Acer's far from being
a major player in the smartphone space, but to call it irrelevant would be grossly inaccurate. Up until now, however, the outfit has relied largely on Microsoft's mobile OS to power its phones, though even it seems shocked by the warm reception the Android-powered
Liquid has received. According to the company's own Aymar de Lencquesaing, Acer recognizes that "there is definitely momentum behind Android," and he continued by stating that "the pace is faster than most would have anticipated one year ago." He went on to proclaim that the company was apt to pump out 8 to 10 phones in 2010, with next year's lineup being "much more balanced" in terms of the amount of Windows Mobile vs. Android handsets. Look out, world -- Google just might take over another huge portion of your life while you're fixated on the next great
Black Friday deal.
Google really, really need to be careful how many companies/handsets use Android.
Great if they keep a tight reign on things, but if there not careful they will begin to run into the same multi handset problems hurting Winmo

Its got nothing to do with the handset but the OS.
@(Unverified) So true. I guess Google just want people to use that Google search field that appears at the top of the screen on all Android handsets. Remember Google's motto: "Play to your strengths." And their strength was, is and always will be, search, baby, Search!
(Because like the human brain, if you know it all, you can answer it all, whether it's "2+2=4" or "How do I get from 94301 to 90210?" or "US Swine Flu Risk winter 2009")
Capiche?
One of the main bug bears of Winmo is the fact they support soo many handsets. this makes software integration VERY difficult.
@Oflife More examples of intelligent 'search': "Meet John Smith at 11 tomorrow morning." or "Wake me at 6:30am every weekday until further notice." or "Play Piece of Shit Car by Adam Sandler" or "Find ATM near me"
@(Unverified) Thats not true. WinMo and Android are very different beasts. The open source nature of Android allows it to be used across many platforms without issue even if each developer decides to add some personal flare. The base unit is still running android and all the applications are made for the OS, not the phone.
The more phones the better for Google

I actually believe one of Wino's few advantages is the fact that there are so many different form factors to chose from. Winmo's problems are more due to Microsoft's failure to keep up with the modern smartphone OS's. Android doesn't really have this problem, so I don't think having multiple handsets to chose from will hurt them in the long run.

Microsoft have just been using the same old $hit for so long, that is why winmo has to be hidden behind a manufacturers ui to be useable.
Android is new and developing all the time, they are way better than MS
They just make computers???
Oh ASUS, you just have to enter every market don't you?
@Jake Root Woops I meant Acer. Stupid me!
I like how Acer shows that you CAN show love for more than 1 OS, balance is good :)
I've heard this before.
This day and age, can we maybe say the mobile market has too many choices for phones out there?
Instead perhaps companies could concentrate on sending out phones that are unlocked from the factory and while they are at it, force “All” carriers to use SIM card phones.
Just a half serious thought. ;-)
@Abyss Even if you are only half serious, there are a few problems with what you're saying. I'm not sure how many people wanna spend full price on a handset. The original iPhone was the exception, not the rule. The fact that most off-contract handsets cost $600 or more makes it a losing proposition. I paid less than that for my laptop on eBay, and it's a very good machine.
As for SIM cards, well, not every cell company (at least in the US) uses SIM cards.
You can't force CDMA to use a SIM card, so in the USA half the carriers do and half don't. Cause only AT&T and TMobile use GSM and hence SIM.
Well at least that is my understanding
Probably all GSM though. Bleh. I mean, I know that GSM is better than CDMA in a lot of ways, but I am currently in a family plan on Verizon Wireless, and I can't change- plus AT&T and T-Mobile have NO coverage where I live. None at all, let alone 3G coverage. Sprint only has 2g, and barely that,so Verizon is really the only one that I can use.
@AndroidRokz
What...the Droid and Droid Eris doesn't tickle your fancy?
Gimme
I would like to win 8 out of the possible 10. Pick me.
If only.
Pick me!
Outstanding!!!!!!!! You guys rock!
My only problems with having a non HTC android phone is it not being updated when all the rest are, lots of handsets are still stuck on 1.5 instead of 1.6 and now eclair is on the Droid, so we have all these different versions at once
They are just a bunch of idiots, scavengers who eat your money and more over never come back to you.
These dont look half bad.
ee
Cool, but please make better WinMo phones too :)
they need to release the liquid in the US on Tmobile network!
When are HTC going to bring out a new Android phone with a big screen and decent cortex A8 or new A9 processor? They are falling behind with the Motorola Droid out already, Acer Liquid soon to be available and Sony Ericsson X10 on its way.
C'mon HTC, give us something to lust after. Even if it isn't as big as the HD2, and give it a dedicated camera button and don't let the camera lens stick out like HD2's or have its problems with pink coloring in the middle of photos.
More onboard storage is required too, I mean HD2 only has 2GB and Nokia's N97, N900 and N97 mini have 32GB onboard plus microSD slot.
@Wesley
I meant HD2 only has 2GB microSD card and like 500mb or so onboard memory, pathetic ain't it.
they make phones too?
wow, who knew??
Sign me up and send me one.
I hope Acer make phones for US carrier subsidized.
Envy looks sick I want one
AWESOME. I really want a T9 style number pad again. When I moved from dumbphone to smartphone I lost some usability. I now have to look at my phone to text. Seeing that small slider on the right is making me all hot and bothered.
