Hey Windows users: what would you risk for a mouse of such mystical persuasions that it has the word "magic" right in the product name? How about $69 for the mouse followed by a few sleepless nights after installing a .exe found in the murky shallows of the internet? That's what it'll take to install some hacked drivers, said to enable Apple's
Magic Mouse gestures, on your Windows rig. The drivers were extracted from the latest Bluetooth update targeting Mac owners running Windows under Boot Camp, but now there's nothing stopping you from trying them too. Let us know how this dark elixir works out in the comments below.
this is surprising.
Welcome done Apple and Microsoft , for another undertable collaboration
microsoft really needs to come out with their own multitouch mouse. oh and please be ergonomic.
No they do not, it's a silly pointless invention nobody needs.
But since they are convinced apple knows users better than them now I guess they will anyway :(
uh you are right but i like the idea of how scrolling works on magic mouse.
i like the scrolling on it too. i'd like to see one for pc's that hopefully isnt as flat as this one.
i do realize that engadget is news driven not comment driven like say slashdot, but for reals, this system is defective by design....
at wtf why am i now unverified, ive been posting on engadget for quite some time now...
Log out and log back it -- it'll prompt for a username.
"...a few sleepless nights after installing a .exe found in the murky shallows of the internet..."
Wha? These drivers come from Apple --- are they slumming in the murky shallows now?
Download the Bluetooth update direct from Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL952). Extract the Magic Mouse drivers yourself with any standard archive utility that reads RAR files (i.e., 7-Zip).
does this mouse support chording?
the mighty mouse couldn't.... :(
Hmm. I think I'll wait for official support, although I have to admit that not having proper drivers available for Windows is annoying. But, I will say that, overall, I really like the Magic Mouse with one exception - the tracking speed under OS X is too slow even when set to its highest speed setting. Besides that, it sits in the hand nicely, I love the click action, right-clicking works reliably (unlike the old Mighty Mouse), and the scrolling beats even my old Logitech VX Revolution.
I will now go through the article and downrank all the comments about the Comments System or anything not related to the article itself. I had to read almost a page of non-related comments before actually finding some that talked about the subject.
Here Here!
Fun. But what I'd like to see is some Windows or Linux drivers that actually have more gesture support than your average mouse. I was disappointed that I couldn't get this thing and access expose with a gesture.
Sounds really cool. Now; to get a multi-touch monitor or magic mouse? Both? Ludicrous!
eh, forget this mouse, Microsoft has something much better up its sleeve that it will release in 2010.

Another reply to MarkC and people with this issue, which by necessity has to go solo:
If you don't see a little blue thingy to show the replies underneath posts with replies you might have blogsmithmedia.com blocked with No|Script or similar plugin
That would be a bit confusing I imagine :)
so, has anyone actually got this to work on Windows 7 x64? (because it's not working on my system...)
@gmerin I just bought it and am running 64bit Windows 7 boot camp on my macbook pro and it's working fine. Did you get the right driver?
