Motorola's MT710 OPhone for China makes us dream of Droids without keyboards
While it's busy trying to rebuild market share on the backs of Android-powered devices in North America and Europe, Motorola's already got a bustling business in China, so it makes sense that they'd want to contribute some Google juice over there as well. That dovetails nicely with China Mobile's Android-based Open Mobile System -- which runs those so-called OPhones -- and Motorola has yet to bring an OPhone to market, so that's where this little beast appears poised to come into play. The MT710 is said to feature an 854 x 480 display clocking in at 3.7 inches and 3G support (using China Mobile's up-and-coming TD-SCDMA network), but beyond that, little is known; rumor has it that Motorola will intro a total of seven Android models in China over the next year, though, and this is clearly one of them. Shave three or four millimeters off the Droid's girth with this puppy, and count us in.

Eh, you may be right on that one, but who cares, this has nothing to do with the iphone. And assuming you are talking about the no keyboard thing, the iphone was not the first all touch screen/ no keyboard phone... so shut up.
why this guy not banned yet ? worst troll on engadget.
My 2003' Motorola was a keyboardless touchscreen smartphone with 3G and GPS.
Well, that pic makes me rather dream of ThinkPads from IBM...
Up to date IBM Thinkpads?
DROOL
yummy looking.
yummy looking. i'd like one for verizon plz~ d ( ' > ' ) b
but obviously we have the droid, so I'm satisfied either way
Reminds me a little bit of those old Chocolate 2 pics...
So the grass is always greener on the other side? It either needs a keyboard or it doesn't. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
So called Ophones are made for China Mobile's home brew TD-SCDMA network. With keyboard or not, it would not work anywhere out of China mobile's coverage, unless you choose to used it as a GSM phone.
I love my iPhone but that Ophone is damn sexy. That should have been the Droid.
according to my friend that works @ google there is in fact a KEYBOARDLESS Droid w/ a faster processor working the rounds in the google labs
I would take a DROID without a keyboard. Moto, bring it to vzw!
I totally see what you're saying but the keyboard is great for certain apps so you have total real estate
and seeing as how I would be playing games and stuff on trains, commutes, etc.
ever seen a gameboy advance emulator on a my touch? they stink
There is an on screen keyboard just like the iphone as well as the hardware one. You could never pull out the hardware keypad if you wanted to and the functionality would be the same.
Engadget Yesterday: "DROID coming out, touchscreen with a full qwerty keyboard! It's awesome because you can type with buttons!"
Engadget Today: "DROID coming out, no qwerty keyboard! It's awesome because it has no keyboard and you can type without buttons!"
+1
I agree, that editor should have put "me" not "us". I don't understand how anyone can not want a physical keyboard. I haven't used the droid but anything is better than nothing, for sure.
I was thinking the same exact thing!
the Droid without keyboard is the TABLET, that one is going to T-MO, I wanna get it there, 8mpx camera, Android 2.0, this will be great
"Google juice"??
Um, no thanks, man. I'm good.
Another so so in an endless loop of cell phone releases. Make something big for once.
yeah thanks motorola now wha will I do with droid
I know exactly what I will do with my Droid. I will keep it for a year and get something new. In the meantime I am going to get all cozy and lovey with Android 2.0 and have my way with it a few times over. Then and only then I will ditch the *itch for a new girl whose got some new bells and whistles.
This phone looks tasty as hell, and I want it fer Verizon.
Gib nao, MOTO, gib nao.
OPhone reminds me of KIRF. . come up with better names . . . .
oh, look, a neverending sentence:
"The MT710 is said to feature an 854 x 480 display clocking in at 3.7 inches and 3G support (using China Mobile's up-and-coming TD-SCDMA network), but beyond that, little is known; it's said that Motorola will intro a total of seven Android models in China over the next year, though, and this is clearly one of them."
You have never read academic texts, huh? You have no idea what endless sentences are!
There's a side-flip version of this thing for GSM land coming soon. Physical keyboard, dual displays and all. Watch for it. :)
