Artificial lens implant promises to give patients 'HD vision'
Implanted lenses may be old hat compared to newfangled sight restoration techniques involving radiation beams and teeth, but it looks like some eye surgeons in the UK have now come up with a few new tricks that promise to let patients see better than ever. The new process apparently starts out like a standard procedure for cataracts, but makes use of lenses made from light-sensitive silicone that can be fine tuned several times after the surgery, eventually giving the patient "HD vision" that's said to be better than 20/20. The lenses can apparently even be adjusted for either bifocal or varifocal use, eliminating the need for some patients to wear glasses at all. Head on past the break for a video.

when can we finally drop the word "HD" it has become equally as annoying as when everyone use the word "Digital" with everything back in the mid-90s
@(Unverified) But those HD sunglasses are GREAT!
720 or 1080p?
It has to cost more than $9k. http://assets.knowyourmeme.com/i/355/original/9000cat.jpg
This might just be what i need being that lasik isn't an option for me. But I'm guessing like most procedures this will be fairly expensive. I'll start saving up all my pennies ^_^
This isn't that new of a procedure, and I'm looking at getting it instead of Lasik because of the ability to simply take the lens out and replace it with a new one if your eyes change. With Lasik your burning down your cornea in order to reshape it correctly, and there's only so much to burn away. Check out http://www.visianinfo.com/ . Seems like most of my local Lasik centers do this as well, but I have quite a few pennies to save up myself.
Great! Now that sweet 1080p image will look pixelated...
Does the interface use Display Port or HDMI 1.4 version? And if the DRM link fails do people get downgraded to standard vision?
What's next? Blu-Ray vision?
That's fine and all but what about finding a way to replace the evil air-puff-on-your-exposed-eyeball machine?
isn't my vision already better than HD?
We have 130,000 cones per square MILLIMETER in our retina. That's pretty "HD" to me. With all improvements there tends to be a sacrifice, a continuum if you will, and a sweet spot. How do you create higher density of information without changing the field of vision?
please, can't you stop making stupid jokes about this HD thing? for those who really need lens implants this is truly amazing news (and most of you guys will need them too, when you get old enough)!
the lens implants used today are OK, and they do save people from blindness, but they can admittably be better. built-in bifocality, the ability to adjust lens strength *after* the operation and enhanced "HD vision" sounds like a Nobel prize winner to me!
F HD i want night vision and 3D eye lens
damn now i could just buy a regular tv...i already got the ''HD''..why spend the extra dough.
when will there be infrared and x-ray vision implants now that there's HD vision???
So does this mean were gonna see blu vision soon?
First!
HD is more overused that "i".
Picked up some Dunlop HD tennis balls that other day for my dog to play fetch with. He finds they are easier to catch cause they are more visible.
Does this include 120Hz?
