Nook ship date slips to January 11th, supply chain managers weep
Hardware construction is a funny thing. Sometimes, regardless of the money you throw at something, you just can't get products to come together any quicker. Evidently that's the case with Barnes & Noble's Nook, which has seen its estimated ship date slip from today to sometime after the holidays, and now to January 11th. There's still a sliver of hope that you'll be able to snag one from a high-traffic retail location on December 7th, but unless you're planning on abandoning ship and helping the Kindle have its new best month ever, the realistic choices are pretty clear: a) pay Tickle Me Elmo-like prices on eBay or b) drop an IOU in a nicely wrapped box, preferably with a cute puppy. We suggest the latter.
[Thanks, Dave and Wes]
P.S. - We're also hearing that pre-orders (even those placed moments after it was announced) are also being pushed back, though hopefully they'll still be received before December 25th.

Allow me...
I ordered one 10/20 and it already included overnight shipping (they boasted that and a free book, included on the nook, as the incentives for pre-ordering at that time.)
I got the e-mail today wherin the statement "and
we expect to have it to you by December 9th" was overlooked by myself. I saw the subject "Your nook is shipping soon" and since the status online, even as of this writing, had not changed from "shipping 11/30", I assumed it was just giving me a heads up that it was shipping today. The new arrival date was kind of embedded in the e-mail in my opinion.
So really they are giving people $10 for delaying the shipment of the nook, which the original early adopters laied down money for, to an unknown date that may or may not be before December 9th.
I was very excited about the nook and really do not appreciated the way B&N has waited until the end of the business day, THE day it was supposed to ship out, to let those that apply know that it is being pushed back.
They obviously knew prior to this.
i did it all for the nookie (come on) the nookie (come on)

IM tired of waiting for a good e-reader lol! this is the only good only i can test before i have to buy! :)
This headline is pretty misleading. The ship date of 1/11/2010 is for orders placed now. Earlier preorders are still shipping any day now with expected delivery by 12/9/2009 (which is delayed a whole two days from the original estimate).
Dont forget the air-holes in the box for the puppy
With the Kindle, You get 30 days to try it out and if you don't like it, you can send it back for a full refund!!! At first the NOOK looks cool. A color touch screen on the bottom with a EINK display.
Once you start thinking about it later on, you start to wonder, why? Who cares. Is this something that's really needed? With EINK, it looks like a Paperback book. It's nice to read, easy on the eye's, especially when reading for hours. A cheap Book light is all you need if you want to read in the Dark.
My Kindle doesn't need a recharge for a couple weeks, and I'm reading Daily!!! That nook has to power 2 screens, and that color one will use far more power then that EINK display. I'd say far less battery life. Need some real reviews on the Nook!!! I like a real button keyboard over that of touching the screen. Which is one of the things I don't like about the IPHONE. I'd want a pop out keyboard. Do I really need to see book Covers in COLOR?!?! I don't miss that at all.
Color EINK would be nice for some people. EBook readers need to get cheaper though, like $199, or even $99, and going COLOR will increase costs. Most books I read have ZERO colors, so again I'm not missing anything. I can see like a Kindle DX with Color. Seeing Color PDF screens, Color for School Text Books, that type of thing I can see COLOR being useful. Getting rid of a real heavy backpack full of school text books for a light Ereader would be a good thing.
IMO, the only thing interesting about the nook is "android".
1) two screens instead of 1 pixelqi hybrid display
2) even then, the screen is/would-be too small (9" or 10" being the ideal)
3) IIRC, no video-out (should have DVI-I, IMO)
4) IIRC, no USB with keyboard/mouse/trackball/trackpad support (nor storage, game controller, networking, etc. dongles)
5) I seem to recall it doesn't have a 3G (nor 4G) option, either ... but I'll be happy to be wrong about that one
Fix all that, and I'll be interested. Otherwise, I'm just going to buy an Entourage eDGe (though, that one needs #1 and #3 as well, but at least it's 2 screens are an appropriate size).
I think the whole delay is caused by FCC. The same story might go for IREX and all other readers that have 3G connection. I found this in zdnet blog: http://talkback.zdnet.com/5208-12553-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=72159&messageID=1396271&tag=col1;tbTools
