Man, the loot you can uncover when you go snooping around spec pages. That most ambitious of Sony Ericsson projects, the
XPERIA X10, is still
a long way from being released, but already we can narrow down the list of potential US carriers to just one: AT&T. The guys over at
Phandroid were the first to spot the newly added UMTS frequency specs for the phone, and the available 800/850/1900/2100 bands fit only AT&T's
3G network. That's gonna be a bitter pill to swallow if you were looking for something like (or better than) an iPhone, but were put off by the wireless provider. Then again, with pre-order prices for unlocked X10s showing up at $999 in some places, maybe you can just look at our
lukewarm hands-on and convince yourself this phone ain't worth it anyway. Go on, you know denial makes sense.
[Thanks, Berto]
Relax, dude. They just stumbled across some European preorder price that has no official backing, converted it to USD and proceeded to shit all over the phone. That's not how phone pricing works in the real world.
No matter how many times people point this out, American tech blogs refuse to accept the truth.
Dude don't kill yourself yet, the acer a1 (will come out) available for preorder before the Xperia x10 and will probably cost less unlocked.

except the liquid is has a downclocked snap dragon.
I was waiting for the same thing, I really thought this was coming to tmobile. I love android, but my G1 is seriously lacking the power to handle the amount of stuff I use it for. I constantly get those process hanging messages, even when I am just listening to beyondpod and using email or sms.
Hmm, I saw on another site, the HSDPA band listed for X10 includes 1700 band, not 850. So one would think it's actually going to T-Mobile, not AT&T. Sony, the least you should do is to sell it unlocked.
Somebody already pointed out the different configurations. Ignore my comment above.
I vote for T-mobile...
Well, we can definitely tell Engadget sips on the Haterade...
Ya just because we see the truth in the matter, you get butt hurt...
hmm....the truth that Engadget hates AT&T? Yes, I agree on that point....however, butt hurt? Your logic is unsound, sir.
whatever you say buddy. You're just like the rest of the AT&T loving dummies on here...
.....did I even once mention that I even liked AT&T???? No, I did not. Once again, unsound.
@Kold
Then why are you criticizing Engadget's own criticism of AT&T's clearly problematic network if you didn't feel that their network was worthy of such criticism? The only reason you would make some ridiculous comment about "haterade" is if you disagreed with Engadget's criticism and felt that AT&T's network was better then it was. Therefore, it's a logical conclusion to think that you are, in fact, defending and/or supporting AT&T, their network, and their service.
Basically, you can take your "sound" bullshit and your condescending attitude and shove it.
HA! You crack me up. Looks like no one knows how to bring an argument up without cussing in it and/or being flat out rude. I did not state I was defending AT&T. I just have never liked underhanded comments people throw out there, and I see it all the time on this website. Simple as that. Read what you will out of it if you wish.
Just wondering what made this official to AT&T as I remember SE always have a variant on the end just like X1a is for america and and X1c and X1i for other countries.
.....did I even once mention that I even liked AT&T???? No, I did not. Once again, unsound.
lol still getting used to the comment system
Enlighten me then. What is you opinion on the matter, cause I would really like to know...
I think the phone has potential. I really like the video that was posted a few days ago showing the (hopefully) final result of the finished product, because if it runs smoothly like that, it just goes to show how far phones are coming now.
Now, as for my original post, it is quite obvious that Engadget does not like AT&T one bit. So apparently, to you at least, pointing that out makes you "butt hurt" and "like the rest of them". Learn to act mature about things before you start calling people names. Thank you.
Well I apologize. This has made me very angry. I have been stalking this phone since the day it surfaced. I have had high hopes since day one that this would be the iphone of T-Mobile. Just like the Droid is the iPhone of Verizon.
I feel as though this is very unfair to the company who introduced us to the Android OS. They really don't have that many touch phones when you compare it to other companies...
And in my opinion, considering the situation SE is in, T-Mobile would be the perfect add candidate. AT&T would never advertise this phone as well or as hard as they did with the iPhone and it would simply fade away. For example, do you remember the s710a? If you do, I would be surprised. That was a Cingular phone (now AT&T for anyone who doesn't know)
That is most definitely true that T-Mobile is lacking in the touchscreen department, but hey, look on the bright side. Even if it does go to AT&T, at the very least you could still get one unlocked and use it on T-Mobile. Yes, I know, no 3g =( but at least the phone is still available even if that happens. Gotta look on the bright side of things!
