Perhaps, may be I should wait to see if there will be any black Friday deal on this..phone
@Jimmy Jones I'd love to have this Phone, but Nokia doesn't know that what CDMA means.
Because most of the world uses gsm, I don't really blame nokia at all.
Thank you for the bigger font. =). This phone seems like a good deal. Still love my G1 though.
HOLY SHIT. Way too good of a deal to pass up.
No more reservations, I'm buying an N900!!
Would buy this phone in an instant if it worked on AT&T's 3g bands. That price is looking sexy though.
@XChrisX Uh... I was under the impression it does!
@nerdtalker I hope you're right, but I did a basic Google search and everything came up with this working on T-Mobile.
@XChrisX Dangit, you're right. We need WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz. This is WCDMA 900/1700/2100 MHz.
I'm majorly depressed now. I wanted to get one so bad for Christmas.
@nerdtalker
AT&T's currently sexual partners with Apple, and the iPhone is AT&T's stepchild. They're committed, it seems.
The N900 is a mistress they will never fully get engaged to, or divorce from Apple in the process.
Dell has it for the same price yesterday
Really getting tempted by this.
@Sycamore714
It was cheaper at dell but they were asking pre order till feb 11 2010..
@Sycamore714
With Dell you will have to pay sales tax on the purchase, not so with Amazon.
This is seriously way too tempting...
In newegg is cheaper + there's no tax and amazon charges you tax.
@m3nphls
Amazon does not charge tax and it over 500 at newegg

In time and at a good price !
So much for the Uk getting it first. Though to be honest, when the US actually receives this phone is actually still a mystery as far as I can tell.
Yaaaaaawwwwwn.
In the current mobile market in the US, the price tag overshadows the benefits of this device.I really wanted to buy this device, but going with T-Mobile 3G band only + steep price = no sale.
@Ineed911
I agree. This phone looks good but T-Mobile's 3G coverage isn't enough for me to switch back to them for this phone. Oh well...
@Ineed911
You can't go cheaper than Tmobile for data so you shouldn't be complaining about cost. Also, this phone is unlocked. Look up the cost of any comparable (if there even is one) phone unlocked and you won't be so quick to say that. This is an excellent price for all the things this device does. It's in a class all of it's own compared to any other mobile. I'd dare to say this can run more apps than your average netbook at the same time and playback HD video smoother.
@Shaka
To be clear, I am only listing the upfront cost of the device as a negative - not the cost of a T-Mo plan. The fact that you can go with an inexpensive plan on T-Mo is the only reason that the cost would work out in this case - unfortunately, I cannot go with T-Mo based on reliability of the carrier in my area and the areas that I travel in.
However, my opinion is that even in cases where you may have a cost save for buying an unlocked device, the realized financial advantage is less a factor than the service/enjoyment value of the device over time. The point is that fronting money is never my preference (cash is KING), but I will do it if it is worth the cost. I did it with the iPhone because it was worth the output for that device at that time. Right now (in the US) the N900 is not worth fronting $500, with the requirement for me to be on T-Mo to get 3G data speeds, given the device options available on solid carriers.
Finally, I wanted the N900 from the first time that I read about it, but it still is not worth the initial cash investment plus the hassle of switching to T-Mo for me.
Ok. I understand.
@Ineed911
are you kidding me? $500 for a smartphone UNLOCKED and UNBRANDED is a REALLY good buy. Try to get an unlocked iphone or any HTC device and you are spending AT LEAST 500 bucks
@wako
I am not kidding you - although I am not sure about which part. Everyone gets so excited about unlocked and unbranded - but who really cares? If the device is on an inferior network then it may be fine as a niche product to a limited audience, but my days of supporting a great product concept on a flawed provider are over. I learned that lesson from switching from Verizon to AT&T when the original iPhone was released.
Just to restate - again - I don't have a problem with the device, or the price. I have a problem with the choice to limit to T-Mobile for 3G data, as this is key to the usability of this type of handset. I would have even stayed on AT&T (begrudgingly) as it is #2 for me.
@Ineed911
I can get better speeds on T-Mobile's EDGE now than on AT&T's 3G in my area... that's sad. AT&T's even pushed AMR-HR on 3G now... because of overcrowding vis-a-vis iPhone popularity. Wasn't 3G supposed to help with call quality??? I agree that AT&T's service has gone to the toilet, but I'd rather have decent price/month+decent 3G data service (even middle-of-nowhere Amarillo, TX has T-Mobile 3G).
Also, there's Stelera Broadband ISP which uses AWS for its 3GSM service, and a handful of other 3G-AWS committed regional carriers in the US that would like to have a piece of 3G-capable N-Series pie... Don't forget, many US regional carriers sell unlocked Nokia E- and N-Series phones (even with contract), so take that into account.
It's not just the national carriers that get to see this device.
The Most Important part is when they gone SHIP IT...
@Imtiyaz Maredia
I read yesterday at some other blog that the Nokia NY store was calling the waiting list members to pick/ship their phones. Also read that the waiting list was full, so they were not taking more orders instore.
Well said. Ive noticed Engadget, Slashgear etc staying well away from reporting on shipping dates for this device.
Might be worth reporting on whether Nokia still give a shit about the people who have been waiting almost 2 months for this and are having to rely on rumours and vague non-statements ( ie ones that have no actual info ) from 3rd parties.
@Stem Four
wasnt it just on Engadget, Slashgear, and Gizmodo and every other gadgetry outlet that the device was shipping to vendors? Therefore it is safe to assume it is coming to your doorstep within weeks (but less than a month)
Yes, they reported the latest date of about 4 previous incorrect LIES. And fair enough, they were clever enough to hold back to wait for something hopefully accurate. There's still some debate as to when this will hit UK stores, though it seems the US has this on sale now, at least at the Nokia direct outlets.
I'm close to pulling the trigger...
@Shaka Don't do it. There are people that love you.
But I can't touch them in ways I will touch this phone. I'm losing it man! I can't continue to use this tiny screen on my E71. I'm about to get the N900 and turn into http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxiOKKF721U this guy.
Before long they will be in the bargain bin along with the Zune HD which Microsoft is offering coupons for and the Droid which you can get for around $100 already.
@Terry
Considering this phone may have more longevity in it than most devices today, I dont see that happening. Unless its been bought by someone who is devastated by not being able to smoke/wank/drive while writing an SMS.
The open source Maemo community will see that this device soon becomes a must-have for a lot of people, especially the type who read gadget blogs.
@Terry
For $100, on 2-year contract. Locked to Verizon effectively forever. Minus the 32GB of internal storage, and a very not-truly-open OS (which is the major draw to the N900 for me.)
New egg shows 11/30/2009 release date
I preordered it on amazon and they currently state it'll arrive after 12/25.
As a N800 owner, who chuckled at the N770 owners, to then shortly afterwards be chuckled at by N810 owners, who are now all chuckled at by N900 owners. I'll wait till the N930 or whatever they'll put out so I can chuckle at N900 uses who'll have the unsupported OS/device.
@%UsernameHTML% There's a rumoured N920 which will be released Summer '10. Only difference so far being reported is that it will be without a physical keyboard and slightly better innards.
I doubt people who will buy the n900 will be too jealous of n920 users + the old adage: "There is no such thing as a perfect device" :).
You can always wait for a better device. Keep on waiting and you'll have a N000- nothing.
Get the N900, love it, use it, sell it when the N920 comes out.
Whoa, that's awesome. Which carriers' 3G bands support the N900?
@%UsernameHTML% T-Mo (1700mhz) in the US.
Several delays and now a hefty rebate. To me, Nokia doesn't seem too confident about this device.
Nokia didn't cut any prices, Amazon did.
The rebate is issued by Nokia, and it applies to the N900 regardless of where it's purchased (in the US).
I'd love this for for AT&T. Just can't dump my contract to move to tmobile.
I just read the rebate that it says that they will give you a $50.00 prepaid visa card. So you will end up spending that anyway.
