Sony has always been promising "premium content" in everything they're trying to sell, but always failed to deliver. I'm guessing the premium paid service will simply mean that you get Qore. Big deal. Oh well, maybe with the extra money Sony can put PS2 compatibility and the extra 2 USB ports back on the next revision of the PS3.
Except nobody wanted to pay for it when those things WERE there.
Then they got pissed after they realized what it took to drop the price.
That pisses me off. I read some guy's comment about how he walked in to a store after the PS3 had initially dropped in price and then discovered that they didn't have BC. He then walks out and says "Sony shot themselves in the foot with that decision!" If the guy hadn't been such a cheapskate, he would've got what he wanted. Like I did.
Oh please, stop with the higher price defense. Does the cost of 2 USB ports really that much? Plus Sony is selling PS2 at $99, so the cost of the chip is hardly that expensive by this time. The bulk of the PS3 cost is the blu-ray. Sony wanted to push blu-ray hard, so they sacrificed other things to save a penny here and there. Now that blu-ray is cheap enough, Sony could've easily added those things back at the same price point. The cheapskates ones are Sony's bean counters trying to save a penny by shaving off 2 USB ports.
Dude really? Still bitching about bc and usb ports? Grow up. When they make a product like this they do focus groups, survey customers. They certainly found out that NOBODY needs 4 usb ports on a game console! What the hell are you doing playing PS2 games anyways? Just shut up about it.
@BigDave: Maybe you're the one who should shut up. I'm demanding Sony to deliver their promise. Sony promised Playstation as a complete platform, where future devices will always be backward compatible with previous software. They failed at delivering that promise. Simple as that. As for 4 USB ports, obviously you never play Rockband. Yeah, you can use hubs, but why would you reduce the user experience out of the box to save pennies on 2 extra USB ports?
I always have two USB A->mini B cables plugged into my PS3 to charge controllers since I don't have one of those neat contact chargers yet (definitely on my list of 'cool stuff I'd want to play around with though) and then I generally will plug in flash drives, keyboards, etc, as needed. Both BC and the extra USB ports are nice, and I'm glad I got the 80GB over the 40GB when I bought mine in late 2007. I don't know whether I'd be turned off from buying it without the USB ports, but then again, I don't play rck band.
"I'm a college student looking for a new laptop, but almost all of my media I receive digitally. I'm looking for a laptop, not a netbook, without an optical drive, and budget sensitive. The optical drive will just be a waste of space, when I can have thinner laptop. What's out there?"
