cool?
head encyclopedia
What would be really cool is PSN status longer than a few characte
Maybe you all should have held off on saying it's out because it's not live yet for many of people. None of the people I know (including myself) are seeing an available update.
But thanks for the tip that it's coming...
ha @ StreetStealth
I thought it'd be cool for a gamer status to display what movie you're watching if it's from the PSN store or a Blu-Ray.
Though it'd definitely need a toggle switch. Every member of my entire family has a PS3, it'd be a little awkward to see that my dad is watching Anal Cravings #7.
Good to know though if you want to avoid spoilers. . . .
Sweet, now I can annoy all my FB friends with notifications on how I did in MW2, as if they don't already have enough. On another note, A+ for Effort on Sony's part.
uhhh its just going to post trophies earned since last sync...where did you get the MW2 updates from?
Mechwarrior 2? I loved that game.
@ Andir3.0
LMAO
I thought this was coming out next week. I do hope that this implementation isn't an afterthought or a rushed attempt to play catch-up. I hope that they develop a dedicated app for the PS3, since this one sounds like you still have to use the browser.
On a related note, I love that Sony included a browser on the PS3. However, I really wish Sony would have just sucked it up and licensed a 3rd party browser like Firefox.
And while I'm off topic, I think Sony and MS could really score big if they had an app store like apple has--basically allowing people to customize their consoles to have more computer-like features. I guess I'd like that approach as opposed to tacking on facebook support through a firmware update and let people install it if they so choose. Just my 2 cents.
Is the PlayStation Store not an "app store"? It has applications for sale - games / wallpapers / themes...what am I missing?
It doesn't have an iFart app, but it has an internet browser, so I'm sure you can find a way to emulate farts SOMEHOW.
I don't have an xbox so I'm not familiar with XBL but I'd imagine is pretty much the same.
Yeah? No?
I see your argument but when I think apps I don't mean games or things like themes. I'm talking 3rd party non-game programs that could be run under the game OS (without having to install yellowdog).
Well the PS3 has had an app store for quite a while and this weeks 360 update added the ZUNE marketplace so I guess your request is now granted.
I tried out the new features on the 360 last night and was TOTALLY underwhelmed. Last.fm was nice and I'd like to see that kind of integration on my PS3 but I can use the browser and it runs Pandora just fine. Guess I'll have to take a look at the PS3 update when I get home.
On a side note I was stoked to see "KRULL" in the ZUNE store.
Its not live yet. I'm in California.
same here. i'm in oregon.
same here, I'm in Croatia.
Same here, I'm at work.
Same Here, I'm at School....
still not live and im in New York
no go in Los Angeles :-(
AT LAST;l FACEBOOK IN MY PS3 .... MY REAL FRIENDS AND MY PS3 FRIENDS UNITED... hate the browser
And then your real friends will figure out how much a loser you are for using a gaming system to update facebook!!!!
Lies, from the looks of things you belong on xbox live with a headset.
Meh I can't see me really using my Facebook on my PS3 or my Xbox360 unless I'm so incredibly lazy to not walk 2 feet to my PC that's in the same room.
Or
If my girlfriends on the computer (which is rare) so I don't see the importance of it. Especially since you have to be in the GUI of Facebook to use it and it doesn't run in the background.
If it ran into the background and I can see Tweets/Facebook updates between matches this would be a "useful" feature to pass time but the way it's implemented right now I can care less about using it.
Its not up for me yet, NYC here.
My wall is going to be MW2 this MW2 that all the time! Yay
Its not out yet in NYC, Atleast for me
does it beat XO to it?
It hardly adds anything if you don't care about adding gaming trophies to Facebook. It's not even as if it adds a direct link to Facebook to your XMB. Really completely worthless, in other words.
I'm in the Xbox 360 preview program. I'm not really impressed with FB on 360. Yeah sure it is ok, but I'd rather look at it on a computer.
