Sony Ericsson Kurara has speedy Cortex A8, PowerVR purring inside
Eldar Murtazin, the man/legend behind Mobile Review has snagged one of those already leaked SE Kurara handsets, and he's got some juicy info to share with the rest of us. Apparently, the CPU on that little goer is a Cortex A8, backed by 256MB of RAM and a PowerVR graphics processor. It's no surprise then that the HD label we saw earlier has been corroborated by 720p video recording and playback capabilities, and the Symbian S60 interface is said to "fly." Eldar promises fuller impressions and more imagery by tomorrow, and indicates the second half of February as the likely landing date for the new handset, with a price point around €500 ($745) in Europe.

Finally. A solid looking Symbian handset with grunt to back it up.
@Ethos How about the Samsung i8910 HD? Certainly had the grunt, but the Symbian interface let it down imo.
@TR what was the specs inside that Sammie? i dont think it up to snuff or compares this particular implementation.
I understand the suck part of the i8910HD because of the way Samsung used it but this is a Sony Ericsson. I ll have to admit that no Symbian Alliance partner understands i(Symbian and S60 like Nokia)
Both the Sony Ericsson Satio and Samsung i8910 HD rock Cortex A-8 CPUs.
@xbit k....noted
I have an i8910 HD and while it does 8MP photos and 720p video it still leaves a lot to be desired, mostly because of the disastrously poor software support by Samsung.
The hardware is the same as the Kurara, but i'm sure SE will make a greater effort to fix bugs and introduce new firmwares regularly.
i love S60
Looks to be a winner. S60 v5 is fast enough on my 5800 itself(ARM 11 434mhz).. it should be wicked fast with Cortex A8 with 256MB ram o.O
@Satz
Same internal specs as Satio, and mine doesn't fly... Maybe it's the Vodacrap branding that's bloating it down.
@Haha
Hard Reset ?
@Satz probably , yes .. but we will see
@Haha: Vodacrap indeed. I rebranded my featurephone (C905) to original SE firmware.
It now flies through menu's, J2ME midlets, etc.
With a 111 MHz ARM9 CPU. :P
S60 rocks and ll rock harder on this type of hardware
that looks yummier than the X10
hello?
@shapey oh good - i can post in here now (although it doesn't show me as logged in at the top of the engadget mobile site)
@shapey but now it does...
@shapey ah... and now the mobile site comments is linked to the main site comments! better!
Hasn't the Samsung i8910 the same processor as the IP3GS, the Droid and the N900? It also records 720p. It also has S60. Hmmm.... not that I want to say anything bad about the new SE but what does it have over the i8910? Is its CPU even faster?
@geozec
Probably not. What I find surprising, is that the cost is more expensive than the Satio... It has the same processor as the ones you mentioned along with the Satio. My guess is because of the AMOLED...
Looks really slick. Why must all these really nice phones be released with price tags way out of my reach D;
i wish it was maemo 5. that would really make me buy it. but nonetheless, s60 is good enough
Maemo looks nice but it isn't even a smartphone platform yet.
I think it would be great to see more Symbian devices, especially Symbian^3 which - according to the roadmap - seems to come with new exciting features, regardless the move to Qt in Symbian^4.
Looks like Sony is recognizing the awesome processor type powering the iPhone!!
Yes!! Sony is totally copying Apple because they decided to use the same processor class!!!
/sarcasm
Also, Apple invented processors! Really! Look it up!
Been a while since we've seen some S60 with more power behind it. But eh...
This is a clone of the OmniaHD (i8910).
Nothing new here, unless it actually delivers what it promises (HD Video recording WITHOUT frame loss and audio quality issues), UNLIKE the i8910 -- even with the latest firmware updates, the i8910 fails at HD video. By the way, if this has the OMAP3430 like the satio, and i8910, how the hell can it do 720p video?
Look on TI's site, it mentions D1 video at 30fps, nowhere does it mention 720p, which makes me think this (and the i8910) is hacked together 3rd rate HD recording code, hence the high frame loss and jitters.
Seriously? Symbian....WTF???
is it still Symbian^1 or it's Symbian^2?
SE's S60 still looks way cool
Cortex is good enough ... Satio any1?
cortex is good... no doubt
but i wish for maemo 5..
s60 is dying already... (nokia to replace n series with maemo 5)
:(
@rahul
S60 is just the default user interface for Symbian^2, which is the underlying operating system. S60 as a platform may be showing its age, but Symbian has a long life ahead of it if the group would just get on the ball and publish something new and exciting.
Those a nice specs. Reminds me of the specs inside my Dreamcast, would be awesome if this thing could play those. But back on topic, that really is a nice looking phone.
