Sony's VAIO Bluetooth Laser Mouse pictured in the wild, almost as ugly as last week's OpenOfficeMouse
While it may not sport the same egregious number of buttons and blue and white aesthetics as last week's affront to ergonomics, Sony's VGP-BMS80 VAIO Bluetooth Laser Mouse certainly doesn't offer much better looks. It does, however, allow for wireless control of either a PC or a PS3 and, with an optical sensor on top, can be used in the air like a trackpad or on a flat surface like a mouse -- a place where that "bar of soap" design will surely not do your carpal tunnels any favors. It's available now at various internet destinations and, if you're still interested, about $80 will get you into this party.

fail.
mm good slice of Sony tax there!
ts a bar of soap and a....sock?
I think it is a ... shoe ... for ... aibo ...
More Sony failure. That company is just full of fail.
Pretty bad, isn't it? When a company is usually known for it's beautiful design, crap like this stands out like a sore thumb. I'm not sure who they let design this pile, but move him/her back to the cubicle in the basement...
I like the concept... Poor execution IMO.
good lord
sony usually designs sexy hardware, their current bluetooth mouse is good looking. what is this!?
Yuck! This thing shouldn't bear the Vaio name.
Sony's still awesome though,
I wouldn't wanna get into that party at all!
Shame it doesn't function as a laser pointer, though. It looks like it could handle that load.
(Wait for it... wait for it...)
Where's the mouse?
And what's that thing on the picture?
/s
It looks diseased :S
Nice job on picking the worst picture of the lot to showcase, Engadget. The rest of the pictures in the link are much easier on the eyes. But judging by those other images, the mouse doesn't seem much more ergonomic.
At least it's got more than 1 button...
Looks like a roadkill.
It looks like it'd be from the original Star Wars movies
Here is the mouse from the new starwars movies...

Maybe its upside down in the picture :)
@Willen: you're right, I clicked on the pictorial and it looks much better on the other pics. I would've never given it a second glance without your comment. It doesn't look pretty on those other pictures, mind you, just acceptable but Engadget predictably chose the worst of the lot.
In other news: in a week Apple introduces the "first" mouse with Air mode and is hailed as revolutionary by Engadget.
FUGLY!
it looks more orientated towards use with powerpoint presentations than say gaming to me.
I would call this a KIRF, but I'm not sure what this is supposed to KIRF. Diabetic sensors? Ergonomic projector remotes? Old Rio MP3 players? Not a clue.
It's like an Apple Mighty Mouse and a laptop clicker had a lovechild with downs.
I love how Engadget picked the absolute worst picture of it to give the Sony haters here some wanking material.

Still UGLY

Looks like a damn car remote key fob... still ugly.

Ugly as ever
Face it I doubt there are any pictures out there that make this thing look good, but seeing the previous generation of Sony Vaio Bluetooth Laser mice its clear Sony styles has absolutely no style what so ever.
HO MY GOD!!!
Massive fail,
Fire those people, they are evil!!!
In defence of the OpenOffice mouse, it atleast had purpose for its short comings on looks, this thing is just plain and simply ugly and serves no other purpose other than being an over priced mouse.
Someone more with more Photoshop talent than me (which means just about everyone) needs to replace the V and the O in VAIO with an F and an L

Why does that picture make it look like it was run over by Optimus Prime himself
Sony
Make. Believe. That Ugly Can Be Nice.
I hope this isn't as bad as the Apple Mighty or Magic Mouse
Someone please answer me this: I had a Mighty Mouse for months and the tracking was only accurate to about 2-3 pixels, on a good mouse pad. I got excited when the Magic Mouse came out a few weeks ago, hoping they would've solved the tracking issue, and the tracking was exactly the same. In Photoshop on a 1920x1080 monitor I need tracking accurate to the pixel. I currently use a Logitech MX518 OPTICAL mouse and it is accurate beyond words, despite being in heavy service since about 2004. Is it the bluetooth or the laser? I've never used another BT mouse except my brother's Logitech pocket mouse very briefly and come to think of it, the tracking wasn't too amazing on that either. That was a laser I think, not Optical.
don't drop the soap..
i think i saw this thing in the hands of Jar-Jar Binks in Episode I..looks like a communication prop from a sci-fi movie
While it's not beautiful in the conventional sense, I'm surprised to see this lumped into the same category as that unofficial OpenOffice eyesore.
This is a dual-function pointing device, so it's not going to look like a regular mouse. The additional buttons lend themselves to a variety of remote-type functions. The layout of the additional buttons is at the very least innovative, which is more than I can say for that button-grid monster from last week.
That said, it's awfully feminine, and the colors make me think of 2002-ish VAIO stuff.
THERES MY GARAGE DOOR OPENER. I WAS LOOKING FOR THAT ALL WEEK!
If you buy two, you can have some fancy footwear!
But then you'd have two chunks of plastic to dispose of...