I Got it early also.. Have you actually played around with it? In some ways, the Live version is better than on a PC. Viewing photos for instance is way better.
yeah the picture viewing on facebook live is so much better than on a computer well unless your tv is smaller than your monitor.
Facebook is actually a nice addition to xbox
BTW I'm in love with last.fm !!!!!!!......
Its good to be an xbox owner this time of year.
Awesome, now I can have my vengeance upon all these weirdos I know that inexplicably play Farmville all day.
You do know that you can block (1) weirdos and/or (2) Farmville?
Congrats to Sony. At least they are nice enough to their customers not to rip them off by charging them to use their Internet connection to access Facebook through some fancy interface.
It's really annoying that Microsoft requires a Gold membership to use Facebook/Twitter/etc. Why would I need a Gold account for this? To fund the development? If they had an open API to the dashboard, someone else could have designed this interface.
Blah. If only they would go in that direction, instead of making everything so closed off. Their great efforts at anti-piracy on the new console accomplished only closing it off to homebrew developers, while allowing pirates to keep on stealing games (and backup-ers to keep doing that).
First, you should look into the XNA framework. Easy to program homebrewed games and apps.
Second, an open API would only serve to HELP the pirates and hackers and I for one am glad that MS started cracking down on all of this because playing online used to be a pain with every other match you played some kid had a hacked system.
Finally, Has anyone else noticed that the ONLY people that complain about the XBL fee are the ones THAT DON'T HAVE IT???
Guess those that do have it and DON'T complain are....Happy?
Don't be silly... your gold membership helps cover the repair costs of the RRoD replacement program!
On a more serious note gold LIVE is less than $5/mo and I've had much better luck gaming on LIVE than PSN so I don't mind the price.
@Rususeruru: Sorry to give you the wrong idea. I'm not complaining about paying for the gaming service. There is no point in having to have a Gold membership to use Facebook on my console. It's a website. It doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft (except for them writing the dash software to use it).
@PBB:
First: I know what the XNA framework is, and sure it's possible to write homebrewed games (I wouldn't go so far as to say 'apps'). The API for this is limited, and you couldn't write a web browser with it, for example.
Second: This is not true. While it wouldn't be trivial to lock down such an API, it would be possible. Hacking a game and extending the dashboard are two different things.
Finally: Like I said, I wasn't complaining about the fee. I only recently let my membership dwindle because I didn't have time to play (though now with COD I'm planning to get another year). I was a member for at least three years straight (forget the exact amount of time).
Sure, most people have Gold memberships and are happy enough, since these features just work without them having to think too much. Ever let your membership go to Silver? Incredibly inconvenient. My biggest annoyance was that I couldn't have a chat session, so if I wanted to talk to someone I had to message them back and forth, using the stupid message sending interface that takes forever.
All I'm saying is that Microsoft is a little overconfident in their interface-design skills. I find there are many areas of the dashboard that could be improved, and while many free apps are definitely lacking in usability, I would be happy to at least be able to have a swing at it. :)
1. Open does not mean hackable...that's typical Microsoft FUD.
2. If you think that people still don't packet mod and cheat, then you are diluted.
who really wants this?
Well, I want a nicer look of the displayed pictures like thumbnails rather than an endless list with just names and little icons. I want a better organized, prettier friends list. I want Facebook integration and future features like posting your status updates and a lot more (it will come soon). Am I the only one?
Lots of people. Some of us have friends and would like to compare trophies and notify each other of what games we bought so we can plan to play those games together.
Do not want :p
Do want, seeing friends nab trophies I don't have for games we mutually own would probably motivate me to play said titles more.
NO update for me
Great - now I'll be flooded with PS3 trophy notices in addition to learning that a cow wandered onto your farm.
No update for me, oh thats right I got YLOD 3 days ago playing MW2
Don't you mean richer spamming experience?
i dont have the update either probably just another lie one website says its today or tomarrow or coming soon......oh well i give up
