Sony Ericsson Satio sales suspended after bugs discovered
Adding insult to Sony Ericsson's injurious bottom line, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U shops (the UK's largest mobile phone retailers) have halted sales of the SE's Symbian-powered Satio handset after a high number of customer returns and complaints. A "software glitch" reportedly causes Sony Ericsson's flagship device to power down when users try to access certain applications -- unfortunately, the issue can't be patched via an over-the-air update. A little digging into CPW discussion forums reveals multiple complaints of freezes, crashes, under-performing batteries, and bizarre interface behavior. Both the Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U will offer "new phones" to customers fed up with their Satio. Richard Dorman, senior marketing manager at Sony Ericsson, concedes the issue and assures us that it should be sorted by Christmas. Until then, you can still purchase the handset directly from Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile... but really, why would you? The Satio's not the only dubiously-spec'd 12 megapixel cameraphone on the market.

I own a Satio, and I want to say that I have been doing a LOT of research on this, and it seems that the problem is with the ones that are CARRIER BRANDED. Carrier branding ruins EVERY SINGLE PHONE ON THE MARKET (in the ENTIRE WORLD) due to poor software, bad add-ons, bloatware, etc. It's the worst on Symbian phones, imo.
I have the unbranded version and while I still think that there are many bugs to work out, it is still very stable and usable and I have not experienced any of the issues that are being reported to CPW.
I agree. I remember debranding my SE Z750a to the original Z750i firmware. It re-activated the GPS module and other options locked by the AT&T firmware. Runs WAY faster and ended up becoming more stable. Buy your phones unbranded, folks! You'd be better off.
@Zero SiX
Hm...
Except Carphone Warehouse and Phones4You or whatever, sell unbranded phones, which is without carrier branding.
OK cool, so you're a Weblogs, Inc. blog ... subsidiary of AOL ... who apparently acquired the rights to use Looney Tunes when it became part of Time Warner. But the graphic is only meh. : )
All these problems are not if operators do not put their own settings in all our smart phones bought with subscriptions. I bought all my SE smartphones Cash and I have never had a problem. Remember, these battery problems and freez exclusively occurred in UK
@Eternity
Ahh, nope that I didn't. I had a 2GB stick in mine and never tried a 4GB.
This is what I don't get with Nokia/SE. It took them forever to ship stuff to the US, yet they cannot even beta test properly. They "fix" bugs by releasing a new handset with a +1 increment in the model number, forcing users to buy a new model.
SE, just bring out your X10 please, and let google deal with your incompetence (the OS).
WOW, anyone noticed that the Archos 5 Android has LOTS of such bugs ??
It still has and still Amazon is selling it.
I dont get this world ...
just an example: Everytime I wake it up from suspend, the A5Android always freezes up which leads to rebooting which takes almost a minute ...
Well, now when is this coming to the U.S.?
