A supposed leak from closed-door Microsoft meetings in the UK has made its way to
MCV, who has all sorts of new details on
Project Natal's launch next year. Rumor is that the device will be released worldwide in November 2010 (we've heard "late next year" before), with 5 million camera units ready for day one, included in solo and console-bundled SKUs. Word varies on the price, with some saying "under £50" (about $84 USD), while others say as low as £30, about $50 USD. Apparently Microsoft is aiming for "impulse buy" territory, and it makes sense to subsidize the unit and make that money back in games sales, like a regular console launch (which Microsoft sort of sees it as, in many ways). There are supposed to be 14 games readied for launch, but no specifics on which developers that've signed up for Natal work will be among those on launch day. It all sounds about right, though we of course won't know for sure until Microsoft goes into tell-all mode, which we expect will be a decent ways down the road if they can't even confirm a
silly WiFi adapter for the holidays without months of hand-wringing.
With someone with that kind of language, it would probably be like putting a hotdog in a french stick.
Which I guess from your attempt at being masculine, is something you might prefer.
I'm still worried about the lack of a possible 'rumble feature' on Natal. It's a simple mechanism in my xbox controller but it makes a huge difference to me while I'm playing. I don't know about you people, but I think a more elaborate feedback mechanism adds way more to an immersive experience than a 'hands-free' system like Natal, where nothing is send 'back'
Well, you see, the rumble function interferes with the motion sensitivity.
Natal should ship with "Adhesive Rumble Sensors" that you can stick to various parts of your body.
Ugh... "priced for impulse buyers"? Talk about hitting me in my weak spot...
If Natal is the grey box on top of that xbox in the picture I do hope they will make it black to match it with my elite...
No that's not the Natal but I have no clue what it is. Any ideas anyone?
Its the Hard Drive of a DevKit 360.
What about some prenatal care?!? Like, Zune Marketplace, Twitter, and Facebook. Anyday now....
Notice the red shirt. You going to need it to experience great gaming. The motion camera response better to the red colors.
more MS console hardware rushed to the market, yay
Ok, now one group says it's taking too long, the other says it being rushed.
If those new wii rumours a right then microsoft has to get it out faster then november of next year. Also it has to be priced at $50 anything higher is not impulse buy .
I'm gonna guess it will about the price of a brand new A list game.
Throwing a hot dog down a hallway?
I'm cautiously optimistic about Natal. Still a long ways off and there are many ways for them to screw it up, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
The "impulse buy" category kinda ends at about $20 for me. $50 can almost get me a full priced game.
Let's be realistic here... MS sells a wireless adapter for $90. If they are willing to overprice something that should be included with every system then there is no way Natal is gong to be cheaper than that.
Indeed. So this "leaked news" sound like a fake.
In any case, MS takes their decision in Redmond. To foreign division (such UK), they just receive a memo saying that "x" products will be sell in the next couple of days (or weeks).
Can't wait to play MW2 with my thumb and index finger. Pew - pew - pew!
Personally, even when i don't own a xbox360, i wish that natal will be sold as a separated add-ins, for less than $50 and with all the promised features.
But, i don't think it is possible and this news sound more like a fanboy's wishlist rather a real fact.
In any case, MS said (slip) that Natal will need more horsepower, hence they suggested a new console (or may be a more expensive device, for example the hideous box used in the natal presentation). But MS is enough smart to known that if they announce a future console, then they literally kill the sales of the current console.
So, for marketing purpose, the idea to "leak" a false promise of a cheap gadget can increase the sales of the xbox360 during this xmas.
the box used in that demo is a xbox 360 devkit, and they are BEAUTIFUL.
Until I actually see this thing being used in a wide library of games I actually want to play, this will firmly remain in the Sega Genesis 32X realm. Same goes for Sony's controller.
I'm still pissed off at their bulshit demo with the kid. First of all there is no software that can create a kids voice like that and secondly there is no software that can understand human speech and sentence structure like that. Obvious conclusion is that the kids side was pre recorded. That's fine but they totally presented it as if it was a life demo.
That's far from the only demo of Natal. If you don't like that one, go on YouTube and there are 10 or 15 videos of various celebs and sports stars playing Natal at E3. I'm sure there will be plenty more demonstrations before it comes out in a year as well. Everyone will know what it is and isn't capable of.
I'm sure Natal will be great. I'm all for it, that and other devices like it on other systems. I just hate the way companies treat us like we are absolutly frikkin stupid.
It's bad enough that the phrase 'Let's get outta here' appears in over 70% of all movies. It's worse that movie makers think that most of us can't play chess so they think that the hero/anti hero drifting through a room and moving one chess piece in the middle of a game beetween two advanced players and achieving a checkmate move that they somehow couldnt see. It's worse that Movies and TV shows have re used the same Zimmeman/Tony Scott millitary score litterally hundreds of times with hardly a variation to the composition. It's even worse that console makers have stuck to joypads that can't be used for aiming in even single player games let alone MP games. But i draw the line at being expected to buy it that a computer can re create a childs natural human speech not only in sound but in the as yet impossible to achieve comprehension of even basic sentences.
Game companies and companies in general really do believe that the majority of their customers are as thick as pigshit. Some maybe but most are educated. Even worse that they pulled that insulting bullshit in front of media and industry types; who i have to say didn't seem to object to the bullshittyness of it. It's as insulting and patronising as M jackson expecting us to believe that he could father lilly white children.
o no, microsoft is running into wii's territory! Impuse buy espananza. Nintendo better watch out!
