Microsoft Store employees perform dance of the cringe (video)
Why is it that whenever Microsoft tries to have a little "fun" it comes across as creepy or overly controlled? This time it's Microsoft's Mission Viejo Store employees engaged in a fit of awkward boogie that some would call the Electric Slide. Oh boy, corporate fun... it's a bit like corporate rock only less natural. Now go ahead and view the entire 4 minutes and 44 seconds of the video after the break, we double-dog dare you.

But they got some exercise!
wow that's bad...
@Impulsivity
You mean quitting "hand-egg" so you can go play "football"...
Here's a breakdown just to make it clear

This video is just awkward... I think they would have done better with the Cha Cha Slide playing.
That place looks as deserted as a Sony Store. There are more employees than customers.
If they have to resort to creepy dancing to get people to come in from the mall, then I'm sure that's what those shameless buggers will do.
wow... im embarrassed for them.. damn it microsoft!
Sorry, couldn't force myself to watch any more than 2 minutes of that.
I think quite a few of you are missing the fact that they got customers in there dancing with them. Those customers will tell their friends/family about the experience, and possibly draw more people to this store.

I can think of no one I know, friends, family or acquaintances (or even enemies, yes I'm pointing at your Margo!) that would find 'dancing in the isles' as a reason to visit a retail store.
Seriously...
You put forth this supposition?
Seriously????
Guy: Yea, babe, let's go out dancing.
Girl: Oh, that new club downtown?
Guy: No, the Microsoft Store!
Girl: Cool!
well from the looks of it one customer was dancing to distract them from the copy of windows she put in her bag when they were turned the other way.
Sadly, the girl in green is one of the former Apple Store managers (Orlando) that was hired away with a promise of "double the salary". Oh and for those of you who think you have a chance, she is gay.
Nothing like a little square-dancin' to make you want to pay for a new Microsoft product!
I've never seen anybody square-dance to promote Linux. Oh well, we'll get by.
I don't understand why Microsoft has gone with the clapping, cheering and now dancing for their retail stores. Clapping and cheering was Apple's thing, no one can deny that, and frankly its annoying, immature and lame if you ask me and i'm sure many others agree with me. Microsoft pulling this shit makes them look all of the above, plus unimaginative enough no to be able to come up with their own ideas and scared enough to blatantly copy their opponents. In a word, fail.
Kinda fun for the first minute.
They shouldve made it 7 minutes and 77 seconds! even though thats wrong it would still be funny
Oy. I totally feel embarrassed for them and uncomfortable watching this.
I think I know how these things go down:
MS Store Manager: "Hey, you know those YouTube videos where people break into a dance in an Apple store? Yah, we can totally fake, I mean do that! We'll just use our own employees since we don't have fanboi customers actually willing to do it for us!"
Sarcastic Jim Reekes-type employee: "Yah, that wouldn't be stupid at all!"
MS Store Manager: "Excellent, let's get everyone together and practice that ho-down lip-sync dance that Simpson girl did on SNL. That went over well, didn't it?"
Sarcastic Jim Reekes-type employee: /slaps palms against forehead and wonders why he didn't take the job at Taco Johns instead/
This is so bad it goes beyond bad that might have been considered hip and straight into bad that kills the rainforest.
Crappy rip-off dancing to a absolutely horrible song, thats Microsoft for ya!
test
Check out the girl at 2:14. Busted!
I could only manage watching for 21 seconds before my cringe reflex (part of the immune system) closed the window... how did everyone else do? In hindsight, I think 21 seconds was pretty good.
I will do anything for a 20% discount!
When are they gonna open a Seattle store so I can work there?!
Microsofties should not dance in public. Especially Microsofties with very sad facial hair.
"mommy... i'm scared. can we go home now?"
I have made my mind.
I Will never enter into a Microsoft Store.
Shame, Shame, Shame.
did anyone else think it was a apple store?
what does a microsoft store even sell? crushed hopes and dreams? i think the best part of this is the plethora of poached apple employees willing to sell their souls for windows 7.
MS users are all fat...
this was.....terrible
Everyone..and I mean everyone who complained about this can piss off. It is clearly something the leads (not higher ups) thought up, and the fact they got everyone on board to learn the steps (abit long drawn out..the video went on for twice as long as I think it should have) and I think its a great way for a new store to pull its team together.
To make this even more hilarious, they should have invited Ballmer to join them. That would be some funtivity to watch!
Another Microsoft's "Self Made Intellectual Property" which modified from APPLE!!!
Too bad! Come on Bill.. Growth UP Please!
Well maybe they're trying to break the mold of what is the current up-tight assholes that are Apple store employees? They b**** because you accidentally touch their "display models" Maybe Microsoft is trying make a welcoming and friendly environment instead of feeling tension every time you walk into a Apple store? I hope Apple goes on the brink of bankrupt again. They're nothing without customers and they're gonna keep losing them unless they change there ways. Customers are #1. It looks like Microsoft is going to every extent possible to show us they know this. Apple still has yet to learn that lesson.
Go Green
First thing I thought when I saw the pic (didn't read the caption) was a Star Trek flashback, and that guy in the redshirt will be killed at any moment.
Possibly by that guy with the arrow over his head..
The only good thing about this video is the girl in the green shirt lol. I'm surprised they didn't all freeze in the middle of the dance...
If they made us do this at the Apple store you know damn well we'd be doing a better dance than the electric slide.
Like Oh My God
Some of them need a wii wii wiiiii fiiiiiiiittt
Lets get in shape and sell more Winnnndoooows
'Cause i got a feeling wooohooo were gonna sell a lot tonight....
That was.... SO WEIRD! FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE
Why are Apple fans so annoying? Always so quick to talk about how "WONDERFUL" their apple is. No one cares. Most people that hate on windows just doesn't know how to set it up correctly. If setup right, it is a very safe operating system. As Apple gets more popular, I'm sure hackers will focus more attention on the "perfect" Apple OS, the money isn't there for them yet, but, just wait. Give it a rest.
I kept waiting for the "red shirts" to get killed off.
Yeh, she's kinda hot for an american. For everybody else she's just fat, ugly and badly dressed.
the girl in the white shirt at 2:11 shoplifts something.
Anyone notice the customer in the tan Tshirt and brown pants take a product and put it in her purse...
My word, I'd refuse to buy another product from any shop that broke out into THAT, even if it was my beloved Apple reseller.
You can hear the people laughing from Mountain View.
I can't be sure that a "Linux" store would have hotter employees, but I know they'd be more interesting.
Reminds me of Lone Star restaurant when they started. Microsoft should let folks throw styrofoam peanuts on the floor, too. Or maybe a geeky Hooters?
I want to Slide with the Brunette in the Green! HOTTTTTTTT!!!!!
Ok, I agree that the song is kind of lame, the dance is kind of lame- and they failed overall at creating a fun atmosphere through their dance.
That being said- AT LEAST THEY TRIED! This is what's wrong with this country- people can't get together and come up with a dance for fun to make other people have fun without a million haters jumping onto them. At least they took a chance. Who knows, maybe with some practice they could do better next time- do something shorter and more fun.
Or they could never try again to do anything fun and exciting and the entire world will just be boring and hum drum. And not ALL the customers ignored them, a few girls jumped in.
It's not like our country doesn't need more exercise anyway...
AND girl at 2:15 is not shoplifting. The thing in her hand is a bag from another store, and she is putting it in her purse so she can clap or something. That bag in no way appears to be from the microsoft store.
