Spotify gets Symbian app, Nokia owners rejoice
As the official Spotify site says, "Symbian is the world's most popular smartphone platform," so it's only proper that it too gets to sip the elixir of on-demand music streaming and offline playlists. Nothing is particularly different from the iPhone or Android offering, you still require a Spotify Premium account in order to access the service on your mobile, but we're sure all those N- and E-series device owners didn't want better, they just wanted in. Lest we forget, the Samsung i8910 HD and Sony Ericsson Satio are also on that freshly minted Symbian support list. If you must know what the app looks like before pulling the trigger, slide past the break for a video demonstration.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Cool :) I would like to think it runs as seemless as the iPhone and Android.
i guess you'll be thinking for a while there tom, good luck.
SWEEET!
App works wonders, a real pleasure.
Now i just need to get a 2.5 --> 3.5 converter thingy.
The ones I have gotten all seem to play music from only one ear once you connect them.. Let me know ur progress.
Depends on the device. I used to have a Zaurus, which had a 2.5mm jack; I used an adapter, and was able to get stereo.
Spotify for president!
what the heck does spotify even mean? im pretty sure it isnt a word. contextually speaking it could mean probing i guess...
"what the heck does spotify even mean" -- Yeah, when I saw the headline I thought it was a tether-by-WiFi app like JoikuSpot.
"im pretty sure it isnt a word" -- Neither is "im", or "isnt". Or "engadget".
They are words, just not widely accepted and have no meaning. Look...I'll make a new word now....luzudijikloppy...Don't know what it means yet, maybe some kind of insult would a good use for it
"Nothing is particularly different from the iPhone or Android offering"
It's on par with the Android version. It bests the iPhone equivalent thanks to Symbian's multitasking abilities though.
Tried it for an hour...works flawless...
Does this now mean I can run symbian apps on my spotify?
took me a couple of seconds to figure that one out
Haha don't you just love when Engadget's readers point out their stupid grammatical errors? :) Nice one!
just trying it out now, seems awesome. Only problem I can see so far is that there's no way to change the volume in the app, my E63 has no volume control on the outside of the phone. That's what you get for buying a cheapo phone ... you'd think at least one of 50 odd buttons on the thing could be used for adjusting the volume!
To adjust volume on e63, press and hold function key (shift) and then press navi key up/down.
Prayers answered. Getting it now.
Gonna have to get this for my Satio (If it works on there that is)
Still waiting for Spotify in the U.S. so I don't have log into my UK VPN every few weeks. :/
Worse flawlessly on my ageing N95...
It CAN multi-task in theory, but the most recent apps are so memory intensive it's pretty pointless on anything older than 18 months. One app will just switch off to accommodate the another.
This works suprisingly well on my E71, the app even looks good which is quite rare on symbian! I tried the Spotify app on my ipod touch and couldn't get over the fact that the touch doesn't do multitaksing :(
Shame you have to use a premium account to use it on your phone.
Yup, but that's the reason it's a premium-account-only feature - Spotify have to make money somehow. This'll definitely make me seriously consider upgrading my Spotify account. Would be nice to be able to try it out on a day pass first to check the performance before committing to it for a month tho.
just loaded it up on an e71. pretty neat. on another note are there any indications one when or if nokia is going to update its business series phone? i have the e71 and absolutely love the hardware. but the OS is pretty weak. after using an iphone for an extended amount of time i cant stand being asked what connection i want to use every single time launch an app or the web browser.
The E72 is out now...
Use the app manager. You can set default access points.
Sweet, thanks engadget!
£9.99 a month is still too much for me. Halve it, and maybe I'll think about it.
Meh.
Canadians don't get Spotify.
...Grooveshark is good, though. :)
