen always make good quality products wrapped in psuedo-avante-garde designs.
Aww, poor B&O, maybe not *so* psuedo-avante-garde. Lets give them a cute nick-name, 'Bangers' :-)
At least there's local dimming and 120mhz eh? Still, an XBR8 55" is $5000 and a Blu-ray player $250-$2000 depending on features, no motorized stand and custom center channel (although the price difference is a decent home theater). There's no price on design, though, if you like this one that much.
(these are my thoughts; I'm not an expert. I cannot analyze the differences in image processing, build quality, your own requirements and a whole lot of other things...)
jacobsen sells his designs in next uk .... go figure!
Get a new car or get a new television? Decisions, decisions...
If you buy these kind of televisions, you just buy them both.
All these B&O news really relevant? They're just an expensive curiosity, even if you'd have money they're not that special.
Do you think that only poor people read engadget?
I know its expensive, and I know its not as good technically as a Kuro/whatever other high range panel, but I so want one in my living room. They small ones look really nice - I'm not quite sure why there is an emerging craze over here (UK) of having 50"+ tvs in main living rooms etc, it kind of destroys the room. I'd have one of these though.
This looks another great product from Bang and Olufsen
I have a problem when I see Bang and Olufsen products talked about, because people dont get there ethos. I Have the 40" version of the Beovision 7 and there Beo lab 3 + Lab 2 surround sound system, and on its own it is good and produces a very good picture, looks like a piece of art and its one hell of a talking point. However when you add in other Bang and Olufsen products along with home automation, this is where there products come to life and for example when you have multi-room audio and video, and when you watch a movie the lights can dim, blinds close and doors close, to create a full cinematic experience, have a look at the new alarm clock same principle, it interacts with the other products http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/15/bang-and-olufsens-beotime-alarm-clock-remote-favors-a-flute/
Dear Charles
You are living in a dream world.
Sounds great! They fit n well with my other B&O stuff. I might by 3 or 4 for my guest rooms.
No Peterjohndean he is not. But when you have never seen or owned B&O its hard to imagine I know :D
Really you guys that cant understand why people would pay for B&O, would you also never by a BMW, Rolls etc? Just because you can buy another car that can drive faster?
Really I would never buy a non B&O TV, sony, pana, samsung are just so... cheap and hideous, I hate plastic and cheap remotes etc.
I quess it boils down to Rolex or Timex :D
A quartz Timex hold time better than a mechanical Rolex ;)
The reason why I can make such a comment is that I HAVE owned B&O. It was quite beautiful, picture and sound were above average quality and after several trips to the repair shop I gave it away. Unfortunately paying through the nose does not guarantee anything except a smaller bank balance..
@Techtrino Rolex should never be compared to bang and olfusen, i know, ive owned two b and O's and still own two rolex's( sereiouls im not bragging) , bang and olfsen are like a top end sports car maker, very good but they borrow parts from other mainstream makers now many ford engines are in other makes of cars. Ive found sharp parts in my last b and o and have watch the gulf relatively speaking of the cost of other tvs compared to b and o, they used to be housed in proper wood cabinets and the last one i had i think it was a 8802 was good, but then after 17 years in 2003 i went to see about a new one and could not beleive the price, I could of bought a rolex daytona cosmograph for the same price and it would last be a lifetime, so please never compare a watch or the rolex caliber to a tv, it doesnt compute.
Ugh ugly.
Apple could make this for $3k and all of you would be in here screaming bloody murder. B&O offers it for double the price and most of you are totally blase...
Just because your families are poor Kenny, doesnt mean the TV isnt worth it. The options it offers are FOR PEOPLE who use these features are amazing, but then again, you guys dont live on 5th Ave or Park Ave. The ones pondering a car or a TV, ARENT looking at Lamborghinis are you? Didnt think so. Go back and enjoy your Vizios, when you reach the point in your life where you only want the best TOYS (These are all Toys) B&O is more the capable.
b and o b and q . is there a difference. when 1k miele washing machines are built on the same production line as another unamed make selling at a3rd of the price you know the games up!
Why do Engadget writers hyphenate measurements when they're not being used as adjectives?
The TV is 55 inches across. It grew to 55 inches.
You only hyphenate when you're combining words to make a single descriptive term:
It's a 55-inch TV.
Ugh.. You are such a twat.
