This camera just magically lost all it's appeal.

I agree, it looks like they've gone and super glued some shiny things on. It's kind of sad, like something's died inside :)
The irony of all of this is that olympus have taken a brilliant idea and have over inflated it, over priced it, and now over jewelled it.
Shame I actually wanted one fo the original models, shame not even Kevin Spacey is going to be able save Olympus on this one :(
@Diesel1313
This was done by CrystalRoc not Olympus. Idiot.
OMG - that is like sooooo gorgeous!?
Arghhh - sorry ... I've just thrown up all over my keyboard.
My tummy hurts.
I blame Crunk for this.
I don't understand... The camera makers have abandoned lead glass in their lenses, for the sake of environment, at the expense of image quality. Now they're applying lead glass under the name of "crystal" for a facelift. Cr@p.
@grantyale & Diesel1313
Just to clarify, poor Olympus cannot be blamed for this, it is those third party Swarovski-fetishists that are "upgrading" these cameras -- that poor E-P1 should be pittied. Hopefully someone will put it out of its misery.
can't someone take those crystals off of gadgets and drop them over Austria?
Sad indeed. They put these cheap stones on everything these days and all it does is make it uglier and raise the price.
Now all it needs is a matching shoulder strap and it's a mini purse.
@Willen it will match my michael jackson glove perfectly

++ to that.
I think Panasonic have got it right with the GF1, keeping it utilitarian instead of fetishising a otherwise great product.
Its a damn shame.
Its A Third Party (as has been mentioned before) fashionless group called Crystal Roc.
geeez
What kind of sad lost person buys, or even makes crap like this?
REVISION:
Apologies its a 3rd Party MOD ,but you know what it still sucks, as does the bog standard overpriced version of this camera.
I saw this and remembered the story I read somewhere where war photographers started insisting that cameras be colored black, because sunlight glinting off silver finish made them too much of a target. You'd be dead in a day if you took this one into the trenches... if an enemy combatant didn't get you, someone on your own side would probably shoot you anyway.
If others only saw how crystals are insignificantly made...
Oh how thrilling! Now we can ALL have that "just bedazzled my gadget" sensation, with all the hard work! Giggles! *puke*. The crystal thing is repulsive on almost everything, why do people think it looks anything other than gaudy and repulsive?
@Valicore On the other hand, why do some people think the intent is *anything but* that? Not everybody wants their stuff to look plain and black or grey all the time. I'm not the kind of guy who blings out his stuff, but who am I to judge someone else for it? My boringness doesn't have to be everybody else's style too.
That said, Dekoden.com sells a kit of Swarovski crystals that would have made this camera look like this for 126 yen, or about $1.50.
The answer to all of you geeks posting here.
You all are wondering who buys such cameras and why Swarovski spoils otherwise good equipment with shiny shit.
If you spend more time around "normal" girls (not the ones that can program or know that Android is not human), you will be amazed how most of them are addicted to this shiny crap. I think this camera makes a great Christmas present for a lady (and if it was a point-and-shoot covered in crystals, it wouldn't make a difference).
That's why Swarovski is making money, like any other company.
... I can't believe I was serious....
Ahhh....the goggles they do nothing!
