Headtime scalp massager massages scalps, blows minds
Say what you will, but we love the idea of having a tireless automaton massaging our overworked noggins. And, since human slavery was outlawed a good while ago, our only choice left is modern technology. Enter the Headtime scalp massager, produced by Kinatech. This outsized helmet has an array of 29 silicone balls for acupressure and 34 ceramic ones for... well, we don't actually know. There's an internal speaker with the soothing sounds of nature, as well as a temperature controller, which suggests this bad boy could serve as a pretty awesome cranium heater as well. Do yourself a favor and check out the rather threatening looking inside of the helmet after the break.

On my head sir? Not in my strangest nightmare!!!
Hmmmmmm, what if they styled it like this?

Well that takes helmet hair to a whole new level.
Looks like Dark Helmet's long lost sister
I have nothing good to add, except that I literally fell out of my chair after reading your comment. It's not THAT funny, but it just cought me off guard!
For some reason I'm being reminded of the helmets on Space Balls.

Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.
Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.
Head on. Apply directly to the forehead.
Don't think you could PAY me to wear that.... Well, maybe, but you better start the bidding high!
Dress it up like a headcrab and I'm there.
Okay . . .
#1 The inside of that thing looks like a lamprey's mouth. Not very reassuring.
#2 You'll need a neck massage after you hold this thing on your head for a while.
Well it's pretty cool, and you don't have to sit upright all the time, ya know. You can also lie back and use it.
that's what she said?
Yuck! I'm not sticking my head in there.

The neck massager is in development!
@Why should I have all the fun
That is the most freeky thing i think i've ever seen.
Headtime scalp massager massages scalps, blows minds.
Is it just me, or does it sound like they TRIED to fit in that much innuendo.
They should call it a headcrab, then bunches of nerds would buy it.
Paint on some teeth, add some plasticine legs=profit
Hey, what's this? . . . It's a brain sucker! . . . Do you know what it's doing? . . . Starving!
I'm hoping it has silicone balls, not silicon balls. Uncomfortable otherwise.
Can't sleep. Head massager will eat me
/rocks back and forth
jared, its NEVER okay to joke about slave labor, about any ethnic races. its a unsightly scar on the history of us as humans. i agree the slavery part turned me off, i hope they put something funny/witty, and less...disturbing...
I would consider removing the slavery line from the article. It implies something that I don't think you intended. Other than that, keep up the good work!
+1
I thought the same thing. The slavery line is definitely inapproproiate.
i think if references to Stalin and the like are still socially acceptable, so should slavery references, does the fact that this particular evil happened to be carried out by us make it more taboo?
I'm with atevenson on this one. I think we're at a point where bringing up slavery should no longer be a sore spot. it happened, can't deny it, might as well make jokes about it.
Actually, slave labor is alive and well...and apparently highly desireable to U.S. corporations! Whodathunkit?
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/11/12/business-worried-child-labor/
Gotta agree. It sounded off.
jared, let me know when it's okay to make jokes about the Holocaust, according you your highly attuned social barometer.
Also, let me know the next time you have a good laugh with a group of African-Americans about how its so great that we can laugh at slavery now.
Human slavery existed long before the British colonies, heck, long before the Saxons settled on the British Isles.
...and here comes the civilian Touchy Thought Police. Sic 'em! RRarrwrwrrrrRR! :)
(Or is this too soon after the Michael Vick thing? Imagine him using dogs as slave labor.) I'm sure Engadget will apologize to you commenters who were once enslaved... it is a horrible crime, for sure, so those of you arguing, let the editors know who you are so you can get JUSTICE.
I'd think that device would snag up long hair? It sounds very cool,
Connecting my reference to slavery to the particular American experience of it happened purely inside your minds. I'm Bulgarian, and my nation was enslaved by the former Ottoman Empire for 500 years. If I can have a sense of humor about it, so can you.
I made a suggestion, plain and simple. I never demanded that you remove that line. Vlad, just because you can have a sense of humor about slavery doesn't mean the rest of us have to. Pj...you're an idiot. You really are.
Well said Vlad, everyone else, remove the stick from your anuses and get over it.
Vlad, point taken, but as a Bulgarian, you're also not part of a minority that still struggles with institutional racism in a country where you can look up your ancestor's bill of sale.
Sorry Hank, I can't hear you down here at the base of your pedestal while you fight for your causes. Your passive-aggressive comment is classic "attack but not really attack".
You made the comment for a reason. If you didn't want the comment to be acted upon, then why say it at all? Because you wanted a change in the wording. Stick by your conviction, don't back-pedal when you're called out. Or don't say anything at all that you won't stick up for. Whether you are "for" telling people what they can say, or you aren't. And yes, I will agree: I am definitely an idiot.
While your at it, please don't mention: (..in no particular order)
* Piracy on the high seas
* any war
* dinosaur extinction sized meteors
* The Dust Bowl
* References to any hurricane/tornado/tsunami
* The "Great Depression"
* Cannibalism
* Siberia
* The Crusades
* Tibet
* The Holocaust
* The Dark Ages
* The Black Plague
* US/Carnegie Steal work camps
* Chinese labor conditions
* Genghis Khan
* anything that might have had an adverse affect on a numerous amount of people
I forgot how to stick their head in the ground and ignore all the horrors of this world. Think of the children!
I have to agree with Hank, and I'd add that no one really pointed out what the issue with the line is. Astevenson2200 said "i think if references to Stalin and the like are still socially acceptable, so should slavery references...") It's not that a reference to slavery was made, it was the fact that the author (jokingly) implied that he would use human slavery had it not been outlawed "a good while ago". I could definitely see how this is morally offensive to some people.
Now personally I'm not even offended by the joke, but if you're representing an entire website as big as engadget, you have to realize that a good portion of people are.
Hair ripping out optional.
No mandatory!
Finally, a dedicated device that will make my headtime more efficient.
you idiot.
This thing doesn't look like a scalp massager it looks like it harvests brain tissue IMHO
Really buddy? Really? Hate to break it to you, I'm allowed to interpret the shape of something even though it may not match your moronic opinion. Get over yourself, junior.
Happy, happy, joy, joy
Cross my heart, strike me dead, stick a lobster on my head.
Doesn't it look like those brain swtich/mind control machines from old cartoons? Just..scarier?
Is the helmet protector protector an available accessory?
Nothing like a good slavery joke first thing Monday morning. Thanks, engadget!
