Huge stash of HTC Android codenames found within 2.1 ROM
You know that leaked HTC Sense ROM with Android 2.1 underneath? Well, somebody did some digging and found a wild stack of HTC Android handset codenames buried within. It starts in the realm of the familiar, with mentions of Dragon, Passion, Dream and Hero, but then it starts to get a little wild. Here's the full list: Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire and Supersonic. Pretty wild, right? There's no telling what exactly this list implies, other than the fact that Passion and Dragon are indeed on the books, and that HTC's naming department can really let the superlatives fly, but we're sure all will be made clear over the next year or two.

@iPhoneMessenger
Why do I have to un-hide you just to down rank you. Oh well. It still feels good
@iPhoneMessenger
Will it bring multitasking?
LOLNO!
@iPhoneMessenger
Great. Go stink up a thread about iPhones then.
@NinjaMonkey loser
@ChazClout No one will see this but, you have to be a bit more specific. "Will it bring 3rd party Multi tasking?" Because the iPhone can technically multitask. Just not with more than one 3rd party app.
i'd like the Dragon just for its name.
@deebo
SUPER DRAGON
Double Dragon
@deebo
Draggin' BallZ
My Mother in law is a fuckin' DRAGON.
@deebo
as long as its.....
wait for it....
OVER NINE THOUUUUSAAAAANNNDDDDD!!!!!
@deebo
I'd like the Incredible just for the name.
Huangshan? Not sure I see that one catching on, at least not in the states...
@John Stathakis
Huang means Yellow
Shan means mountain
it's the most beautiful mountain in china. I think it's probably a model for mainland china.
@htd
Brilliant deduction.
@htd I can tell you based on experience that Huangshan is not the most beautiful place...at least with all those tourists there. It's one of those rare times where I was glad to be back in Shanghai.
Does anyone have any idea as to why we are seeing the Dream on this list?
@JXCGunrunna
I think that it means that 2.1 actually will get into the Dream.
@JXCGunrunna
The Dream doesn't even do Sense, does it...
@DestrictoEnse No but it does do android. It sounds more like it was in the android core part than the sense overlay.
@JXCGunrunna It's just easier to leave things in a working build rather than take them out. Here's hoping they can get a build together for the G1, though.
Nokia/Microsoft/Palm better hold down the fort because if this is true then damn 2010 will be the year of Android. And gains for Android tend to be coming at the expense of the N/M/P group.
@(Unverified) Wasn't 2009 going to be the year of Android?
@jin and guice .. dunno, you ? Everybody who has half a brain would have realised it would take at least a year for the hardware manufacturers to familiarise themselves with Android. That year was 2009. The next year is all about growing the platform with lots of models. Especially with Nokia/Microsoft not set to release major updates until the end of 2010. Gives Android a free year !
This is the best way to hide codenames. Come up with 5 times the number you'll actually need. There's no way that anyone can track them all.
@(Unverified) I live in Seattle but sign me up for a Memphis.
I know the Eris was called the Desire, but is that the same as the DesireC?
@Patlex
I'm assuming the "C" is for CDMA...
@Patlex I was thinking the same after I saw the hero, desire, and passion with the C tag. I wonder what the CT is for. This looks good for the Verizon Passion.
@Patlex
The Sprint CDMA Hero reports its name as HeroC so I would expect that all the Cs are CDMA versions.
@Patlex
I don't know what DesireC is. Verizon even refers to Droid Eris as HTC Desire at http://phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/eris/
(Click on Full Specifications and then scroll down to In Box.)
@nelagster
the Eris is already a CDMA phone.....
...Verizon?
@CapnBry So its established that C would refer to CDMA, then what does the CT refer to in the HeroCT? World phone i.e CDMA and GSM? Also if C is for CDMA then should't the Passion also get a C after it?
@Patlex It does have C after it.
@soul3n Yeah, whats your point? Most of these aren't actually new phones. Theres only a handful in there that are. DesireC is the Eris.
I think HTC Halo would have had a nice ring to it. And think of the Halo the video game tie ins!
@(Unverified)
There would be no video game tie-ins. This is in Android 2.1, (i.e. Google). Microsoft owns the Halo video game franchise. Good luck getting that to play nice. If HTC calls a phone Halo, Microsoft will be pushing for it to run WinMo for tie-ins.
A, B , C , EHONDA, BLANKA, ZANGIEF.... RED, WHITE, BLUE.
@va jj
Those arn't your kids, those are letters of the alphabet, street fighter characters, and colors!

The HTC Liberty will come with no contract, no overages, no roaming, unlimited everything, and root access out of the box. Set to be released july 4th, 2010
@Edobe where did yu get this info from.?
@rlamontjr Sarcasm is lost on you, isn't it?
@Edobe Lol..
Will the liberty also have a promo song written by Toby Keith? Will Chuck Norris be the official spokesperson?
@Edobe And it will only be available in Europe.
@Rick James
And it'll come with a free rubber case that looks like a hand-grenade.
