Hey Windows users: what would you risk for a mouse of such mystical persuasions that it has the word "magic" right in the product name? How about $69 for the mouse followed by a few sleepless nights after installing a .exe found in the murky shallows of the internet? That's what it'll take to install some hacked drivers, said to enable Apple's
Magic Mouse gestures, on your Windows rig. The drivers were extracted from the latest Bluetooth update targeting Mac owners running Windows under Boot Camp, but now there's nothing stopping you from trying them too. Let us know how this dark elixir works out in the comments below.
I'd rather play it save and use a mouse that isn't a ripoff.
Save what?
The Magic Mouse isn't a ripoff. It's actually a pretty darn good mouse.
What exactly is it ripping off?
Seriously, What is it ripping off?
He was referring to the price.
Wow its rare to see a comment that fails on so many levels
How is this a bad comment. From my experience, it's a pretty shitty mouse. I mean, it's cool that it has multi-touch gestures but this this is as ergonomic as a shard of glass and there's no middle-click. Unless you like your mouse to be a work of art and nothing but that, this is most definitely a trial product at best.
OK, the problem here is our American friends are so insular, we here in the UK are aware of both uses of the term "rip-off" but they're only aware of the one.
UK rip-off = charging too much for not that much. Being too expansive for what is offered. (see above)
US rip-off = a copy, counterfeit or fake of something.
See...so his comment only half fails.
In Michigan "rip off" means charging too much, but then again Michigan is also the only state that calls soda "pop".
Oh no, we have both meanings here as well. The other guys are (presumably) acting dumb. Also, expensive, not expansive.
@Hotrod: Might want to do your homework, pop is used in many more places. It may seem like we're the only ones but about half the country does.
That would be generalizing, Tes. This is how I would use the word - -
If it were expensive, and not worth the price - -
"Wow, the new Apple mouse is such a rip-off!"
If it were a clone, or very similar to another product - -
"Wow, the new Apple mouse is just a rip-off of the XYZ mouse!"
Actually this is an awesome mouse. I use it on my Mac, now that there are Windows drivers out I can see me buying another for my home PC!... It's hard to overstate how good this mouse is until you use it. Ergonomic as a shard of glass? Just shows you haven't used it.
There was a typo in there (it was supposed to say "play it safe" obviously) but on what other levels did I fail? I simply meant that $70 is a lot to pay for a mouse when there's tons of $20 mice out there that are perfectly respectable.
I have used it. You must have tiny hands if you think this mouse is an any way ergonomic. Either that or you think multi-touch capabilities are worth the trade off. I personally don't think so, hence I will stick with my Razer Mamba as well as my MX Revolution.
Pop is a Canadian thing, I knew we let Michigan get to close.
Canadian thing, ummm prove that, its a regional thing you dumbass. "Pop" or soft drinks were started long ago in medival times, in the east, in a different form, and grew from there, becoming popular in America in the early 1900's. Besides what cool things come from Canada? If your statement lets you sleep at night, then go ahead ...sigh

wow, professor klaus. Your sense of humor not kick in until you get that second cup of coffee?
AdamSpruijt was joking. No call to pull the "dumbass" card, even if you didn't think the joke was funny.
It was funny.
@add children. We are talking about a mouse here. And for the record. Its Soda.
Americans know both definitions of the phrase "rip off". I think it was just misunderstood in this post.
I like the idea of using a touch surface for one finger scrolling. That's actually a great idea.
But, I have a hard time using 2 fingers for the side-to-side swipe. I'd still rather have a real back button for use in a web browser.
All in all, the Magic Mouse is the best Mouse apple has ever made. But, Logitech still has my attention. I love real buttons... at least 3 or 4 buttons.
@Professor Kaos
tons of amazing things have come from Canada, like insulin, Black Berrys, IMZX, garbage bags, Java, standard time, walkie-talkie,
Oh and where the hell would you be without the TELEPHONE!?
Sorry, meant to say IMAX
Death to Italics!
Also, I'll stick with my G5
No death to autotune!!
G5 here too...FTW!!!
Death to crappy designers, too.
Fix for the new site issues (italics) http://userstyles.org/styles/22701
For use with the firefox 'stylish' addon or greasemonkey, but also has link for opera and IE7Pro
I know I repeat myself but few people expand replies so that's why I also posted is as standalone.
Thanks for the link. Could you help me figure out how to load this on Safari?
Sorry I never had a mac, but since it's just modified css I'm sure there's some way to use it in safari too, some plugin (can't think of the word apple uses, widgets) or something that allows for dynamically modifying site CSS.
Is that an oblique threat? Or a boldfaced truth?
Wow thanks for the link. What a relief to go back to something readable at last!
Dear Jesus,
Reading complaints about to italics on every thread is worse than "FIRST!" comments. Please make them stop.
Your pal,
Richard
Have they even addressed the issue of the fonts? they fixed the comment size right after everyone complained but i haven't seen one thing yet about how sucky the site is now because of body fonts and italics.
Yes they discussed it on the engadget pofcast, and adamantly said they would not change ti you just should give it time to get used to it.
YES! The day this came out I was hopping to use it on my windows pc
I think you need some slightly more significant life goals to aim for and be excited about.
...?
Why would you want to use this mouse. I have seen it in stores a few times now, and each time I attempted to use it. It sucks.
Once again Apple put design over ergonomics. The mouse doesn't fit well in the hand and is awkward to hold. None of the gestures worked either (these were on Macs btw). The ONLY gesture that worked anytime I attempted to use it was the scroll.
Maybe the problem is you then because I've used this mouse and have had absolutely no problem with either form or function.
Whoever wants to use this nonsense generally is an idiot. But whoever wants to use this nonsense on a Windows rig should be locked in a psychiatric cell!
I am still holding out for pinch to zoom or a tablet.
@BenDy: You're still allowed to use this mouse sitting down, or even standing on both legs. Until Apple change their minds at least.
eww... and get carpel tunnel! No thanks!
actually, using a normal mouse will probably give you carpal tunnel but the mighty mouse will force you to keep your hand slightly upward, reducing the risk of carpal tunnel. but, i still dont like the mighty mouse. logitech ftw
I started developing all kinds of weird aches when using it in the Apple store, and I guess I just didn't get it. I just use a Logitech MX on my main system, and a Razer Orochi with Flip 3D bound to a side button.
hahahaha it doesn't even have a button dude, what is there to 'get' you would have to be terry shaivo not to understand this mouse...jesus christ
Actually dumbass, this mouse is more complicated than a normal mouse. A normal mouse you click a button..ooooo. This mouse you need to figure out and memorize all the gestures.
