You know that
leaked HTC Sense ROM with Android 2.1 underneath? Well, somebody did some digging and found a wild stack of HTC Android handset codenames buried within. It starts in the realm of the familiar, with mentions of
Dragon,
Passion,
Dream and
Hero, but then it starts to get a little wild. Here's the full list: Bahamas, Bravo, DesireC, Dragon, Dream, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Hero, Huangshan, Incredible, Legend, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Passion, Sapphire and Supersonic. Pretty wild, right? There's no telling what exactly this list implies, other than the fact that Passion and Dragon are indeed on the books, and that HTC's naming department can really let the superlatives fly, but we're sure all will be made clear over the next year or two.
@iroq d mullet
Thanks, I will. Wake me when there's something interesting going on, like a real product.
Now, how many of those are the same exact model? This is the thing with HTC, they're confusing the market with all these names despite a lot of them pretty much the same thing/carry the exact same spec. And then you don't know which model is newer unless you're checking tech blog sites.
@pika2000
Wouldn't that be a good thing? Say you have 4 models but 3 for each carrier and give them all different names, not only do stores can track them better but it also makes them look like they have 12 phones out on the market. I find making less seem more is probably a good thing, especially for people who don't follow things as we do.
@pika2000
I doubt that the general public will really care. It's only us interested in technology that will really look for a difference in the specifications of these phones.
I do hope that HTC do some internal upgrades rather than whacking the guts of the Hero into even more handsets. (I still love my Hero tho)
@pika2000 But that doesn't matter. All these names are working names, and when name changes occur, like the Magic/myTouch, it's the carrier's orders. I see no problem.
@pika2000 Yeeeeah, like that never happens with iPhone versioning, when they all look the same *eyeroll*
Stop playing dumb please. If you want to troll just do it direct, if you actually want to participate in a conversation read up the facts or STFU.
@Mikeo Oh, hi dumb fucker. Troll somewhere else. Nobody is talking about the iPhone here.
What, no Passion P?
My BB Storm is telling me I need some sweet sweet passion in my life.
These are HTC's code names...not the carrier's. So to HTC, the G1 is still the Dream. The Mytouch/Magic is called Sapphire by HTC.
Carriers can finally use the "Passion" android with their new "our phone vibrates better than yours" add...?
Burninating the country side. Burninating the iphones.
@NinjaMonkey
and all the people in the thatch-roofed cottages?
Hehe.. That was me ;-)
It was embedded into the framework.. No idea why HTC integrated it into it *WTF*
@maxisma
Max You rock!
i know win6.5 aint the best but every OS has its pros/cons. im just about to get the HD2, is it worth waiting for passion/dragon?? as constantly waiting for the next "big thing" will mean you will never get anything new lol not sure if i can wait till after February!
views please :)
@Gooner14 You do have a point about how always waiting for the next big thing will mean you'll never buy anything.
I agree that the HD2 is a beautiful thing, but that OS is a piece of turd. unless you're a employee that needs WinMo, you gotta hold out for Android version.
It may mean waiting till Feb, but hopefully some more picture leak and that will keep you going till then :)
@emnetic Im at uni so i dont need WinMo for business i guess! im looking at the long term commitment to the phone i choose, so the HD2 its amazing the now (iv read and seen alot on it and tested it myself in the shops) and with winmo 7? might just be truly awesome!
BUT i think ill wait and see what happens this month, with the sholes tablet and new android phones like SEx10 and htc dragon/passion ill see if they are worth the hype! :)
I love HTC model naming schemes. Too bad carriers downgrade to names that sound gay sometimes
Please, Please, Please, HTC... I want to see John Davidson, Fran Tarkenton, and Cathy-Lee Crosby at the unveiling of the That's Incredible phone.
2.1 not 2.0? Is everyone getting a bump to 2.1 then?
There we go:
desireC is Droid Eris
Halo is Tattoo (budget Android)
passion is dragon
nicest though is Espresso. I read somewhere at tweakers.net that Espresso is a Hero with qwerty keyboard. Complete with profile and all.
C = CDMA?
@(Unverified) yea, exactly what i thought when i read it, I bet the PassionC is the Passion (Dragon-variant) that's coming to Verizon.
Hopefully this means official 2.1 for magic. 32a? probably not so much. At least there's still xda
I love how engadget has bleeped out the source of that image.
I just want the HTC HD2 running android. Do that for 2010 PLEASE HTC and I'll be happy. Oh by the way I have Sprint so if you can give it to them that'll be great. Lol..
Whats with the messed up pixelation on this image? I mean it kinda looks like they are bluring out something, but its all vertical and not placed ina very good-for-displaying-info manner.
@krizoitz
it's to cover the watermarks as the photo or screen has been watermarked by HTC to track the mole...
As far as I got from http://www.htcphones.net/htc-passion-android-version-of-htc-whitestone/, the passion will be similiar to whitestone
hm.... HeroCT, HeroC and Hero?
What will be the difference?
@qrius Hero is eouropean Hero, and HeroC and HeroCT are sprint hero and droid eris. I think.
i love the name "supersonic" the most. "i've got a supersonic phone!"
@dr34mc4st3r
As soon as I read the name Supersonic the crunk rock song of the same name by Family Force 5, started playing in my mind. Then I wanted it.
Bahamas is most certainly the HTC Tattoo.
its nice to know that the phone i bought a few weeks ago will be obsolete by the standers of 6 years in one swoop.
i mean Christ... I was frozen today!
Ok, here is my dream device. A droid Eris with A snapdragon would be like the best thing in the world.
@tech head
a tegra2 would B even better
@xconan yeah, but there aren't a whole lot of apps in the android marketplace that would take advantage of tegra. Maby once the phone came out, devs would start developing for it, but then android would be very fragmented because only certain apps can run on certain phones, unless i can run a game designed for tegra on my arm 11 g1. :)
"Is that a legend in your pants or are you just happy to see me?"
