Why would you want something as cumbersome as that on your kitchen worktop?
@SamUK Also I don't do a lot of printing while cooking, so I will pass...
@SamUK
Because cumbersome is the future!
@SamUK
Let alone the fact that you need the photo so badly you have to print it out in your kitchen. This is lame.
Man, that's a crappy photochop.
@barry99705
It looks like they just plopped it on the table in photoshop, without trying whatsoever.
@barry99705
Shadows? What are they?
@yankees368 Give them a little credit. It must have been really hard to get pictures of all that kitchen equipment and photoshop them together behind the printer to make it look like a real kitchen.
@barry99705
I'm pretty sure the credit for the photoslop goes to engadget!
@barry99705
I they took the picture of the product, there is no excuse for them to not get an accurate angle of it.
But can it run Crysis?
@Ted2
Can it run Eggo?
Isn't the point of a digital photoframe that you don't need to have a printout? Do people still print their photos?
@ChrisChampion And this is really bulky. A picture frame is nice because its small and doesn't take up much space. Not with this sucker.
@ChrisChampion - Actually, no, they don't, but the printer industry is so desperate to sell ink and paper (it's the only thing that makes money) that they continue to push what the public has no interest in. I guess photo printer ads are kind of like spam. The hit rate must be tiny, but the profits are huge.
@appsman I remember seeing the HP printer that's connected to the Internet and thinking... why not just view the map on your phone. I know... not everyone has a smartphone. But drop some coin on that printer and you could have paid for a data plan, right?
So stupid.
Yeah, they goofed on this one. I'd say they have conclusively proved that printers and digital picture frames do not go together.
I believe they meant the following:
"Epson unleashes PictureMate Show printer that also has a photo frame attached on top of it."
Yeah...that sounds more correct.
Epson, Lame.
For a little more than that price (~$300) you can get a netbook, an all-in-one HP (photo) printer/scanner/copier and a digital photo frame. This PictureMate is way overpriced. For $80? maybe, but $300?!
From Newegg:
- Netbook ($240): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152135R
- All-in-one printer ($60): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828115509
- Digital photo frame ($30): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882237003
Picture frames and printers go together like Chines food and chocolate pudding. Let's face it.
How about "Epson unleashed the PictureMate Show, which has a large monitor so you can see the evil red-eye on every single photo and fix it before you print it".
Large monitor on photo printer to help fix prints before printing = genius.
The person who made up this add must be a bachelor; no way most people could get away with using this as a "picture frame", especially in the kitchen.
Photo Frame (Screen) + Printer = Digital Photo Kiosk. Cool, now I can fit one on my kitchen counter.
So because Engadget throws this in a picture they ripped off from Pottery Barn, everyone ASSUMES that Epson thinks this belongs in the kitchen! Good to know people can still think for themselves... not!
I actually think this would be very popular for people outside of us bleeding edge geeks (i.e. normal peeps). Used to have one of those HiFi printers out in the living room. It got tons of use! But yeah, this still is priced too high.
You people who got Photoshop degrees back in the 90s should be proud, you still have jobs, like this one!
On a slightly related note, sorry people with cameras and a sense of reality, you're still unwanted! Go back to taking pictures of fruit. Your talent for making fruit look like it's in a bowl by taking pictures of the fruit while it's in the bowl is simply not needed. We can do this by taking pictures of fruit in India and a picture of a bowl in Mexico.
Conceptually, I think it's a neat idea.....their execution sucks. I think it would be cool to have a photo frame - not much wider than normal photo frames - that you could feed a single sheet through and print a photo. Perhaps you could do that by doubling the thickness of the frame (as an example). Doing so wouldn't necessarily increase the overall footprint as this product seems to.
Others might look at your photo frame and say, "Hey, that's a cool pic....I'd like a copy of it." The ability to print a single sheet right there would be nice, but not with such a bulky footprint.
I have an even better idea.
Pull them apart. Mebbe have a special transfer protocol (or not). Leave the photo frame hanging on the wall and have the printer be.... wherever. Then you hit print on the photo frame and it just spits out of some strange location like Back to the Future II.
"Photo frame talks to printer all by itself" is not a bad idea really. Someone's probably already doing that too.