That is a bright side but then you have to buy one unlocked... from somewhere... far away... for a lot of money. lol
Yea lol, just be glad it isn't going somewhere like MetroPCS *shudder*
I don't even know what that is and it made me cringe...
Remember Helio? It's kinda like that >_
gross
For the record I am not an apple fanboy but you should say the "Flagship" smartphone for Verizon,T-mobile,Sprint etc, there is only one Iphone. Until there is a manufacture that can actually put good (not just decent) hardware and software together.
I am on t-mobile with a g1 hoping that SE will release the phone at a reasonable price and hoping history won't repeat itself.
REPOST DUE TO JERKS...
I SWEAR TO GOD, IF THIS PHONE GOES TO AT&T I HOPE AND PREY SOY ERICSSON GOES BANKRUPT AND THEY HAVE TO SHUT DOWN!
SE, YOU'RE MAKING A MISTAKE!
WHERE'S T-MOBILE'S HIGH END ANDROID? AT&T BLOWS.
JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR TO YOU, IF THE X10 GOES AT&T, I WILL GO OUT OF MY WAY TO HIT UP EVERY SINGLE AT&T STORE WITH A HAMMER AND SMASH EVERY X10 I SEE FOLLOWED BY EVERY X10 I NOTICE THAT SOMEONE OWNS.
MAKE THIS PHONE T-MOBILE SONY ERICSSON, or else...
just remember not to drop the soap.
+1.
awesome post for sheer goofiness.
If they do a little more work on the UI on this phone I see it out selling the droid especially if it comes with 2.0.
Carried by T-Mobile, of course...
Android 2.0 by now is exclusive from Motorola
uh... ya
Why don't you go back and read a few posts about it again before you post anything else please...
Bout time AT&T gets something decent outside of the iPhone. All haters be damned!
THIS PHONE WILL NOT BE AT&T EXCLUSIVE...
How do you know this? I don't care either way, I just happen to get great coverage in Houston and most of Texas in general so I don't have any immediate plans to switch carriers. After some research it looks like this could land on t-mobile as well maybe.
Just from some of the thing I have just read, it sounds like the first Android phone for AT&T will be made by dell. Don't quote me on that cause I'm not entirely sure but what I do know is it's still too early to tell. We'll probably hear something different tomorrow...
an android with a skin worth 1000 dollars? jajajaja
I like android, but there is already a 2.0 version out there, and is less expensive.
Sony Ericsson thinks this phone is going to save them from bankrupt?
"1GHz Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, wide 4-inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an 8GB MicroSD card. - Engadget" Minus the later 2, what other Android handset boasts these type of specs?! It's a real letdown that there is no real on board memory but at least with a micro sd slot the memory upgrades are really in a sense limitless. I think this phone will do quite well actually. The less expensive Motorola Sholes to me isn't quite as impressive as this phone. We will have to wait and see when this comes out tho.
You are speaking about a thousand bucks man, are you crazy man?, you mentioned the Sholes from Moto:
has a real keyboard, the camera 5.0 is good, wide screen 3.7 inches, Android 2.0, multi-touch, better screen colors, BETTEE MATERIAL, didnt you know SE handsets are made of PLASTIC, all of them, the Sholes Browser supports HTML5, 3.5mm HEADPHONE JACKS, and a 16gb MicroSD card, supporting 32 too, and is half price of X10.
if you speak to me about the camera, there is coming Sholes Tablet, with 8 mpx too, surely android 2.0, and again, will be less expenseive than X10. Sony is just selling a name, wich is good, but not the best.
Sorry SE
this could easily be coming to any of the carriers in canada.
we're all on those bands now and telus is really into the whole android thing at the moment
they just launched their new gsm network with the hero and are getting the droid in a couple months
If Sony Ericsson gave me a free unlocked X10 and it worked on T-Mobile in every way, I wouldn’t care where it went or what happened in the future of SE.
But as we all know, this will never happen…
This NEEDS to be released on T-Mobile..!
Damn you, AT&T..
