Palm Pixi one step closer to free, now $25 on Amazon
Start placing your bets folks,'cause it now looks like its almost certainly no longer a question "if" the Palm Pixi will drop to a free-on-contract price, but "when?" The latest stop on the saga is none other than Amazon, which is now offering the webOS-based phone for a mere $24.99 with a service plan, beating Walmart's already bargain price by a full five dollars -- which should be just enough to let you buy a second Pixi next month at the rate things are going.

I took the plunge. My thinking was, the $99.00 Simply Everything plan seemed OK, and I really like the form factor of the phone. Hell, I've been stuck in the stone ages anyway. Don't laugh, I've been using a Samsung Finesse through MetroPCS for the last 6 months because I liked the convienence of not having a bill. But I've been interested in Palm's WebOS since the introduction of the Pre. However, Im not a fan of Sliders. The hardware (of the Pixie) is asthetically pleasing enough. I wish the processor had a little more "umph", and that there was more on board capacity, but what the hell. At anyrate, it's got to be ions better then what I've been using, right?
Wish me luck
Unless you use more than 450 minutes calling landlines during the day, there's no reason to get Simply Everything.
Everything Data 450 is only $69.99, and it includes everything SEP does except for unlimited minutes. But it does include Any Mobile, Anytime (unlimited calls to mobile phones on any carrier any time).
it has no wifi, no thanks, i would get the pre over this. The initial phone charge is nothing in comparison to the actual monthly bills, so a free phone means nothing to me
I picked one up this week from Best Buy for 24.99. They matched the Wirefly price because as luck has it, there is a Wirefly dealer (3rd party I’m assuming) where I live, so I just showed them there was a local dealer and they checked the price off the website and matched it!
So far, I can’t understand some of the over the top negative reviews for it! Yes, I wished it had the beefed up hardware specs that the Pre does, but the form factor clenched it for me. First, the Keyboard is amazingly great. Took about a day to really start banging out messages MUCH longer then I would have normally bothered to do on a mobile device. I had a Pre for a while, but just don’t like slider phones, but I absolutely love WebOS! IMO, it’s a pure joy and the best mobile OS out there by far for what I want to do.
There has been some concern that the newest update causes problems with the EVDO radio. I’ve noticed it a bit, but maybe I’m just lucky and it hasn’t been causing any serious lag. That said, I don’t open up 10 different apps (cards) at a time, but have no problem pulling up Pandora while surfing the web & jumping over to read / respond to emails and reply to incoming texts.
The size & form factor is perfect for me. I can slip it in my pocket and don’t even feel it. Palm knocked it out of the park with the design and the keyboard is unbelievably awesome – especially when you 1st see the device’s size and the keyboard size!! Some may not like a smaller screen but I don’t use my phone to watch movies or a lot of video. Youtube works great, and there’s plenty of screen to do plenty of surfing, emailing , texting or whatever. I hope they come out with a high end model with this same design packed with high end storage and hardware / graphics, processors etc… and would gladly pay a pretty penny for it. I love WebOS. I just hope it’s not the case that Palm was a year too late to get it to market and with Android coming on full steam, that it never gains any traction and goes by the wayside.
Well shit, I think a $50-$80 price point would be great for that phone, and would totally be worth that price, but $25 or $30? Jeez, this thing is really getting undercut here...
I went ahead and ordered one, but I when I checked my order status it shows this above my order status: The following item will arrive after December 25, 2009.
Anyone here that took the plunge get the same message? If that's the case, Im canceling.
Save $275, hahaha. Why even charge for them?
I'd have one already if they weren't on Sprint. No coverage where I travel. ;^)
