Samsung Bada phone to be announced first half of next year
We're still not entirely sure why Samsung feels the need to launch its own mobile operating system while still cranking out Android and Windows Mobile devices, but it seems like things are going full steam ahead: a spokesperson told CNET Asia today that a Bada phone would arrive in the first half of 2010. Sure, that sounds like a long time off, but really it's just six months after the big Bada SDK reveal in December, so we'll have to see if that's enough time for developers to sort things out and release any apps.

Hopefully it won't be BADa than the other OS.
-1 for that joke.
Thats totally Bada-ssed.
Also, is that a re-draw of pedo-bear that you have for your display pic?
@ Michael
No, its Kon from the anime series Bleach.
@ Mr.Jackson No, don't get your hopes up. This is Kon, not pedo-bear.
@guy943 you win some, you lose some. But at least I try, and that's what counts.
No, its real name is the infamous PedoBleachBear
Funny I thought he was a lion all this time judging by the spiky "hair" surrounding his head.
I hope there is some integrated BING searching. Bada Bing.
Hmm which OS should I go for? Windows Mobile looks decent. Oh there's also android. Maybe I should go for BB os! Nah I'll go for symbian. Oh maybe palm os will work for me!! Oh wait what... another OS is coming out?! Yay?
*webOS
Yeah... something about this makes me feel like it's an irresponsible decision on Samsung's part. It almost makes me want it to fail. I mean we already have like six mobile operating systems, I think that ought to be enough to choose from.
Have fun, Samsung.
We'll see Bada in the trash by the second half of next year, if you haven't lobotomized it enough as you did with your latest Android phone with that cruddy TouchWIZ interface.
If touchwiz is on the main screen on it, i'm probably not even going to mess with it.
Another one?
I think the default search engine should be Bing.
Get it?
OMG, HAHA...
oh wait, someone already used that joke in the last Bada article... and the one before
Sorry, I don't remember ever reading about the Bada before. I guess I'm just that creative.
i think you guys are wrong.we have 6 os but think of it all of them have FLAWS.bb is too buisness oriented and most of the phones sucked and its locked to BB phones and rim.web os is nice but its not polished no app store and it can be confusing.OSX is nice but locked on 1 phone!!and its not open at all!!(thank god for jailbreaking).android is gettin there but there are bugs.like its very boring atleast stock android.WINMO lets face it is absolutly terrible enless on a HD2 or touch pro 2 and what do u really love winmo or the phone or the shiny touch flo 3d.symbian...WTF.so i think if samsung can make a functional os make multiple phones for it and give it that shiny rachael ui or better make it so it doesnt crash and leave it open so it works on diffrent phones...cough cough HD2 cough they will have a real winner oh woops forgot about sidekick....do i even need to say anything?!? im preety sure thats completley out of the ppicture....;)
I get the feeling that Bada won't be a complete OS, rather a layer over all the OS's that Samsung is using now. This would probably help the developers to make apps that would run on all Samsung phones, whatever the underlying OS may be.
In many ways, similar to what Nokia's aiming with qt.
The Bada Bing jokes werent funny the first time.
Anyhoo, I hope Samsung doesnt waste too much R & D on this. Work on making better Android phones, the Behold II is lame.
Bing!
I do business in Asia and South Korea is one of my markets. In Asia, it’s a completely different story. South Korea itself is treated considerably different to other markets.
This will probably work out for them quite well. South Korean buying habits are extremely nationalistic. Technology in that country is absolutely DOMINATED by LG and Samsung. They generate large revenues domestically.
In addition, as I work in software, I have come across a development community that is also massive with developers being hired for relatively little money. This is quite an opportunity for them to have a first go at developing apps local to their market if they feel like they can’t quite get a foothold in the AppStore or the Android Market.
I really feel this is certainly something they can successfully grow as they have a very healthy technology-centric buying culture right on their doorstep. Girls are just as into gadgets as they are makeup, fashion, and skin care (some of the other major verticals).
What will be interesting to see is if LG tries to compete and develops its own platform!
that doesn't explain why samsung *needs* to do this, but i guess it could explain why samsung feels safe doing this.
more development can't be a bad thing. keep google on its toes.
Out where? Korea only? Asia only? Oh well, doesn't matter as long as Samsung still committed to Android.
this was well known from the beginning - http://www.bada.com/about/plans/
"Bada" means ocean, in Korean. Hence, the silly sail boat.
