HTC Hero, Samsung Moment now $100 on Sprint courtesy of Best Buy
Leaning back and forth between the $100 HTC Eris on Verizon and the $179 HTC Hero on Sprint? Well, your decision just got a bit more difficult, as Best Buy has now kicked off a new holiday promotion that'll net you a chin-less Sprint Hero for the same hundred bucks as Verizon's Eris. If you prefer, you can also now snag a Samsung Moment for the same price, but each will of course have to be paired with a new two-year activation, and you'll have to take the plunge before the end of December -- although there's at least a decent chance there will be another discount / price drop by the time this one ends.

damn that sucks for me after i paid 75 more
This is only with new accounts.
They did have another $50 discount on the Hero bringing it to $129 that ended on Nov 2 though.
@jason: welcome to the world of gadgets.Just when you buy something, it goes on sale somewhere the next day. I got it for $179 too.
damn... me too.
i just bought the sprint hero LAST WEEK, 5 days ago.
and here's an 80 dollar price drop...
:(
that's fine and all but what the hell is google grey?
I thought it was google ghey.
Probably the same people whi call things "iPod White"
The day corperations get a patent on a shade will be the day I start a revolt.
who is with me!?
@THJ
because homophobia makes you cool, right?
Read it as "HTC Hero with Google. Grey. For Sprint PCS."
Watch out, Crayola! Your stock is dropping next!
Simply missing a dash.
HTC Hero With Google - Grey
"Google Grey"
So thats whats those damn kids are calling sense UI nowadays...
i think google grey is the color of the phone
i don't mean to sound like a troll calling "first" but damn it all if i didn't call a price drop to compete with the eris like 2 weeks ago on here
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/11/05/verizons-droid-eris-by-htc-does-android-and-keeps-it-cheap/
only difference is this is best buy's doing and not officially through sprint
You just have to be 'thatguy' :P
actually, based on the layout, it's "courtesy of Simplexity" and not really Best Buy
So I have a question to ask all of you. My mom is switching us from VZW to Sprint, and because I am in college and poor, I would like to stay on the family plan. I have convinced her to get the data plan from sprint, but I am torn as to what phone to get. I like the idea of the pre but am far from impressed with the hardware (I don't see it lasting a whole 2 years) and I don't like the keyboard, but I am not sure if extended use would change my mind on that. The Hero looks appealing but I hate sluggish phones. I like blackberries and would consider getting the new curve, but their web browser is so terrible.
I would be mostly using the phone for email, lots of texting and web browsing.
So basically, which sprint phone would you choose out of all them?
The Hero or Moment are the ones to get at the moment. They're not that sluggish and should be perfectly zippy when 2.0 is released.
2.0 on the Moment has not been confirmed, but it's likely to happen either officially or via hack. Get the Moment if you want a keyboard, get the Hero if you want something a bit slimmer.
droid, kid. don't switch to a worse network with worse phones.
@AndroidRockz:
Because Verizon is the absolute best network evar? Um no, Sprint gets significantly better coverage in my area. Stop spreading this shit about how Sprint sucks because it doesn't (I've had both Verizon and Sprint). The only way you can knock it is if the coverage in your area sucks, in which case you should've checked to see which carrier had the best service there. Switching from Verizon to Sprint improved my phone, lowered monthly cost, and improved service. Sprint is hella cheap compared to Verizon, which competes in price with AT&T. Long gone are the days when Sprint's service sucked ass everywhere. As far as phones, the Hero/Eris are almost exactly the same, and Droid is not leaps and bounds above the other Android phones from what I've heard, and I wouldn't want a hardware keyboard.
Hero is awesome (and rooted).
The Tour is nice, so is the Pre BTW.
The lagginess in the Pixi seems to be from some bug with EVDO as opposed to the phone actually being slow, so you might want to wait and see. It has a nicer keyboard than the Hero, a much better browser than the BBs and better build quality than the Pre.
I have the Hero and even with the 7 homescreens loaded up with widgets, it is NOT sluggish and only has a hiccup or second of slowdown rarely.
I'm very picky with my phones and have gone through a lot of them. I just came from a 3GS, which we all know runs very snappy.
The Hero is awesome. Sense UI is amazing. It's a great, great phone. I highly recommend it, it's the best phone Sprint has right now.
Touch Pro 2... anybody???
You can mod the hell out of it, the HTC skin nicely covers most of WM's failings.
Acceptable size screen, good keyboard and Opera browser.
My touch pro is rock solid.
I'm happy to stick with it till I can get my mits on an HD2.
Awesome. I told a friend to buy a samsung moment last week and he loves it. I showed him this, he called best buy, and they're refunding him $80 for his purchase. Doesn't get much better than that.
