Amazon offers $50 PSN card with PSP Go purchases, for tonight only
Hey impulse buyers, want a PSP Go? Amazon is offering a $50 PSN card for anyone who picks up the portable tonight, in black or white. Seeing as you'll be having to spend that much on digital titles anyway, it's a pretty good long-term $50 discount, bringing the suggested value of the Go to about $195. It's still not as financially sound an option as a PSP-3000, but if you value style over price figures and disc-based media, this might be one of the best incentives before Christmas. Offer ends at midnight PT / 3:00AM ET -- after that, it turns right back into a pumpkin.

Still not worth it. Considering you can get a PSP-3000 and a 16 gb stick for 200$. Then you could buy an extra 5 UMDs with the 50$ you would have spent on PSN.
Seriously
wtf?
Like you said this is the best deal that way you got flash and umd
I have mixed opinions on the PSP GO. I've tried it, seems pretty nice. Processor aged, design nice. Comfortable. $249? Come on. Everyone wants one, everyone in their right mind wants one at a cost they can afford. I'd buy this puppy for $169 with a $30 rebate if subscribed to a the Playstation store. or something to that nature. This is the future of portable gaming, with iPhone / iTouch leading the way for downloading games, but at this price point and this typical Sony stubborn direction / approach, could the end be near for this type of approach?
Still not worth it.
That recessed analog stick is terrible.
@DR
Really?? I've tried it out and found the GO's analog to be much better/more comfortable for fine control than the original psp. I think the GO has a slightly better directional pad to.
Finally, some decent news from Engadget. Although I still love my PSP 1000. It'll do.
To be honest, I've both played and pocketed the PSP Go and I love it, but that price is a huge problem. You can get a 16GB Zune or iPod Touch for $220 and $200 respectively, the former of which is more powerful then a PSP, and the latter of which is nearly as powerful. As far as features are concerned, they also both beat the PSP out in a lot of ways. The fact of the matter is this thing is still technically 5 year old hardware (going from its Dec 04 Japan launch), it isn't aging well at this point, and this price point is not helping.
Now, if you're sure you're going to spend $50 on PSN purchases in the near future, I think this is 100% worth the offer. If you consider this a $200 product (assuming you'd be spending that $50 on games in a short-ish amount of time), then it's an great piece of hardware for that price, and contrary to what others think, it's my opinion that it not only travels well, but also plays very well.
Long story short, anybody who's got $250 chargeable to a debit or credit card, and is looking for a PSP, should probably go jump on this.
The reason why the iPod Touch and Zune suck is because touchscreen controls should be considered to be on par with buttons and joysticks.
However, at this point, I'm not going to bother puchasing a PSP until the next version, which better offer the following things:
1) Touchscreen - in 2009, touchscreen controls have huge benefits over buttons in specific scenarios (note, not ALL scenarios).
2) Dual joysticks (hopefully less recessed this time around)
3) Rumble support (if a phone can have it, why can't a PSP!?)
4) OLED screen - Sony's got the fabs, put them to work!
If the PSP2 had all of this, you could kiss the iPod Touch gaming market goodbye!
Oops, I meant that touhscreen controls AREN'T on par with buttons!
Honestly, after being in the PSP mod scene I have no interest in any of the reincarnations of the PSP. Sony, like M$, will forever lock the hell out of their systems and the first generation systems can do so much more than the newer versions could ever do.
Love hearing talk about new PSPs can seeing results like the PSP Go, however, with such a high price point and older gens that are so easy to mod with the exact same features. I don't see myself ever purchasing another PSP unless forced or if the mod scene can get a stranglehold the next gen of PSP firmware.
Funny, I just returned the system I bought about a month ago from Fry's for $200. I figured if I had it for nearly 30 days and wasn't all that tempted to open it (because would have to rebuy...well everything especially games) that it was an expense that could be better used buying new games for the systems I already have.
Long story short...until Sony figures out a way to make it so don't have to rebuy my favorite games a second time (at their rather high prices), I say don't encourage their behavior. The idea of the Go is sound, hardware is good, but creating proprietary inputs along with no UMD conversion plan was clearly driven by pure greed. Besides the system is selling so poorly globably I would be suprised if it doesn't gets a $50 price cut within six months anyway.
Amazon definitely has the right idea throwing in $50 to balance out the price but in reality the go should have arrived with a $200 price tag at the most and probably would have sold amazingly well if it was $150 new.
And tonight will be the only night Amazon sells more than two of these.
I played with a PSP Go at Best Buy...it sucked even more than the original PSP. It's too small man it still has one analog stick (I know why but still) the PSP GO sucks like crazy.
ahhh still not worth it as to what Special Agent Steve @ pointed out.... just get a PSP-3000
People complain here way too much. The PSP Go is a quality product, and if you don't value it's benefits at or more than what it costs, then don't buy it. It's as simple as that. There's a reason why Sony has kept the UMD supporting models on store shelves; two completely different markets.
So much hate here....
I have a feeling this is the same kind of hate that is so often shown to the macbook air. The Go! is a premium product that is not meant for everyone. All I ask is that if you have not had a opportunity to have a hands on experience with the GO don't bash it.
Hmm
Has someone hacked your account or is there now an 'editor-troll-bot' that posts one word replies?
Is contemplating a deal considered trolling?
No, but 3 and 4 letter posts are.
Ah ha.
lol Josh.
Appropriately funny,
:D
And, somehow, I'm still not interested...
Here is my price breakdown for the PSP:
$50 - Yes, it's a commodity, what the hell.
$100 - If there are some cool games, or I can mod the hell out of it, I'd probably go for it.
$150 - There'd better be some sweet games, I'd better be able to mod it, and it'd better do a lot of other stuff (music, HD movies, etc)
$200 - no
$250 - ....
I'm sorry, it's a portable system. As in, I'm going to use it for a few minutes here and there, maybe sporadically for longer periods, and if it does enough, possibly as a PMP. That use scenario doesn't equate to a lot of money, especially in a recession...
for real just buy a wii
Yes!
200 isnt THAT bad, but still not tempted to buy
It's been a while and all we get to see is a homebrew that can only play retro game? Did homebrew hit a wall?
yeah, you're right about the cost factor.
But, you're not the only one that was hijacked, a little bit ago Engadget was sending us the the Washington Post...
That was for "Special Agent Steve"
lol Josh.
Appropriately funny,
:D
Actually I think that is a pretty good deal! I don't care for UMD and the Go is much smaller than the 3000. Maybe you can get a 3000 and a 16GB stick for the same price; but a desktop replacement notebook is also cheaper than a more portable subnotebook. Plus, the Go has a MS slot as well so you can upgrade it to 32GB. 250$ is way overpriced, but 200$ doesn't sound as bad anymore. Now if I can get it for 150$ I'm in! ;)
can somebody say....FAIL!!!
