Well, we just caught sight of it in all its
dissected glory courtesy of the FCC last week, but it looks like the
Archos 9 tablet / media player may not be quite so close to a release after all. According to
UMPC Portal, Archos now says that the initial batch of pre-orders won't start shipping until "early December" -- well past the already-missed October 22nd launch date -- while the retail release has been pushed back all the way until sometime in the first quarter of 2010. Let's just hope the price doesn't
keep going up in the meantime.
That's too bad I really wanted to replace my AV400 this year.
This thing might be useful if it were also a GPS unit.
No! Pleeze get mine to me by Christmas.
Wow, my name has been changed from Donald Melanson to just "Donald", I thought names couldn't be changed...
Good God change the font!
@jackson
If you're using firefox, you can get stylish to force a change -- not ideal, but your eyes will thank you.
Seriously, Engadget... please listen to him!
@jackson
basically the new site looks good on a Mac and using Mac font rendering, but it looks awful anywhere else..
Man, I was actually considering getting this. (Bumma #1)
I haven't checked for posts in the last few days, and kazaaam! What happened to the simple layout? Way too many things are italicized! (Bumma #2)
Ohh and one more thing, I uploaded an avatar 4 days ago and still none of my posts have been updated, yet engadget flips the site! Gesshhhh (bumma #3)
I got my first name. score. I went for Admin but was too late. :(
Hello world!
Wonder if this will get a Pinetrail update?
Look at the picture of this device. The windows are off the screen and onto the frame. Whoever photoshopped that picture should be fired.
@my_ebiz
Actually that's the 3D support that they just added. They're keeping it quiet until the pre-orders are ready to ship; that's also why there is a delay.
i don't know, but i can't comment now. what happen to new engadget ?
@iPhoneMessenger looks like its can now.
hahaha
thanks engadget.
the problem i can't type I-P-H-O-N-E
as the messenger, i need to write that name a lot. :D
Wish this one had their version of Android on it, just like the 5" one.
I like the new font.
im just not seeing how using this rather than the laptop i have set up for portable media (running xubuntu w/ xbmc) is going to do me any better.
they are cool looking and it would be a great gift (hint hint) if someone gave it to me, but i cant see spending my money on it.
I got mine from the first batch delivered in europe.
This kind of device is like supercharged picture frame, it can do a lot of things for a tiny unit. It fits into my coats pocket! Also battery life is quite good as you might not use this as intensively as a pc. But what I really would like to have more, is a app store like apples - becouse there is not that many programs for pc that meant to be used with a touchscreen and low resolution.
