Nintendo Wii has lion's share of female console gamers

Nintendo's been doing a bit of digging and it turns out it's already won the console wars. If we're only talking about the ladies, that is. A whopping 80% of American female primary gamers (the person who primarily uses the console rather than the occasional dabblers) do their thing on the Wii, which we see as a clear indication to the graphics-obsessed Xbox 360 and PS3 developers that women prefer their games to be fun to play, rather than just look at. Maybe if we also stopped dressing female characters in swimsuits, they'd find non-Wii games relatable too -- that's just a guess though, probably wrong.

now that my xbox rrod'd on me... my wii is actually getting a bit of use...

the saddest part is that my assassins creed 2 pre-order showed up in the mail 2 days after my xbox died....

I read this this morning and now I'm really feeling empathic. My PS3 just YLOD'd and now I can't play Assassin's Creed II either! I guess, it's time for me to start cranking up the Wii as well...

Women started off with the Wii because of their kids. Wii is the best console for young kids. And, of course mothers like it when video games keep their kids active also - makes them feel like better moms.

Then they realized they could play tennis and bowling with their kids, and then came Wii Fit. Now they can be the Biggest Loser, do yoga, and have JIllian Michaels kick their butts on the Wii. And, when you have little ones, you can't always get to the gym. Its the perfect stay at home mom console!

No. Really? Gamers prefer to play fun games rather than simply looking at beautiful graphics? That's mind boggling! So you think that people who prefers the Xbox 360 and/or the PS3 over the Wii was strictly because of the graphics?! You think that people who has no interest in the Wii is because they don't like "fun to play" games?!

Engadget should stick with reporting the numbers rather than trying to interpret them.

I really don't like how they group "gamers" all together, like how solitare, sudoku, and puzzle gamers are the same as gamers who play FPS shooters online 4+ hours a night and spend 100+ hours on one RPG. Walmart and Nieman Marcus don't mix up their customer base; the Wii and PS3/Xbox 360 shouldn't either. (however, I hope the 360 + natal steals alot from Wii once people realize that for a few extra bucks they get HD, great selection of said FPS and RPG games, and a great media system)
