Archos 9 PMP sneaks into the FCC, gets dissected when caught
Archos has already made it abundantly clear that its Windows 7-based Archos 9 media player is US-bound, but just in case you were worried over legalities, this FCC filing should crank your stress level down a notch. Best of all, this particular entry includes external and internal photographs, meaning that the camera-toting employees within the deep, dark FCC labs are actually credited with handling the (admittedly messy) dissection. Shocking pixels await you in the read link, so make sure you go in fully prepared.

do I see a sim card slot in those internal photos?
Very sharp eyes, that is absolutely a SIM card slot. If you look at the first picture of the internal views, right there in the center of the top picture - a SIM card socket.
I thought I did, but I don't see any modem in there at all...
thought it was an SD card slot, until you see the 6 contact pins
Why was that emissions test done in Germany? Did you notice that the report is a German company Dudde? and the same company took the tear down pictures?
What the FCC now has to outsource to other countries for their work?
States in the user manual that:
"The Archos 5g or Archos device equipped with wireless cellular connectivity (including with accessories) can be considered in the class of devices as a portable “Telephone”. That is, it uses the same frequencies and technologies as mobile telephones."
I thought it was just to be a media player.
Thought this thing was supposed to run Win7? The FCC pics show XP.
I think it's advertised to run Win7 too.
It looks like a DIY kit or something.
I think the word is "vivisected", as the device was probably alive when the dissection occurred.
Thanks for the pics. I was kind of excited about this product but now after seeing the back and how it's constructed, I will keep waiting for the next incarnation of the webpad.
Looks pretty standard to me, what did you expect, magic and hamster wheels?
Yeah, I totally trust that URL...
wonders WHY ARE LAPTOPS SO BIG!?
Is your cat making TOO MUCH NOISE all the time?
When I see an Archos, I just add two zeroes to the end of the model number. Seriously, too damn expensive.
at $600, it's probably one of the cheaper UMPCs out there, sure it's not netbook cheap, but they sell netbooks too
