Xperia X10 launching February 2010 in UK, says Sony Ericsson site
Sony Ericsson UK's got a new pre-registration page for the Xperia X10, and along with it what appears to be a brand new, February 2010 expected launch. It's hard to say for sure, but as far as we can tell this page is new, and last we heard the target window was a much broader "first half 2010." Can't say we're anymore excited about this than before, but far be it for us to get in the way of a truly die hard fan community. At least you have a better idea of when to break the bank now.

If you were trying to do this ":P" then do it later because Jobs doesn't feel up for a BJ today.
Regardless of what you think about Rachael, this is still the best Android phone ever in terms of hardware. Just flash it with stock 2.0 and you'll be fine.
Yeah, usually things that come out in the future have better hardware. I'm getting a time machine in 2011, but the models in 2013 are so much better.
I have not used this phone but the little buttons towards the bottom of the front look extremely difficult to press one handed. So IDK about that "best Hardware" claim.
1ghz snapdragon, 8mp camera. 1GB of RAM(or is that storage?).
That is better than any other phone we know about, even the ones that haven't been released yet.
You can't "just flash it", it's not that easy. Every phone has different hardware, which means different driver requirements. Until a developer comes around and "makes it work", you can't just pick up cyanogen and flash any old phone. X10 is going to be a very popular phone so I am sure developers will be working on hacking it. But there are tons of Android phones now, and some of the less popular ones (and less open ones), like the Samsung Moment, probably won't have many developers working on it.
Not to mention if you don't like Rachael you can turn it off, they are nor more then home replacement apps and can be turned off so that all you see is stock android.
I guess the Wii must have surprised you, eh Jol?
This is the first time i've ever seen SE release a phone this quickly i guess they learned somthing
Until now every single attempt by SE to produce a smartphone has resulted in an unmitigated disaster.
The X1 turned out to be the worst win mobile phone ever, with the Satio they adopted Symbian S60 (God knows why) and managed again to make the worst S60 phone bar none.
Remember that both those tragicomic attempts were hotly anticipated and generated a lot of positive buzz right up to the moment when someone could actually try them.
Now SE is giving Android a try and I whish them the best luck also because as soon as a Snapdragon Android smartphone shows up in Europe I will replace my beloved Hero, but considering the precedents I find it very hard to be optimist.
I really hope to be deadly wrong of course, maybe third time really is lucky, and this X10 looks as cool as cool can get; but somehow I feel confident that even in the unlikely event that SE finally manages to produce a competitive (or even just a working) smartphone, HTC´s Passion and Moto's Milestone will both reach the European shores before it, they will both prove to be better choices and in the end it will be one of those to end up in my pocket.
Last time I had an Ericsson phone (Sony did'nt yet join it) it must have been about 10 years ago and my T28i (I actually had 2 of them) was the most desired phone on the planet, and I still have fond memories of it.
If the X10 proves to be a decent handset I may well give it a chance, but not before I have read a few enthusiastic "hand on" reports from reliable sources: this is a company that when it comes to high end smartphones, has to rebuild its reputation from scratch.
@ Matthew
Don't think that is true....but I could be wrong. Every single phone has to start with a base version of Android that it works on 100% before adding its own software updates/customizations. They have to make sure their hardware is 100% supported by Android, which has nothing to do with the fancy updates SE puts on it with its own version.
Technically you should be able to flash the phone with a no frills version of Android that it was built on...and be fine
I believe I will stick with my Droid, but this interests me none-the-less. Does it seem like Europe is getting all the android love to anyone else but me?
Yeah, that's what happens if Europe is concidered a proving ground for Android.
It may be me, but in the UK particularly, Sony Ericsson is always favoured over Motorolla, and even Nokia in some occasions, I assume people here would go for X10 than the Droid and I am pretty confident many would agree with me..
I agree with Aino. +1
Everybody I know has had a problem with an SE, usually the plastic on them cracks or they just crumble.
