so.. let me get this straight...
bigger screen but same resolution = worse graphics
same reduced battery life
still can't have GBA slot (what is the excuse this time?)
much bigger and less portable.
really? Is there really that big a market for this machine? Or are Nintendo fans just sheeps?
@(Unverified)
First, a larger screen with the same resolution doest give it 'bad grapics just larger pixels
Infact it has a better battery than the original DSi,
GBA is dead in my eyes and it would just waste space on the DSi,
and the DSi XL isnt aimed for hardcore nintendo fans, it sold more coz it was aimed to the elderly generation with sight difficulties..
@(Unverified) You're really hitting on them for putting in a bigger screen with same resolution? There's a difference between watching a game on a 50 inch tv, and a 1 inch projector screen, even if they have the same resolution.
@(Unverified) I agree, I dont see the point of this. Lets make a portable system... less portable? Whats next? Lets reduce the MPG of a car by adding extra weight?
"Is there really that big a market for this machine? Or are Nintendo fans just sheeps?"
Who are you, the explanation police? Nintendo's supposed to be up and ready to give you a reasonable explanation, an explanation at all, on how they're supposed to market, sell, or appeal with their products? God forbid they put a second power button on the back of device, and it's time to mann the pitchforks...
No, but go ahead, call all the people who bought this thing "sheep". You're really driving the point home, there.
@(Unverified)
say that to people with 50inch t.vs (me) trying to watch SD, saying that a larger screen on DS hardly is enough to make the pixelation bad enough to actually mark it as a con.
Okay, admittedly the PSP Go is far from perfect and is priced too high. Still, it's much smaller and lighter than the normal PSP and features other cool stuff such as onboard storage and Bluetooth. It's a really nice gadget. So why the hell does a simply bigger version of the DSi sell 5 times as much? Are there so many old people in Japan or are they simply buying everything that has Nintendo written on it? I mean, come on, that is the same old DSi as always, just less pocketable.
@Yoshi1080:
Or maybe it's because the normal PSP is more functional and versatile than that PSPgo, and at a cheaper price.
@Yoshi1080 Because the DS line of game systems are more fun than the PSP line maybe?
@Yoshi1080: probably because the bigger DSi still plays all the DS and DSi games you've already got, while the smaller PSP won't play any of them, and also means you can't get discounts on new titles or buy (or sell) anything used? Just a thought.
PSP is doing really well at the moment in Japan, just not the 'Go' variety. I really think people are just looking at it thinking, yeah, PSP is great... but I'll have the better, cheaper, and slightly larger model thanks.
Obviously Nintendo's player base is getting so old they need the bigger screen to read it properly.
@(Unverified)
Funny. Normally Nintendo detractors state that the Nintendo's target audience is nuthin' but a bunch of kids.
@(Unverified) Honestly, yes. I pulled out my original DS the other day and didn't realize how tiny the screen is to my non-child eyes. :)
As someone who doesn't own a DS this might be my first
@(Unverified) You are giving him a hard time for writing that when you come with the most rediculous comparison? Wow, way to show...
Anyway... I agree with both, but I think that we all know that Nintendo isn't in it for the graphics... For any other company larger pixels would most likely equal worse graphics
I read the article and I'm still none the wiser as to what they found.
It's a dsi for older people so they can play those brain train games and get nintendo a few more sales. (a better method of making profit would have been having the wii in stock when it was all the rave, but hey they are still here so their system works for them.)
So no it's not for anybody else really, now the q is, would you buy one for granma?
@Wwhat budddddy! haven't seen you troll the forums in who know HOW long! :D
Okay what the hell Nintendo.
I'm sticking with my original DS. It may be old and the light may not be adjustable but at least I'm not fucked over in the ass by a GBA game sticking out halfway and with it not being all shiny, I don't need to worry about fingerprints all over, either. e_e
@Denji
Then get a DSi. They are so much better than both the DS and the DS Lite. How many GBA games do you really play?
@JXCGunrunna
in what way is DSi better? or justify the extra money?
maybe the 2 of 0.3 MP cameras really are selling point?
@JXCGunrunna
Megaman battle network 1-6, all the Sonic Advance series, a few final fantasy, I also use a homebrew memory expansion for DSLinux. I also enjoy playing Pokemon Fire Red occasionally, too. As well as several of the ported Super Mario games for it.
I also play the LoZ: LTTP port as well for the GBA often. Oh, and don't forget the original NES port too. Then there are two Kirby games I have as well. Oh, and then there is Advance Wars. And the Mega Man Zero series.
Oh, and also don't forget Castlevainia and ChuChu Rocket. Earthworm jim, harvest moon, sword of mana, sim city, oh and then golden sun, too!
@TotallyNerd ROFL, I pressed reply on (Unverified) who answered to the first comment... yeah, this seems to work nicely...
OMG... sorry for my posts... but this comment system is an absolute mess!?!
@TotallyNerd
I blame the LHC
I'm sorry but why should I buy this, does Nintendo just not like high resolution screens. We're in the 21st century where I can get a phone with an 800x480 screen. Nintendo could have at least quadrupled the screen res so that the games render properly (i.e. 1 pixel=4 pixels) and support high resolution DSiWare.
@elliotnecros you shouldn't buy it, unless you have sight issues.
Incredible how people try to destroy what they don't understand.
@elliotnecros You shouldn't buy it, because no one's making you. God, why even ask the question in the first place? =\
@(Unverified) I'm not trying to destroy the DSi LL, but technology evolves and I did make a valid point. Adding cameras and a bigger screen doesn't always help, but if the screen and cameras was higher resolution then it would be acceptable. Making products for "niche markets" is tricky so to allow for success they should make it more appealing to the main market as well.
Haha
"PSPgo sold around 28,000 units"
Hilarious. Fail some more Sony, fail some more.
I'm lost, what special thing was I supposed to find in that teardown?
A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.
@chadwsmithcom
the definition of "fun" is highly subjective, My 3 year old neighbour had a lot of fun with a tennis ball, and so did my cat, Does that it's more fun than say... another product?
over 40 million PSP already sold WW, i doubt it's not 'fun'
So.... It's exactly the same as the DSi - only with bigger screens. Alrightly then.
@N900
who am I??? It's called a "consumer",
The resolution sucks for a large display of that sze.
Lego pixels? No thanks.
