ASUS' USB 3.0-equipped P6X58D Premium motherboard now available
Eager to get in all the USB 3.0 hard drives, SSD drives and... other hard drives cropping up these days? Then you're in luck, as ASUS' brand new, USB 3.0-ready P6X58D Premium motherboard is now finally available to order. Of course, being an early adopter doesn't come cheap, and this particular motherboard will run you a hefty $309.99 from Newegg. That will get you a board that runs with the best of 'em, however, including support for a Core i7 processor, room for up to 24GB of RAM, three PCI-Express 2.0 slots, a pair of 6Gb/s SATA interfaces, four plain old USB 2.0 ports and, most importantly, two for USB 3.0. Setting up a rig? Feel free to let us know how it works out in comments.

I don't think this is barely news. I've been using Gigabyte P55A-UD3P for 2 weeks now. The mainboard has 2 Sata 3.0, 2 USB 3.0, 8 USB 2.0 and it's around $200. Granted that I don't have any USB 3.0 devices to test but overall it works great!
@Far Far Away Your mobo is a 1156 socket, this is a 1366. If this was another 1156 it would not be news, but this is the first sata III/usb 3.0 mobo that can use the tri-channel memory i7s (bloomfield). I would say this is news if you were waiting on this for a new bloomfield based build.
@crumby99
Actually, the first one of those was from Gigabyte; the GA-X58A-UD7 which has been out since 19/11. Engadget must have missed that.
@Ant32bit Are you sure? I can't find any place where you can purchase that mobo. I'll agree that gigabyte has had a press release for their board out there for a while, but the asus is the first I've seen that you can actually buy (and is in stock).
@crumby99
I'm not sure we're in the same country, but I can purchase it at my local computer shop (CentreCom) for AUD450.
@Ant32bit I'm in the U.S. and the gigabyte motherboard actually just popped up on newegg.com a few hours ago.
@crumby99
What?! How did we get something before the US?!
I'll trade in my EVGA E758 when Gigabyte / ASUS / EVGA sell a board with a minimum of six USB 3.0 ports.
@Smurf
Just get an addon card like this http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkte/zubehoer/usb30_host_controller_card/index_en.html?id=13
Or similar.
My name is Bada. Asus MadaBada.
USB3 pcie cards are already in the shop, example from germany http://www.alternate.de/html/solrSearch/toArticle.html?articleId=384277&query=usb3&referer=detail&link=solrSearch%2Flisting.productDetails
Well, mine is set to be delivered on Tuesday (12/8). I'll let 'yall know how it goes.
Well, I bought it, threw it in a haf 922 case and plugging everything in .... works fine. No complaints. I don't have any devices that I can test the USB 3.0 or a HDD that can get close to testing the saturation point of SATA II, so its tough to tell how those ports behave.
Well, I guess I'll just sit here with my fancy motherboard, twiddle my thumbs, and wait for the future, because I've apparently showed up prematurely.
