Nintendo Wii has lion's share of female console gamers

Nintendo's been doing a bit of digging and it turns out it's already won the console wars. If we're only talking about the ladies, that is. A whopping 80% of American female primary gamers (the person who primarily uses the console rather than the occasional dabblers) do their thing on the Wii, which we see as a clear indication to the graphics-obsessed Xbox 360 and PS3 developers that women prefer their games to be fun to play, rather than just look at. Maybe if we also stopped dressing female characters in swimsuits, they'd find non-Wii games relatable too -- that's just a guess though, probably wrong.

Thanks Nintendo for going from awesome to facepalm, with your constant new hardware revisions and giant accessories for every different game.

I guarantee you they didnt really go with the Wii controller for the motion sensitivity as much as they figured out how much money they could make off of a dollar's worth of plastic molded into a circle or a gun and then sell it to the masses at 15-20 dollars a piece. -_-

@NCase I don't think that's possible, you're talking about a mainly masculine and technology savvy readership here. Unfortunately it has a reputation of being quite demeaning to everything that is not your average tech loving joe.

Also, it's possible to have an Xbox360 or PS3 and enjoy games that are FUN to play with and somewhat challenging, things I had a hard time finding on my Wii. If the game's pretty, cool, but I don't really care either way as long as it has the potential to keep me playing for more than 1h.

But seriously, as a girl, I really struggle to find exclusive games on the PS3 that I actually want to play. However when it comes to the Wii, it's a totally different story.

But the funniest thing is the ability to change the clothing of a character makes a game go from kinda want to really want. I guess some of the games targeted towards girls that throw in that gimmick are working for me...

I personally know 3 women that bought the Wii specifically for Wii-Fit. It's just another craze diet, like the Atkins one that made people dangerously cut down on carbs.

Except this time they just think it's the Wii-Fit when it's really the exercise that they should have been doing the whole time (and would get more benefit from actually doing the regular kind).
