'Wink' USB flash drive: perfect for hockey moms, lipstick-laden pigs
Active Media Products isn't one to shy away from mildly ludicrous USB flash drive designs, but it may want to snag a lawyer on retainer for this one. Granted, there's at least a sliver of a chance that Sarah Palin was actually notified that her image would be used to market AMP's new "Wink" USB flash drive, but chances are she's being rudely introduced to the sobering truth just as we are. Hailed as the planet's smallest 16GB thumb drive, this waterproof slab of memory is also available in a few smaller sizes for those unconcerned with gaining political clout. It measures in at just 1.2- x 0.5- x 0.1-inches, or just marginally smaller than Little Diomede island (which you actually can see Russia from, amazingly enough). It's available now to inspire and encourage starting at $7.95 (2GB), though that 16 gigger we mentioned earlier will set you back $37.95.
P.S. - We didn't Photoshop this image, this is seriously Active Media Products' pitch for this product.

You betcha!
I lol'd too much.
I lol too.
Also she isn't winking. She's got a moose in the sights of her rifle.
Ah man I thought Engadget photoshoped this. lol I can't believe this is a serious effort for them...
I think she's having a stroke
Looks more like, "Hi sailor, come to this port often"?
pew! pew!
Just so we're all super, super clear here, Engadget didn't Photoshop this image. That is literally AMP's image.
And so we're even MORE super clear: I did not vote for, nor endorse Obama in any way, form or fashion during last year's election.
Merry Christmas! You godless SWINE!
@Darren:
hey thanks for clearing that up. after reading the article and the 7 posts above yours, i couldn't help but wonder if:
a) this was an engadget photoshop job or the material AMP will be using (even though it said so in the second sentence.)
b) if Darren voted for, nor endorsed Obama in any way, form or fashion during last year's election.
wow! you saved me a lot of headache! and i'm really glad you unnecessarily chose this forum to share you political practices.
Since they're plastering Palin's face all over this, does that mean that this flash drive will quit working right in the middle of an important job?
As opposed to the big-eared empty suit inoffice that still thinks there are 57 States?
Oh Engadget, why did you invite a political debate with that image....and then gonna tell us you're not Political?
Engadget should simply stay out of politics. Keep this up and I won't be back.
It's not their image...
http://www.activemp.com/USB_drives/wink-micro-pico-usb-flash-drive.htm
It may be political, but they didn't make it so...
The headline is a little misleading but read the article. I think Darren could have made this a little more neutral however its the company who decided to use Palin's image to promote their product. So I'm guessing that the product is the pig? Thats where I think the headline could be altered a little but its the company that should be eviscerated not necessarily Engadget. ....For today at least :)
@Conceyted: Oooooh, I'll bet they're scared now. Palin lovers are so butt-hurt.
why is it political? that is not a shop job from engadget. Now you can't poke fun at a product because they happen to use an inexperienced foot-in-mouth political candidate? democrat or republican, this is funny.
Keep politics off your tech blog asshole. Make a habit of this and I can get my tech info elsewhere.
@Dave: No, McCain's policies are the pig. If you remember from the presidential debates, or a townhall meeting, Obama was answering a question about McCain, and was jabbing at how his policies are the same as Bush's (not discussing the veracity of such a statement). Obama's response to McCain's policy was "you can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig".
The Republican Party, since at the time they were literally sitting around trying to find ways to misconstrue things, decided that, since Obama was running against McCain, and Palin was McCain's partner, and since Palin is a woman, and because women wear lipstick, Obama must be calling her a pig. And, they proceeded to get huffy and offended. Good thing Obama didn't mention the whore of Babylon, or Mother Goose, or anything else that might be misconstrued multiple, multiple times as an attack on her.
@bobartig
I know where the term became popular but I was referencing the article and not some stupid political banter that has no place on this blog. I think the Engadget editors would find this as stupid as an Obama .
