Toyota Partner Robots heading to the moon, offworld colonies inevitable
It started off innocently enough. Personal transporters, they told us, just robots to make life easier. Now look at them -- Toyota's Partner Robots are set for upgrades that include back-mounted solar chargers, spring-loaded jumping mechanisms, and a design hardy enough to withstand lunar temperature drops. Intended for the performance of exploratory missions on the moon -- alongside a four-wheeled robotic rover -- the new designs were introduced by Toyota in a presentation titled "Realization of Moon Exploration Using Advanced Robots by 2020." So, if the world doesn't actually end in 2012, by 2020 we'll have extraterrestrial robots plotting our demise anyway. More pictures of lunar colonization can be found after the break.

so when can i expect the sex androids to hit the market...2029?
I thought it would be obvious, that is coming in 6069, pun intended.
That should read 2069, is there not a edit option on these comments?
Engadget, wtf?
Provide some options for the replies to auto-expand, like digg please.
kthx

If we even get to 2012, trying to find the higgs might just kill us all first anyways.
Seems like a pretty achievable and awesome way to accomplish moon exploration without excessive gamma exposure to humans.
that would definitely be an easy way to get us on the moon if they can get the water and build stuff for us
Thats what I was thinking. Put 20 of those things in a rocket instead of 5 humans + life support and let them set up our space domes or whatever we need.
looks like im late to the party but it seems engadget's site just took a level in badass
..........well... save for the times new roman.... and hell is wrong with replies?? skyblaze wants to see what people have to say for free! don't put me to work by forcing me to click on shizzle... thats valuable clickin' energy ya digg?? i could use that for somethin more important like dowrankin' the trolls! i can't do a proper downrank with half my clickin' energy spent! its not the same!
Consider using this:

wow, that's a world of improvement... they should hire you, kirt!
now onto the comment replies eh, josh and crew?
Omgosh, thank you for that javascript, now if only the reply comments would just show up.
sounds like someone high-up at toyota discovered marijuana.
protip: write down your pot-induced visions and read them in the morning before sending out a press release.
Are the doomsday references going to go on for the next 3 years in posts referring to something post 2012? Lost count of how many there's been recently.
Yeah, it's really getting old.
dont worry, we only have to deal with them for 3 more years. Whether or not we'll be around to say "HA! I told you so!" remains to be seen
Ah Bender, not the Crushinator!
We will be literally look up at the SKYnet.
*looking up
WOW! How many 2012 Jokes are we going to have to suffer through? What ever happen to the Apple vs Microsoft wars? ;)
In the second picture, the farthest robot is ruining the Zen garden :(
At least they don't run on good chi(?)
Not just that, but one of the robots is doing calligraphy (of course, writing 月, which means moon). It seems that it would take some innovation, considering that typically Japanese calligraphy is done with water-soluble ink, which would boil on the moon, which has no air. Furthermore, both activities don't achieve anything practical, while require extra resources (the fuel to send any significant additional weight to the moon is quite costly). Basically, I think that that picture should be labeled: "Is this really necessary?"
Oh that's why we want to go to the moon, we want to make a huge Zen Garden. Playground for robots.
Robot: "No stairs on the Moon? YEEES!!!"
Mountains, yes, but no stairs.
i think we should figure out how to inhabit detroit first... ooohhh, burrrn.
...
One of these days Ndnd... Bang, zoom, straight to the third moon of Omicron Persei 8!
Did I see these on Star Wars?
Until I read the last sentence of the article and went past the break, I had assumed the main picture was a quick Engadget Photoshop job.
what the hell is up with the second picture? Is this a joke?
Relax everyone, the robots are just there to build a toyota logo on the moon. It was only a matter of time before the moon became adspace
A new life awaits you in the Off-world colonies! A chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!
ITS ABOUT TIME
finally, make those bots do work!
Surely all the robots and their equipment plus lunar rover etc shown in these pics are gonna require the same level of heavy lift capability that a human mission would need.
Gods damn fraking Cylons!
So what do these robots get in terms of mileage?
Already in work at NASA:
