HTC HD2 capacitive stylus just around the bend?
Ah, ha! Remember that curious patent application that popped up from HTC back in mid-August? You know, the one dealing specifically with a "capacitive stylus?" If UK e-tailer Clove is to be believed, one of those very devices will soon be shipping for the wide-faced HD2, though little else about the product is known. In fact, we're told that "price, specification and availability" are still being confirmed, although a preliminary asking price of £15 ($25) is posted. So, anyone already getting hot and bothered just waiting for this, or what?

This is sure to go great with the HD2 im about to win here.
A 7000-in-1 chance of winning? I LIKE THOSE ODDS.
No, this will go great with the HD2 that I'M about to win.
17 bloody pounds?????? For a piece of metal stick? Are you kidding me?
@(Unverified) it's not just a stick of metal though. It's got some weird-ass surface on the end. Or something.
That is so expensive for a stylus.
interesting!
Sorry guys, but Josh already sent me the e-mail saying the HD2 en route to me. I even have the tracking number :)
@Sneakz
It said "Five" winners will win one HD2 each, typo? :
@Sneakz
Anyway obvious troll is obvious. 11:59 EST is the deadline =D
@Sneakz proof or it didn't happen.
@Sneakz
I just don't understand the point of these kinds of comments...It isn't humorous or witty. Oh, and its obviously wrong (Anyone who read the post knows it doesn't even end till 11:59PM ET)
The post wasn't smart, funny, clever, useful, or anything else productive.
There are just some things about the internet I'll never understand.
@Sneakz
I award you "the douche bag of the day metal" for that troll. Your a winning douche in my book!
The stylus has been on Devicewire.co.uk for a while, there is a picture there too.
THIS WILL GO GREAT WITH MY NEW PHONE. FOR FREE.
7,000 entries and only 5 phones. I totally won one of them.
@mwagner26
Touche...a preemptive whine.
I will be happy when the stylus is dead
@Hydra
I did then I taught about Handwriting on a device
@Hydra The stylus is already "dead" if you want it to be. There's no need for a stylus on a device with a capacitive screen. But shunning the technology altogether is kind of dumb I think, for that reason. You don't need a stylus anymore, so why would you wish its death?
If the image on Devicewire.co.uk is true then its the same as the Dagi Stylus!
I've just made a video about this stylus together with the Pogo Sketch combined with the HTC HD2:

I actually kinda hope the HTC one will be different, the Dagi one works but I want a tiny tip instead of a big one with a dot in the middle. Sometimes the HTC HD2 registers a different area than the red dot, which sucks. Its still much better than finger work if you have to select small items on the display though!
@tex777
Thanks!

This isn't the stylus to be patented.
Most of these say there's 5 (FIVE) to give away. Only a few of those games say 1 (ONE).
it'll be interesting since it would probably bring in more people to buy a stylus for this and maybe the iphone so they can get higher accuracy.
CAN'T LET YOU TOUCH THAT, CAPACITIVE SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Ouch, $25 for a stylus >.<
I hate styli, nay I despise them.
Charging $25 for a stylus should be a crime. Same thing goes to MS for designing a crappy default UI that requires usage of stylus.
MS. I don't care what you do but hire some of those UI designers from HTC ASAP!
The problem with this stylus is going to be where the hell are you going to put it when you're done?
When I'm done using my stylus on my SCH-i760 it slides into the casing of the phone for easy storing. If I had to put my stylus in my pocket it would bend so easily, not only that it would feel weird having something pointy and metal in my pockets...
Is that a capacitive stylus in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
At last. You try finger painting rows of Chinese charatcters on your mobile device. Not impossible, but a stylus is a big help. HTC is a Taiwanese company after all, the offical language there is Chinese (Mandarin with traditional charatcters), so I guess this is something of a priority for them.
I'm not interested in capacitive styli until they develop the tech to produce a smaller tip. I'm thinking something like the tip of a fine Sharpie. Soft enough that it doesn't scratch the screen. The cherry on top will be Wacom's pressure-sensitive take on it after the fine tip is fine-tuned.
Want!
This is just a rebranded Dagi Clear Stylus (http://www.dagi.com.tw/) NOT HTC's patent pending stylus.
@PaladinX13
That's too bad. I would have expected a sharp point on the patended one, to allow for writing on the screen, not just pointing, tapping and dragging.
@(Unverified)
But that's what he's saying... This one ISN'T the patent pending one... So maybe the patent pending one will improve the tech ^_^
Does the HD2's firmware even have transcriber in it? I thought they took it out.
Can't you just use a any metal or conducting carbon stylus to get one that works on capacitance based screens?
As for the price, have you seen how much a regular replacement stylus often costs? They sell them for incredible amounts
I don't know who is producing that stylus, but it's not HTC. Their tech support answered my question about it:
I understand how important this sort of information can be. At this point in time, HTC has made no announcement of any sort regarding a stylus that works with capacitive touch screens. As such, no information is available about when such a thing might be available. For the latest news about HTC and HTC devices, please continue to check out www.htc.com.
64GB around or just after Christmas time now please Zune. Get it done!
