Engadget's Holiday Gift Guide, 2009!

This year, we're taking a new approach to the guide; in the past we've always done the selections by person (him, her, etc.), but we think there's a better way. Starting this year, we're breaking down the guide by product category (smartphones, laptops, TVs and the like), and grouping those picks into price ranges -- so you can find something easily, no matter how much you have to spend. The HGG is a series of smaller guides, but the picks will be collected in a landing page which can be helpfully sorted by price and category. We'll publish a new guide every few days through Christmas, so you'll have plenty of time to shop around online and in stores, and we do suggest you check out all the guides -- especially since you never know when you'll find something you want for yourself.
Enjoy, and happy holidays!
Our guides so far:

woot?
is that a question?
This is how we do it!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah and a fun new gadget for all :)
That reminds me of the Simpsons:
"I wish you a merry Christmas, happy Chanukah, crazy Kwanzaa, tip top Tet, and a solemn and dignified Ramadan."
You forgot about Festivus!
Happy christmakwanzahanukadon! (I know... it sounds like something a DBZ character would say before destroying something with a blast of energy...)
You are so being thatguy.
someone is an apple fan boy huh?
IIRC, last year's guide had lots of gadgets with astronomical price tags attached. I know this is a tech blog, but I'm not sure how many people regularly give gadget gifts at $200 and still consider it a 'budget' gift. Also, how many people routinely gift items over 1k?
I just hope some of these gifts are more realistic than last years...
I give gifts in those price ranges, to myself!
Right, but this guide assumes people are buying gifts for others...
my budget is around 50-100, so please engadget keep it low
Engadget, PLEASE listen to Rick James!
@Rick James they didnt listen to you...
Will there still be a section dedicated to the technophobic? Most of my family will fit in that category and yet I still want to pull them kicking and screaming into this century.
@Ghen A GPS system is always a nice option for people who want technology without needing to read a manual. Most units on the market are very user friendly and they don't need to be plugged into a computer.
@Ghen What you need is a gift guide that lets you know what women really think - http://www.magnetfactor.com has you covered!
Nice to see the change to product categories, should make the guides more useful, although only doing one every few days through to christmas might negate that a bit. The closer you get to the big day the less likely people are going to want to wait before they make a decision on what to buy. Would be nice to see you guys getting them all up by say the end of November as that would actually give people time to buy the stuff.
Was browsing Engadget 2004 and I found this:

Aww...
P.S: The oldest Engadget post is in page 2932.
@Aguiluz
LOL, what a gadget. Thanks i was wondering how many pages did Engadget have
Happy Chrismahanukwanzakah!
Chrismahanukwanzakah
GO AWAY!!!!!
-thankyou.
Christmas, huh!
Thanksgiving did not even happen yet.
Retailers are desperate to get sales. I say let me go down in flames.
Nice typo, sir. :P
Too bad you cannot give an Apple iPhone as a gift... as they allways want you to sign a contract.
Will there be a guide for pico projectors? Those things have me baffled.
Merry Christmas.
Festivus for the rest of us!
The gift guides are fun but does anyone actually use them to assist in picking out gifts?
@JD
The fanboys on Engadget are so extreme, that "thatguy" is probably a Windows fanboy, acting like an Apple fanboy to give Apple users a bad image.
Why so slow Engadget? ArsTechnica published their gift guide today. It's pretty sweet. I'd better not see any duplicates in your guide... gotta live up/down (depending on your perspective of course) to your usual standards.
And we put comments under each article and someone wins the item(s) described? Is that how it works?
But what will happen to "Gift for Enemy"???
Where is the actual link to the guide itself?
You forgot two things PMPs and Video Game consoles
plus i cant think of anyone who would want a eBook reader, i know they have been selling like crazy but i have no idea why
When will the actual guide be up?
You, big E, need to get these guides moving. Black Friday is nearly here. I value the reviews here and want to be armed going into that day specifically. Right now we have GPS and E-Book readers. Good, but there is so much more needed.
Seriously- Where are the rest of the guides? i saw the cell phones one at some point, and it is not listed here... whats up with that?
HELHOELEHO iw antt hi splazzzz
thanks, for the interesting guide
Its a great guide guys, but if you could put a link back to the "hub" at the bottom of each section it would really help usability. thanks.
As always, interesting finds here. Thanks!
If you are looking for some more offbeat gifts for your loved ones this year, definitely check out this site -- pretty funny:

I think the "Laptops" link is broken.
@Turino Yeah, the Laptops link is missing a colon. Here's the correct link:

This item just screams perfect stocking-stuffer. It combines education with recreation. I know this has been featured before on this site, but can anyone tell me where to buy one? I'm convinced the product exists, but Trekstor refuses to sell it...

The laptop link does not work
