MSI eagerly supports HD video on its MT-V887 PMP
It's been a couple months since noticing that MSI had a renewed interest in PMPs, and now the outfit is back with yet another media player. The MT-V887 takes the sleek, understated styling of the MT-V656 and ramps the display to a none-too-shabby 4.3-inches (480 x 272). Based on the Rockchip RK2728B, this guy adds the H.264 codec and 720p support to an already insane helping of media formats. In addition to all of that, you can catch the KBBL Morning Zoo Crew on its FM receiver. No words on price or availability, but you'll know as soon as we do. Get a closer look after the break.

Not too shabby display? This has a lower resolution than most smartphones. And this is a dedicated video player.
Wow. Engadget is getting all artsy and junk. The brick, snow, and dead leaves really warm up this otherwise bland photo.
"4.3-inches (480 x 272)"
.... :|
Wish they fit more pixels into that sized screen. Droid is what, 3.7 inches? 800 x 480? Cmon... I want it to look crisp. Also. Android? :)
(All this based on what Engadget posted. Click through doesn't tell me much. And I can't read the untranslated Chinese in some parts of the article.)
im pretty sure that this is the shabbiest display over 4" that people still make.
@vlad the inhaler
Actually, I've been shopping around for displays for a product for work lately, and 4.3" 280x272 is an incredibly popular size/resolution. The nice displays like the droid and even the HVGA displays in the iphone etc are actually not very common still.
Annoying, to say the least, but I found an 7" 800x480 from Seiko and they make a 4.3" module in that resolution too. They *JUST* started making them though this quarter.

"Google Wave is more fun when you have others to wave with, so please nominate people you would like to add. Keep in mind that this is a preview so it could be a bit rocky at times.
Invitations will not be sent immediately. We have a lot of stamps to lick.
Happy waving! "

What I clicked on the first comment. I thought this had been fixed.
yeah 720p is nice but it would be good to have something other than the same old 480 x 272..
A 480 x272 display on 4.3 inches? Lego pixels .. no thanks.
@JS
Not really... you figure the 13.3 inch MacBook has a pixel density of 113ppi. This 4.3 inch device has a pixel density of 128 ppi.
@JS
Unless you meant actualy rectangular shape... and not a comment on the size. In which case... disregard my previous comment, I suck cocks.
@kitsune
hey sent u an email buddy.... thanks
The issue I'm having with this is: Great support of formats. I've been looking for something that can play my HD .mkv totally legal movies. I don't really care if they play at an actual HD resolution on the screen or not... it's just on the go when I don't feel like hauling out the laptop.
But this thing comes in 4GB/8GB storage capacities. 4GB is too small for an average 720p .mkv file. And even if you get the 8GB capacity... I'm sure it'll be formatted in FAT/32... which means your limited to files below 4GB in size... which, in regards to 720p .mkv... is basically just anime.
@jlhatch While I'm not defending the utterly small internal storage sizes on this PMP, it does come with an expandable MicroSD card slot. Still, I never will understand "HD" PMPs that only have enough room for you to watch one or one and half HD movies on them.
KBBL's gonna give me something stupid!