Stop it with the political bashing one way or the other. I come here for tech news.
Now can we all go back to making fun of the company doing something this silly?
....at least until they come out with that Teddy Roosevelt fingerprint reader that I have been waiting for :-D
@Dave: Yet you had to say 'as stupid as an Obama'. You want the flaming to stop yet you throw gasoline on it? WTF?
That was a complete mistake because I used arrows and comment system apparently removed them. It was supposed to say (insert inane product here) or something like that.
So totally my bad! I really want to keep my political opinions to myself on this blog and seriously did not intend for that to come off like it and now I feel kinda stupid because I look like a total hypocrite.
Technically, this can in no way be political as Palin isn't a public servant any longer.
Man, I come for the gadgets but stay for the train wrecks...
LOVE the headline, Darren!
2 gigs for 8 bucks seem descent.
I hope this woman runs for president... I loved all the material late night tv got from her.
Doesn't that crazy woman get enough attention already? Please, keep her in the domain of porn, where she actually contributes something to the raising of standards.
oh, but i'd love to have coffee with her!!
I wonder how many people think Sarah Palin (not Tina Fey) said that she could see Alaska from her house...
No but she did say she could see Russia from Alaska. Puts Superman's power to shame.
PALIN POWERS ACTIVATE!! FORM OF IGNORANT TWIT!
Whether or not she said it, I hope to god that she CAN see Alaska from her house.
haha... Russia is what I meant.
and as the author pointed out, Russia CAN be seen from Alaska (Little Diomede Island).
John Doe, you ignorant moron, you CAN see Russia from Alaska!
It even mentions it in the body of THIS article. Try looking at a map of the Diomede Islands, you dolt. In the wintertime, it is even possible to walk between them.
I wonder if people care since that idiot said more stupid things in a three month period than most people do in their life. She also acted way too cavalier in her debate and made Joe Biden look like a dignified vice presidential candidate by comparison.
Her resignation from the Alaska governorship read like something the crazy cat lady came up with. It rambled from lies to the blame game to copping out to pandering with all the coherence of a drunk person with a bad concussion.
The actual quote;
"They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
A lot different from what the media and the general public seems to think she said....no why in the world would that be?
@Bruce R
Because the media is liberal and their pinko commie agenda masked the genius of palin!
It is amazing at the amount of lies and distortions that get told about this woman. Why do they feel the need to personally destroy her? What do they fear about her?
fear?
You DAMN well know what she was talking about. Just because Russia has a left over island in the Bering Strait......I'd bet you a year's salary that she didn't know dick about those Islands. Who is being an idiot now? Dip$h!t. Palin was NOT talking about the island. The idiot was talking about the mainland which even then would be wrong.
@johnduh
And you know this how?
Charles,
Is that what you're clinging to? Seriously? It's like when your mom told you that the other kids just make fun of you because they're jealous. Uhhh yeah, right.
I'd love to see the Republicans find a good smart fiscal conservative, so there would be someone worth voting for. There was a strong hope that after dealing with the not-so-bright and not-at-all-fiscally-conservative GWB, the party would ditch the whole moralizing schtick that appeals to about 10% of the country, and get a real candidate. Utter morons like Palin are just holding you back. Charisma doesn't fix stupid, but it might keep a qualified candidate out of office.
Just so we're clear: People hate her because she's an utter moron. Not because they're afraid of a strong woman.
"What do they fear about her?"
If you have to ask, you don't "get it."
At least she wasn't like that dumbass obama who said there were 57 states.
Idiots need other idiots to look up to.
@fboots
Bwahahaha. "genius" Right...
Go to Wales Alkaska ... Look west .. you can see it Big Diomede island and Little Diomede are only 2 miles apart
she must be thinking "1.2 inches.... *wink* i can still work with that"
Be careful. This model is known for working shoddily for 2 years (or so) before flat out quitting on you.
Yes we get it. You disagree with her opinions, thus she is a pile of $$$$.