According to the website, this is for new activations only.
Will this be available for existing subscribers who want to upgrade their phones and sign a new 2 year deal?
My buddy who is getting $80 back on the samsung moment he bought for 179.99 last week upgraded his old phone to the moment with a new 2 year contract. So I would imagine it would work for you too.
I looked into this and it's the same old $179 for existing customers.
Ok, now I've got a dilemma--maybe someone here could help me out:
So my contract with AT&T is up and I wanted to switch to Sprint--I liked the Hero, but not enough to spend $179 for the Hero when I could get the Pre for $99 through amazon (I know, I know...this means virtually nothing over the course of a 2 year contract). So I ordered the Pre from Amazon with the Everything 450 plan. And then I saw this story...
Basically, what I need to know is, can I return the phone to Amazon, keep the plan, and still get the subsidized ($99) Hero from Best Buy?
Uh, probably. What you could try and do is buy the Hero, and then ask them to swap your plan on to your "new phone" and then return the Pre back to Amazon.
So from what I understand sprint allows customers a 30 day trial on new phones/contracts and you can return the phone (but I heard there is a $30 fee of some sort I am not sure about). Anyway I'm not sure about your case though since you ordered through amazon...is it through a third party seller? or an actual authorized sprint store?
Why not stick with the Pre?
see if you can cancel EVERYTHING before the phone comes, or if it comes, ASAP. make it such that you were never a sprint customer, then go ahead and get the hero
Stick with the Pre....you won't regret it
Wow these phoness both suck get droid instead
Why? I mean yea the droid is a little faster than the moment, and if you want verizon then sure thats fine. But thats really all it has on the other android devices. The moment is probably the second fastest android phone, has a much better keyboard than the droid, and has sprint which is a pretty reliable network, but also will save you a lot of money over the course of two years because of how affordable their plans are. Oh and I guess the droid is the first android device with 2.0... which is cool... but other devices will get that soon enough.
Seriously. DROIDDOES!
*sigh* iPhone trolls part 2...
*Waits for a real price drop on the Hero*
The Sprint version of this phone is my favorite :D
When you get a better phone I will re-sign Sprint.
Hero is nice but its just a slow as my two year old Sprint touch.
Moment is faster but its chubby and lacks HTC's improvements to android.
Please give me a better phone Sprint.. soon?
Hopefully something like the new Sony Ericcson Experia X10? Or HTC HD2?
Preferably HTC HD2 with Android yes?
BIG SCREEN.. THIN.. NO KEYBOARD?
2010 ish processor not 2008 ish processor... understand????
And no the Palm Pre IS NOT an option.. not...even... remotely...close
After seeing the HD2, it is very hard to get anything less. If I had to settle, i'd want the TG01 or the new xperia - course you can't get any of them on Sprint. Sprint has decided to focus on cheap phones for cheap business users and teens. There aren't any real phones on their network.
@boe - No Xperia because SE has never made a CDMA phone. Not exactly Sprint's fault.
Actually, SE *DID* make a CDMA phone for Sprint... the old beloved T608!
check out gaugewireless.com Palm Pixi 69.99, if your looking at buying one of those. And that's after instant rebate...no mail in crud.
this may be a dumb question because it is running android, but the moment does have MS exchange integration, right?
Yes, it uses Moxier Mail to provide exchange email, calendar, and contact support.
No thanks to me, Engadget? I sent this in to you this morning.
this is complete bullshit. maybe a link to the best buy website would work, not a useless fake new article.
someone please send link to but the phone for !100
Here is the link: http://wireless.bestbuy.com/mobile/sprint.aspx?referringdomain=bestbuy3
Anybody know if TMO has any plans to get serious about Android? They were the oirginal Android carrier after all. And theyve had over a year head start on the competition....yet 3 of their 4 android phones have 192mb ram or less, while none of their competition, who are completely new to Android offer anything less than what, 256mb ram? plus all of TMO's phones are way more expensive than the much better phones which their competition offers, i used to be mad about it but when you think about it, its so utterly outrageous that its just hysterical. I mean its like a few junior school kids got together and founded a "super neato phone club" and called it "T-Mobile"
Positive! The stock will be shrinking later as the iphone did?
Question on both Sprint Hero and Moment: Is it easy to use Google Voice on these? I know they are Google Android phones, but I thought I read somewhere that Sprint wasn't letting it work on some phones.
FYI...
Sprint Moment and Palm Pre on sale at Amazon for $79.99 (when purchased with new service plan). They don't seem to sell the HTC Hero.
I have an att contract that ends during the summer but it fing SUCKs and i want this phone now.
can i get out without paying the termination fee? im down for all the sneaky devilish ways as long as im out