I would hope for SE's sake they are releasing in Feb '10, they're becoming very good at bringing products to the market, after everyone else has already released a similar device and grabbed a new chunk of the market.
Yeah, they show off a prototype version of the product and then the competition goes "oh that's quite good" designs, builds and releases their own version before the SE version is out... which kinda results in people buying the competitors product instead, as it's usually cheaper.
Nonetheless, I'm moving to the UK early/mid Feb next year and will need a new phone, so this would be excellent timing :P
The US gets no love from Sony-Ericsson yet again
Maybe they just don't want to bother with all the different networks/frequencies inside ONE country alone...
Or it could just be that despite the Sony bit in the name it is very much a European company?
Hope the us gets it around there too! There is a huge lack of 3G andriod devices for AT&T from main steam retailer here...hoping that changes soon!
I'm really interested in this phone but the question on my mind, regardless of Snapdragon's clock speed, is does this phone include a dedicated GPU?
Yes and no. it has a GPU, but it is part of the CPU package, just like almost all other smartphones.
Looking at the videos of Rachael, a processor with a dedicated GPU would have made sense.
Yes, All modern ARM based system-on-a-chip processors from Texas Instruments (OMAP3/4), Qualcomm (Snapdragon, MSM), Samsung, etc come with a dedicated graphics unit.
This includes most early HTC windows mobile phones among others in which the manufacturer actually didn't implement the drivers for the GPU. There are VERY few smartphones released on the market without a dedicated graphics unit in the SoC.
Crappy phone compared to N900 & Droid (/Milestone)...
Compared to Droid? How?
Have you seen the videos?
- They're all showing very laggy GUI.
- It has no qwerty keyboard...
It has a qwerty keyboard, but it's virtual. Besides, that is a personal preference. I don't mind having a virtual kb.
qwerty keyboards add too much bulk
Sure, its personal.
But i like to have both. Besides its shipping in February, by the time this thing hits the shops people arent gonna buy this instead of their HTC HD2, N900 or Droid, which they could have bought months before that?
This has better specs than the n900, and the moto sholes, and a more physically appealing UI than the HD2. I think this phone will most definitely hold it's own.
@Soulsaber
Please change your avatar: it's gruesome and ugly.
@DoorsnotWindows
you best be joking.. zoe is the hottest chick alive.
Acutually, in the most recent videos the lagging is getting less and less annoying...
I wonder if that's the same time that the unlocked version will be released. I'm definitely getting this phone, I just wonder if I should wait for it... I currently don't have a smartphone at all and can't stand it. Thinking of getting the Behold II just to have an android phone and when this is released, resell the Behold II on ebay and get the X10. That's probably what I'll do.
Seen it in action REALLY SLOW I would get it but too slow for me... have on youtube for some clips.
I know it is under development but they want to put too much in it.
Speed issues are now fixed !

Dude, that video is clearly edited in many spots. That might not mean anything,,,,My guess is there were a few lags they did not want us to see.
It would be much better if they would launch it before the holiday shopping season.
HA!
Too bad I already bought a Hero.
Problem with sony is they are usually overpriced, and if that damn phone takes a memory stick you can count me out
Almost certainly it won't .. SE are finally on song with "Standard" Connection/Charging (micro-usb) and memory cards (micro-SD)
Pity they didn't do this for the Satio ..
Interesting they only put 8.1MPix in it.
the satio DOES have micro SD
US release date is not going to be too far from this, the president of SE has said he thinks ignoring world markets and concentrating on the EU one was a mistake, and he said they want to return to the high end phone market. Also if you look at the spec sheet it has US flavoured UMTS which means it should launch there quite soon.
To all the people saying it is slow, just remember it is running pretty hefty debug software in the background as it is just a prototype, there should be plenty of CPU cycles freed up once it goes into retail production.
If it gets here faster than the Nuvifone took to get here, I'll be one happy psychotic killer.
Needs more buttons for games.
This can't play games, it has a camera.
