Android 2.0.1 SDK materializes, Droid getting it in 'coming weeks'
If you're looking for the fast, fun, and easy way to "enhance the user experience" on your Droid this holiday season, look no further than the Android 2.0.1 update that Verizon just slipped us some info on. We don't have an exact drop date at this point, but we're told that Droid owners can expect an over-the-air package in the "coming weeks" -- and most notably, changes will include improved camera autofocus and better voice reception. Since these particular fixes are presumably device-specific, it's interesting that this is being done in lockstep with an official Android trunk release -- but all Google's saying is that the underlying platform contains "several bug fixes and behavior changes, such as application resource selection based on API level and changes to the value of some Bluetooth-related constants." Good stuff.Update: Google's got a changelog posted -- check it out. Nothing that's going to blow your mind.

Yawn. Text me when they add multitouch.
@httph2rtnblogspotcom
I have multitouch on my Droid already. ...yes pinch and zoom multi-touch. The only app that I don't have multi-touch in is google maps. Otherwise pretty much everything else has it. Just get the right browser and image viewer.
But the funny thing is, I miss it so little its more of an annoyance for most things. I'd rather browser with one hand for instance.
@httph2rtnblogspotcom
Whats the big deal about multitouch?
Going from a phone that had multitouch (iPhone) to the droid, I can tell you that you won't miss it that much, if at all. Plus, there are 3rd party apps that support multitouch and gestures (dolphin browser to name one).
Tap to zoom is much more efficient (IMHO) and the only other app that you would remotely want multitouch on is the Google Navigation, but it orients and zooms itself anyway so its not REALLY needed.
@PBB
"Google Navigation, but it orients and zooms itself anyway so its not REALLY needed."
I don't know about YOU but my Droid just orients and zooms by my staring at it with fiery intention. Then it just does what I want it to. :-D
Don't care. where's the update for the hero?!
I wish I could understand all that stuff on the Android site, but I'm hoping for an update on my Droid, I love it but some bugs drive me nuts
Anyone else having these problems?
-Messaging application locking up (rendering phone useless) for 30-60 seconds upon waking from sleep
-Soft keyboards not working or activating while the rest of the messaging application works fine
-Tapping a link or button only to have the page fly down to the bottom as if you violently swiped the page
-When waking up, the backlight turns on but the screen remains black , forcing me to remove the battery
That said I know I'm prone to bugs being an early adopter and those are the only ones I can think of that affect day to day use, not complaining just wondering if I got a dud.

want some cheese with that whine?

Yes please, I don't have any in my fridge right now and these burgers suck without it

it's on it's way.

I've not had any of those problems. I bought my Droid a few days after release and still no problems. The voice search can get hung up sometimes though.

I honestly think that the screen scrolling down is just something that happens with touch screen devices. I used to have the same thing happen every now and then on all 3 models of the iPhone as well.
@(Unverified) i'm a no, yes, yes, no. but when your keyboard freezes up, open the slide-out keyboard and close it again. yes, it's annoying, but it works for me...
@(Unverified) I would say that you should try your luck at getting it exchanged for another one. I have had my Droid since say one, and with heavy use the only problem that I've noticed of the ones you mention is the browser scrolling to the bottom (but it happens VERY rarely). My friend got a Droid that was having very strange issues, and since he got it replaced he hasn't seen any issues at all.
@(Unverified) I get the message app lockup as you describe
any word on multitouch or is that a done deal (never gonna happen).
@ImDaIllest
Multi-Touch is built into 2.0. Just not the core programs included. So the stock browser doesn't have it. But the Dolphin browser does.
Personally, I think I prefer a simple magnifying glass soft key but its totally up to you. It works and can pinch and zoom on my Droid right now.
@djt
Anyway to jailbreak/hack those programs in yet?
@shadowj0
The core programs like Maps? Not yet but they will just be up on the Android market when they become available. No hacking will be needed. Thats the joy of Android. Don't forget that you can use plenty of 3rd party apps with multi-touch. But seriously, try it out for a week. You won't really miss multi-touch very much.
I thought it was going to be a big nuisance for me by not having it. Now my iPod Touch seems like the nuisance because I have to browse with two hands.
Dolphin web browser from the market. Multitouch.
Does this mean wireless bluetooth calling support, no more tickets for me for using my phone while driving. Thanks Google (insert cheesy smile here < >)
I've almost been with my Droid for a month now. It's a harmonious relationship so far.
Looking forward to the update.
Yes, the Motorola Droid camera auto focus sucks when you are near an object. In order to take a good picture up close, at the moment you actually need to switch to macro manually or the picture will come out blurry. Just wish they would also include the ability to send sounds with pictures in MMS.
Engadget-not reporting on the FULL story!!
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-1.6.html
there's some 1.6 love too folks. (Gesture API anyone?)
When is Google going to enable support for OpenGL ES 2.0? The Droid has capable hardware, and being able to execute shaders on a cell phone is a dream.
My GPS wouldn't work today! Anyone else have this happen. I had just installed the Google Maps Update. I'll play with it in the morning.
This patch is useless, IMHO...
@httph2rtnblogspotcom
Do you own a Droid?
If you replied "Yes" I am assuming that your answer to "Have you used the camera?" would be "No."
I have a Motorola Milestone (aka Motorola Droid). Will this update be available for us here in Europe too?
@Scrotum Milestone and DROID have not the same system, i mean one is GSM and the other is CDMA
Great, now fix the camera
If you got the Motorola Milestone....YES, you can upgrade too -- upgrade to (non-multitouch) tap zoom like everyone of us here in US. :-D
gud news! Also try Android OS 2.0 Emulator on Windows.

What about the HTC ERIS? I love my phone but an update would be nice, and you can't seem to get a straight answer out of anyone at HTC or Verizon.
The reason why I kept my G1 coz "theres a hack app for that"......
when will this phone be with Android 2.1?
