BlackBerry Internet Service stricken with global outages?

Looks like BlackBerry Internet Services is having a rough night, with a number of sites reporting it being down not just in North America, but also elsewhere around the world. A handful of tipsters have expressed similar issues, and though we've had some weirdness with our service tonight, it seems to be working well enough. So tell us, how's BIS doing for you tonight?

I think my email is still coming through, though seems delayed a bit. Facebook app can't connect to server and looks like WeatherBug is a no-go as well. Huzzah....
It's been down for me on T-Mobile most of the day. I love Blackberry, but why must they send web browsing and other data through their proxy server? I understand email going through their servers, but other data? Why?
Switching to "Hotspot Browser" worked today (which directs browsing through wi-fi direct to the internet.) Why don't they program the browser for smarter connectivity ie always choose the fastest available connection with no toggling in the end user's part?
So many questions...
It's more secure and no blocked sites. The BB browser was the only way I could get on a number of websites when I was in China, and a number of standalone apps would have been blocked otherwise as well.

Email fine, internet browsing down in SF on Verizon.
And I've been thinking of dumping my SideKick for a Bold 9700 due to the SideKick fiasco! I just can't justify $70 per month for an iPhone or Droid! But this makes me not sure what to do.
yeah, BIS issues tonight w/a blackberry curve. something invalidated one of my accounts as well sometime on Friday (password corruption?) had to reset it tonight. zero issues until today.
Question is why does the browser have to connect via RIMs services? shouldn't it be independent of that?
My email still works, I just can't browse webpages on my CDMA Storm. Likewise for anyone else I've asked tonight, which has been around 10 people.
I just got the new 9700 today and I've been using the phone all day in Des Moines with no problems at all. I'd be pissed if things went down the first day I had a new phone...
No problems on T-Mobile all day here in the central CA valley.
Has been up and down here in Sacramento. Had a customer with a Curve not working but his wife's Curve did. My own Curve was intermittent. But is working right now.
browser seems to work no prob in CT on my verizon bb tour. all 3rd party apps aren't working though.
My Tour is working fine here in SoCal
Could it be the Meteor shower expected sometime tonight?
The service is completely unstable. Bold on Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates.
Well, that explains why when I updated yesterday, had no Email, but Browser, and TweetGenius worked fine. (Then again the latter was quite happy running on WiFi)
Just left work....Email all day of BIS down on iden and CDMA...
Outages like this are exactly why I don't realize why so many people and corporations are so willing to hand their data out to a middleman before reaching their phones.
In London UK on O2, my 9000 is absolutely fine.
That's what it was!!! I was trying to browse and it was forever requesting. I dunno about email though, i don't get much of that.

I wondered what the heck was going on last night!
My wife had intermittent e-mail and web access via BIS. I seemed to still have E-Mail via BES but flakey data service at best.
Both on VZW (Wife has an 8830, I have a Storm).
Seems to be fine this morning...

Great day for the outage! I upgraded to the Bold 9700 at about 7pm PST last night and the service acted buggy for at least 3 hours. Seems to be better this morning, will see how it performs.
Down with Verizon in NY
It was down for me last night (Alberta, Canada) and intermittent this morning, but right this moment it seems fine. When it was down, email, Text, BBM etc... were all working fine (BIS here). Just internet wasn't working.
OT but the updated Movies app for Blackberry by Flixster (version 1.1.6) just isn't working on my Bold, just shows "Loading Movies..." and the spinning reel forever. Wish there was a way to get the old version back which worked fine.
That explains a lot ..
Aw, great. I get out of my Sidekick contract for this.
My storm 2 on verizon has been all weird since yesterday. It keeps saying requesting and never does anything.
AT&T BIS has been fine in Memphis.
